    @6
Real mac or fake mac, all the same thing really.
Only thing that separates a real from fake is simply the real one has a TPM chip and the fake one doesn’t. I rather not pay 25% premium on a computer when i can save that extra 25% cost in upgrading to better hardware.

LOL Its amusing when i read about real macs, those things ceased to exist when Apple decided to discontinue its PPC Range Processors and decided to go with Intel. Now their hardware is almost identical to PCs.

    Mac is short for Macintosh.

  16. lolol
    December 16th, 2008 | 12:09

MAC stands for Media Access Control. Mac (uncapitalized) is the common nickname for the Macintosh brand of computers made by Apple, Inc.

    December 16th, 2008 | 12:10

MAC is the physical adress of your network card and stands for Media Access Control. Mac, however, stands for Macintosh as toodau says.

MAC and Mac is NOT the same thing.

Why install Mac OS if you have a stable and working system that can run three tons more of software, play games and doesn’t require any hacks and is just fine ?

  38. Big James Duggit
    December 16th, 2008 | 16:08

Eh, Mac is OK, but either way this is still much better than the malware known as Vi$ta. The only thing Vi$ta does is damage your computer and run bloated code that slows down even the newest rigs. Anyone who uses it still has mental deficiencies, when you can install ubuntu for free and have everthing run twice as fast.

  39. Sander
    December 16th, 2008 | 16:11

Could this version work on a PPC g5? I tried to install the version I had (that came with an intel core 2 duo imac) and it didn’t take. Any suggestions? An other thing, can i burn this to 2 dvds or is it to big and do i need to configure a usb boot device?
    Tnx lots

  40. Andrew
    December 16th, 2008 | 16:33

    @ 39,

It didn’t work because the discs that came with your iMac are supposed to work for only that computer (even if there is no serial no. required). You would need a retail, standalone or non-serialized Leopard disc to install to any Mac you might have. This one should allow you to install to your G5 PPC

Just depends what you want to do with your computer. Are you into art? get a mac. Are you into everything else? get a pc.

  51. mdma
    December 16th, 2008 | 19:13

48: Vister got better UI responses for quadcores while Linix runs updated version of kernel which is awesome. So this is a matter of taste. This one is nothing more than a fancy bot screen with half eaten apple which makes you feel like half a person.

50: What advantage Mac has over PC when it comes to art ?

I’m a designer/visual artist/electronic pre-press and there’s nothing like a mac to get those jobs done. My old company switched over to PCs to save money and they’ve had problems ever since. I left, now I have a new G5 and all the latest apps. at my new job.

OSX is just better at art, it’s a known fact.

  55. mdma
    December 16th, 2008 | 20:54

Can you list at least one constructive proof that Mac better for an art creation than PC ?

  56. theartdude
    December 16th, 2008 | 21:14

Well, I’m a full-time rich-media designer, and do a lot of flash animation and streaming video conversion at work. I have both a MBP and a pc workstation, I can tell you, over 95% of the time, I’m using a PC. because it gets stuff done. But when I’m in a meeting with clients, doing a comp preso, or demostration, I have to bust out the MBP, and you know what, that MBP make me look good, and I do it to put up a good show on the surface, to let clients know that we are loaded with expensive machines because we get a lot of business. Honestly, there’s a stereotype that all good designers should have a Mac computer. That hasn’t gone away at this point. “I have a Mac, there fore i’m a good designer” Same BS goes for “I have photoshop, there fore i’m a good at photo editing”

  57. Pings
    December 16th, 2008 | 22:04

What 10.5.6 is the newest. Photoshop CS4 is out, and Mac is longer the king of Photoshop. The more you Mac geeks talk cr@p. About how Mac OSX is the safest, and how you dont need an antivirus (STUPID!). The more guys say that, the more people like me are going to. Hack it, crack it, and make viruses for Macs.

Did you there was a contests to hack OSs. The Mac OSX was cracked the fastest. Under 2 minutes. Then Apple released some security update for the OS. Then PWN 2 OWN 08 contest came about and The Mac OSX (MacBook Air) was the 1st to be cracked again under two minutes. At PWN 2 OWN 08 can you guess what browser was the unsafest and the 1st to be cracked. If you guessed IE your dead wrong its was Safari. Can you guess what OS was the safest and the last to be cracked? Its was not OSX or Ubuntu. Its was Vista.

SO lets get this right. Mac OSX has next to no compatibility, and is the unsafest OS. Its just lost Photoshop benchmark top spot to a PC. Its has errors like any other OS (blue, black, gray screen). Opps I meant more errors.

