I think the CD format is still a good way to standardize file sizes. It allows easy identification of a particular show length (whether its 1cd/2cd/3cd/etc).

OK so if you want a single 1.4gb file…then what about 3cd or 4cd lengthy shows? You’d want 2.1gb..or 2.8gb single file rips.
The 700mb CD format allows you to easily fit exactly 6cds into 1 single-layer dvdr.

Complain how you want regarding the ancient use of cd file sizes but it is all about standardization.
Which is why even tvshows follow this format.
(4x 175mb = 1CD, 3x 233mb = 1CD, 2x 350mb = 1CD)

yes finally people are getting sick of the whole spilt to 2 700 meg files… i understand that 2-3 years ago most people didnt have dvd burners but now?? … they should just leave it as a 1 . whatever file and those who still use cds can split it while those of us in the 21st centry have the single file everyone wins…
