While being Madvillainy 2, this isn’t the official followup to 2004’s underground smash hit Madvillainy, but rather a new mixing of the original album by Madlib, who is one of the two members of Madvillain.  Released on one of the eminent underground hip hop labels, Stones Throw, this is a necessary release for anyone who likes Madlib, MF Doom, the original Madvillain album, or intellectual hip hop in general.

Madvillain is a hip hop group consisting of MF DOOM (MC/producer) and Madlib (MC/producer). Their debut album Madvillainy was met with wide critical acclaim for its unique approach—short songs, obscure lyrics, few choruses and a sound which was generally unfriendly to commercial radio.

    If you wanna hate without checking it out you shouldn’t be here. Madlib and Doom are smokin’ and if there is never a proper second Madvillain album then at least this is a fitting supplement. On top of a complete remix of the album, this also features a few tracks that weren’t on the original version. Definitely check this out and, if you dig it, go to Stones Throw’s site and pay to download it. There will be a physical release of this too as part of a box set features LOTS of cool Madvillain stuff, including a rare mix or One Beer and a cassette (yes, a cassette tape) featuring the leaked demo version of the Madvillain sessions that showed up about a year before the album’s release.

    madvillany was the best hiphop or otherwise album to come out in many many years. a lot of people couldn’t feel it because it’s a lil more for the discerning listener of hiphop and not rap.

    I can’t stand rap and am metal all the way.The only reason I am posting this comment is because I am upset at some of the comments here and on the Iced Earth post the other day. If you don’t like it why do you waste your time talking sh*t. I think rap sucks but am glad that you like it and that it gets posted here.     I agree with post 65, dangerdoom is one of the greatest underground albums ever made , ever since then anything i find with mfdoom on it ive got to give a lsiten, for example theres a mf doom album with ghostface killah which im sure is going to be straight fire, get off the mainstream and come to the underground!!!!!!!!!

    For those who liked Madvillain there is also a remix from Four Tet&Koushik around if you like elektronika as well. I’m curious what Madlib made of this, also looking forward to MF Doom vs. Ghostface if that ever will come out they announced it years ago.
