Man vs Wild S04E03 WS DSRip XviD-aAF

aAF are here to bring us another Man vs Wild episode, as usual, but one thing I don’t get about them is why they still bother to release the DSRip as the quality is shit. Group GNARLY started releasing the HDTV rips of Man vs Wild with the start of the 4th season, and those are neither overcropped or feel like the camera is out of focus so I suggest waiting for that ;)

Bear takes on a week of challenges in an area around the Pacific Ring of Fire and the 2004 Tsunami. He must survive a week of challenges after being dropped into the Indian Ocean and then onto a deserted island with no running water.

    Yes. Okay. Probably a nooby question. But what is a DSRip? I’m unfamiliar with the term.

    TVRip: Recorded from analog TV, lowest quality of all TV rips

    DSRip: Recorded from Digital Satellite, good quality rip

    PDTV: Recorded from Pure Digital Source, but not HDTV. The quality is similar to a DSRip

    HDTV: Acceptable quality. Recorded from an HDTV source. Good video and sound quality. The video resolution is often 624×352, and the audio stream 128kb/s MP3. A 45 minute show is usually 350MB.

    HR.HDTV: Very good quality. Recorded from an HDTV source. The video resolution is often around 960×540 which is half the size of the original HDTV broadcast. A 45 minute show is usually 700MB.

    720p HDTV: The highest quality possible. Recorded straight from an HDTV source at 1280×720 resolution. A 45 minute show is usually 1400MB. XBMC will not be able to play this due to it’s limited processing power and RAM, however, a higher powered HTPC or home computer should be able to display these higher resolution videos.

    Why would a DSRip look any worse than a HDTVRip? They’re both highly compressed to get down to 350MB.

  15. Flippo
    May 17th, 2008 | 17:55

    @15 & @13

    The show was never intented to be similar to Les Stroud’s one, it was meant to show YOU how to DO things if you ever find yourself in such a situation. If people actually took the time to do some digging about what Bear has actually acomplished in his life, his records, his attempts and his role amongst the sas, people would realize that he is more then capable to do the things he shows on tv.

  16. May 17th, 2008 | 18:04

    @16

    I agree. Les just waits there for people to come and rescue him and he just shows you the basic survival skills, he never goes out of the ordinary like eating grub or anything like that. Bear is more the “I have to get out now” type of person, and cmon, he was in the special forces.

  17. May 17th, 2008 | 18:06

    @6

    Not at all… DSRip isnt alike PDTV, and saying that HDTV is acceptable quality means youre an idiot.

  18. MelC
    May 17th, 2008 | 18:08

    DSRip looks absolutely nothing like a PDTV release.

    a DSR is done via analogue cables (RGB SCART for euro countries, if it’s an american release it is even worse with Svideo or even composite cables used). As you can imagine, an analogue capture (the source maybe digital but DSR’s are still analogue) is never going to look good and they are generally soft and “smeary”, looking like someone has covered the TV in vaseline.

    It’s a bit lame to release a DSR of a show if it’s on a channel where it can be ripped PD.

    May 17th, 2008 | 18:10

    BustaLinx just copy/pasted that from elsewhere.

    HDTV IS acceptable, it’s still SD even if it is from an HD source. HR.HDTV is far more preferable for anyone with a TV larger than even 28″.

    your all idiots :p

    dsr is not done with analogue cables, thats just the hilarious n00b comment of the year. that would be analogue doofus. and yes dsr and pdtv are similar. pdtv is usually upconverted for a hdtv channel or non native resolution. thats why a lot of american shows on uk and canada channels get capped in pdtv but end up looking worse than dsr. the only time pdtv trumps dsr is when its a show made for the channel it airs on, ie dr.who. cmon rlslog stop adding these idiots i miss when it was just mr.x. you lose cred everytime this guy posts esp when he talks about 2cds rips always bein better than 1 with no knowledge of how xvid works :p

  21. May 17th, 2008 | 18:40

    @21

    lol, its hilarious how people with no knowledge post here thinking they know all that. you dont need knowledge of xvid (which you dont have) to know that a 2CD rls will always be better than 1cd, so stop trying to sound smart. pdtv always trumps dsr as I watch man vs wild on pdtv, and it looks a lot better than this dsr crap.

    Bear is NOT a fake.

    I just saw Bear dive into filthy Parana filled swamp water, catch a viscous man-eating 5ft Komodo Dragon, grab it by the tail, swing it over his head, then smash it’s head against a stump. Then he cut off half its head and carried its 90lb limb body over his shoulder for 10miles.

    That’s some caveman shiit.

    Survivor Man would shiit himself and eat it before he ever did anything like that.

    -nuff said

    May 17th, 2008 | 20:15

    @20, Course I did. No way was I going to write all that out myself.

    But, Marceli (@18), I’ll still stand by the fact that what I copy/pasted is true: a HDTV copy is ‘Acceptable Quality’ for most people, and perfectly watchable on a 15″ laptop screen, or even a 42″ plasma at 12′. Just because we do not all conform to your opinions, doesn’t make us idiots.

    ;)

    Are you sure he killed a Komodo Dragon? Those are endangered species…

    Or wasnt it real? Like the rest of the show…

    May 17th, 2008 | 21:23

    I agree with Flippo and RLSLogKing, from the beginning Bear never pretended to be out in the wild by himself, he’s always acknowledged the presence of a crew being there and has said the show is meant to teach you how to get out of a dangerous situation if it should arise. You’d have to be pretty stupid to think he’s out there by himself when he’s clearly talking to a camera crew.

    As for the haters, I’d like to see how long some of you last when put in the situations he gets himself in. Chances are none of you would be alive right now to call him a fake, so stfu.

    I don’t care if Bear has assistant, the show is entertaining. You can also learn things, general culture.

    May 17th, 2008 | 22:24

    Like him or hate him, you still have to respect the man. He’s going through these extreme conditions for your entertainment. Even if he would get air-lifted out if he needed it and they could help him, he’s risking plenty. It’s not as though they have an air cushion underneath the cliffs he scales and he’s not wearing a harness. And if a 12′ croc takes him down there’s not much his crew can do to help either. At the end of the day he does what he loves and gets paid for it. Not to mention that he gets to see and experience more of the world than most people ever will. It’s easy to criticize someone else’s life from the safety and comfort of your own home.

    Bear is very entertaining. He also subtly puts out some great survival advice when in very awkward situations. Last night made me laugh so hard my stomach still hurts. Beating a Komodo Dragon against a tree is hillarity. IF anyone has ever held or confronted one in person they know how frightening in real life they really are. I about died when he said,”first lets dispose of this.”

    May 18th, 2008 | 00:06

    Well first off Iam a big fan of Bear. That lizard wasnt 90 pounds it was like 25 at best.

    Also some of his stunts are faked… For example if you watch near the end of the show before he climbs down that rock face. He climbs to the top of that mountain then falls.. and grabs and branch before almost falling to his death. If you look closely there is a dark coloured rope around his body. I knew that was faked right away from watching it.

    Still he does amazing stunts and is very entertaining to watch.

    This show supposed to be entertaining not educational and thath`s the only reason i`m watching this. If you want to look for evidences that show is fake check bearwiki at http://www.daughtersoftiresias.org/bearwiki/Main_Page or youtube ;) Just don`t try climbing waterfall, that`s just retarted in emergency situation.
