Man killed by cell phone explosion in China

It’s being reported that a man has died after putting a new battery in his phone. After the initial charging, he put the phone in his pocket and shortly thereafter it exploded, killing him. This is the ninth such explosion reported since 2002. The Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News reports the accident occurred on January 30 at 7:30pm local time at what may have been a Lenovo shop. A nearby employee heard a loud bang, looked over and saw her co-worker lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

While the make and model of cell phone is not yet known or not being reported, police are currently investigating whether or not the phone and/or battery were counterfeit. Authorities have issued warning tips that cell phones and batteries should not be tampered with or replaced with counterfeit parts. In 2007, a 22-yr old welder died from chest wounds when his mobile phone exploded while working at an iron mill. Authorities concluded in that case that the battery had been exposed to sparks and high heat in the iron mill.

Theres no way in hell a little cell phone could pack a big enough punch to kill somebody. Maybe knock a piece of flesh off but not kill him. Theres got to be more to this story.

    don't say stupid storyes…
It's true that a cell phone can explode, and in certain case can kill one person…
Those Cell Phones are manufactured usually by chinese, and are the copyies of official model of Nokia, Samsung, Iphone etc…

They do copy, bad copy, economic copy… explosive copy.
So, don't buy copy, don't buy ever copy of originals trademark (also for example t-shirt etc.. copyies of nike for ex. the cotton contain traces of toxic materials…)

!!! SO BEWARE CHINA COPYES PRODUCT !!!

What all of you fukers are unaware of is that 99% of the ORIGINAL phones, yes including the Nokias & iPhones, as well as their ORIGINAL batteries also are actually manufactured, assembled & packaged in Asian factories (sweat shops) these days because of cheap labor.

From a Chinese journalist. He said the cop find the trace of bullets at the ceiling, but they are still trying to figure out how can a sales man has a gun.

a battery killed a hunman? I'm not stupid. If that true, the world is full of powerful bombs.

  41. rawfan
    February 7th, 2009 | 01:32

Lithium-Ion batteries ARE in fact like bombs. They only become safe if VERY carefully manufactured. Thus buying cheap Li-Ion batteries is like playing russian roulette. You never know if the next one kills you. My roomie is a chemist currently working on improving Li-Ion batteries and he told me there's very vew companies in the world skilled enough to build safe ones.

Interesting post. Batteries can be totally reliable or unreliable. Its a matter of getting the correct brand. Especially for <a ="http://www.ardenmktg.com"> aa lithum battery</a>, important to get long lasting ones.
