It’s a fun program, you just don’t have to think that it’s real.
I’m glad some people have realised this guy if fake.. I’ve known pretty much since the first time I saw the guy.
Not everyone will agree though… some people just have bad judgement of character and take what they see at face value as real.
In my opinion, the reason of the show is to teach people how to survive in the wild, and it do that job. It’s plenty obvious he should make some tricks for filming the show.
Try Survivor Man if you are interested in see a man surviving in wild.

Probably a very young, unsophisticated school drop-out/leaver who’s been eager to join the army all his life in order to make a “man of himself” or uphold their parents/family’s army traditions.
Very sad.
This show is great. And Bear Grylls does more dangerous acts than Les Stroud or any of you for that matter (incl myself) so stop complaining about him and if you don’t like the show then stfu . Thank you rlslog.
Love this show. to the people who don’t like it, no one ever said it was a documentary its just an interesting show to watch i would prefer to watch an interesting show with good camera work than some Canadian with a hand held camera so get over your self you wanker Steven.
Survivorman actually goes out by himself with whatever he can carry, and films himself with his own cameras. Hardcore. There’s a support team some distance off, but they don’t allow any contact between them unless an emergency is life-threatening.

That makes Bear a stuntman, then. I’ve watched both shows and Bear’s is obviously filmed like a normal show, with a professional crew around him at all times (not that he overtly denies this).
On Les’s show, if he F’s up with the cameras and misses a shot (or they start failing), he admits it and just describes it the best he can. And usually he ends up starving because in most places getting food by yourself is damn hard.
If this was the Food Network, Bear would be Rachel Ray…he’s just a personality (and he is quite watchable). But there’s no drama in the show. When Les loses a fish, he’s going hungry that night, for real.

Why noone writes about Ray Mears. He has best survival shows where he really teaches about nature, survival, expiriences of others, camping, makes birchbark canoe…

Bear Grylls is a puke. I watch the show at times, but his show is mostly about performing stupid stunts for no particular reason like climbing up rock faces and eating live animals instead of cooking them so that people get their jollies off of it. Survivorman is a far, far better show for obvious reasons.

People can continue to flame Bear Grylls for not being “authentic” enough, but would it make THAT much of a difference to your viewing pleasures? Is this not for the purpose of entertainment and the passing of information through a form of media?
I knew from the start that not all of his shots or whatever could be authentic one time moments. Like, it’s obvious when you see shots of him from the sky or shots of him underwater etc. A camera person needs to be there and I’m sure when he’s in actual danger, his crew WILL lend him a hand.
But the point of this program isn’t for Bear Grylls to prove how much of a man he is, but to inform and educate us, the viewers, what to do if you were presented with the worst case scenarios. Therefore, he ISN’T performing unnecessary and stupid stunts. I am in the army and some of the stuff he has demonstrated are actual survival skills used when we are faced with the worst case. So I don’t doubt most of the legitimacy.
It’s still TV and every TV program will add their own bit of magic to make us go WOW. So be a little open minded but at the same time, don’t be so naive by taking everything you see on tv for its face value.

this show cracks me up how everything is “prepared” , he wouldn’t survive 15 minutes in the outdoor sports section of Kmart..
His show is not educational at all… He takes too many risks which is not at all something that is good in survival situation. If you break a limb by climbing somewhere you don`t need, get food poisoning because you didn`t cook your food or swam in frozen waters… Those are things that would kill you and him in real situations.
Watch Ray Mears and read books if you really want to learn something!
Watch Les Stroud if you want to see how it applies in real life situations and the costs of your errors.
Watch Bear Grylls if you really don`t have anything better to do, but please, please don`t ever try to apply what he does in real life situation, you will die.
I just saw Bear parachute into a frozen landscape, slaughter a deer with nothing more than a pocket-knife, explore miles into a frozen cave looking for bugs to eat, ride down a massive snowy cliff on top of a mountain deer, break though a frozen lake and swim underneith the ice for 3 minutes to find an opening.

Bear is a survivor show for those of us who are athletic, the type of person who is an extreme hiker/explorer and may likely find themselves in this kind of situation. Only the athletic can do what he does. Find civilization, get out yourself, not lay around waiting for a helicopter. I seriously doubt you’ll get lost on your couch as you watch Ray Mears.

Why would anyone expect someone to actually risk their lives for a TV show? The show would not be made without strict health and safety. It seems to be the same people who scream fake at a magic show as if everyone didn’t already know that. I have to agree that the latest series seems to consist of crappy ‘fear factor’ style eating disgusting stuff.
Anyone remember “How not to die” aka “Hunting Chris Ryan” where the ex SAS guy was pursued by other Special Forces and had to evade capture. That looked pretty real as far as the injuries and complete exhaustion on the guys face.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a ’survival’ show where you are taught how to react if real life goes tits up, say you found yourself in a Coup while on vacation in Africa and needed to evade capture.
I think its neat that something can look very real but be fake. I think its iportant to analyze shows like these in order to teach yourself a little something about what “real” is.
Plus it’s more entertaining than say American Idol.
I think some of you screaming fake are missing the whole purpose of the show. It’s to show you how to possibly survive/escape if you ever get lost or stranded in those places. The guy has mentioned on several occasions that he has a camera crew with him, and that they sometimes help him out with stuff so he can demonstrate certain things. Some of the things he does to show ppl is really dangerous, like diving into an icy pond/lake. His show’s all about making it out, while survivorman is about staying alive until you get rescued.
I don’t think anybody really expects him to do all those things without a safety team in place in case he gets really f’d up.