This is not a Mac commercial I’m not comparing. Current Macs to weak one of Vista. The newest version of Mac vs The newest version Vista. Vista is safer and more stable.

All you media designers I got a back door into your Macs and Im going to steal all you hard work and post it on a warez site.

“We’re not liars but only stupid people would believe us.

  59. Ron
    December 16th, 2008 | 22:33

Not news. Exploits can happen, but if you have your Mac locked down with the built-in security, this sort of thing won’t happen unless you AUTHORIZE it, with your admin password.

The rules said the computers were set to ’similar security settings’ which makes me think they disabled the OS X firewall, so as to match the default state of Windows XP. Either that, or they disabled the requirement to enter admin password to make system changes.

The point is that in it’s native state, even if someone “takes over” your Mac, they can’t DO anything unless they have admin access or they know your password. Anything they attempt will be met with a request for admin’s password.

Computer Virus: A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer WITHOUT PERMISSION OR KNOWLEDGE of the user.
Thats way there is 1 mac virus in the last ten years, other so called virus fail to comply with the above definition.

“SO lets get this right. Mac OSX has next to no compatibility, and is the unsafest OS.”
Dude, you are full of hate and lies. OSX runs linux, windows, and mac apps like a champ.

i record all my music on a PC….a friend does it on the Mac…no difference in sound quality. Difference is, he’s a noob when it comes to operating a computer so Mac is better for his lazy ignorant arty farty ass….paying 60% more than me, LOL.

While I know how to run a computer properly, clean, fast and stable, so I have a PC, it aint rocket science.

Anyone who says ‘art; is better on a Mac is just ignorant and a Mac fangirl. That’s like saying, good guitar solos can only be played on a stratocaster, not a les paul or ibanez or any other brand guitar.

Of the 3 Ubuntu Linux, Vista and OSX, Ubuntu is the one innovating. If you install Ubuntu Studio, you will not want for another OS flavor.

If you want the look of OSX, just install DreamLinux, it looks really sweet under the XFCE desktop environment.

I think I’ll try that OSX on a windows PC thing for fun. Just so I can see how many games won’t run in OSX that do in windows and Linux. Then go and post my findings in some mac forum somewhere.

Me, I’m quit new to mac. I used to have a win xp laptop with which I did nearly everything, from recording show’s (I’m a musician) to gaming and nearly everything you can imagine. Now i bought a Mac mini (great price, thank you eBay) and started to check out what this thing can do. My experience up to now is that everything works smoothly, always and if it should happen to jam (i tried my best to make it hang up) the reboot still takes under a minute. I read the argument above that “experienced” pc users are better off with win, and mac is for noobs. Clearly if you’ve never used a pc, mca is much more intuitive (and if you can’t find something, just click the apple), but I wouldn’t say experienced users would be bored by the OS. I remember all the time that it took to set up a half decent network (over ftp, since win xps shared folders system almost never worked) and when i logged in the first time on my WLAN, i could immediatly see all macs connected to the network. This was, for me, an epiphany. If all the time i took in my entire life trying to make something work on windows and spent it on time getting to now mac, I would know that machine inside out, literally.
Plus, I know it’s expensive but if you buy most of year gear on eBay you can save lots, if you use a lot of apple products like the ipod and iphone or apple tv and their router/server thingy everything works fluently.
In conclusion, I’d say that though mac is expensive (I’m kinda a design freak aswel, but that’s my taste) noobs and experienced users can benefit from it’s streamlined OS.
PS: can’t extract the above file, someone any tips?

Errr… That’s a second posting on the corrupt files, so I guess this is not worth the download. Hate these crappy corrupt files and bad quality films. (Which begs the question ‘What am I doing here?’) In fact, what am I doing here??? This is pants!

Totally Agree! Years ago, like in the early/mid 90’s, Mac was king when it came to graphics applications & music. This is no longer true! You can run the same Adobe applications just as well on a PC as a Mac and you can even do Pro Tools and 100’s of other Audio applications on a PC just as well if not better and cheaper! I always laugh when I walk into a Starbucks and see all these people sitting around proudly working away on their Mac notebooks. It’s like a trendy thing to do or something. And all they are doing is browsing the internet on their glorified, overpriced internet browser/jumbo iPod. Anyone can do that with a $300 PC laptop!

Do not download the files hosted on rs.com hosted by "Hole Pie" – CORRUPT!

The RS files are largely corrupt… especially most of the 30s. Waste of a download.

The torrent posted at 70 is legit, though, and reasonably fast.
