The problem with USA is that they (the government and part of the population) try to boss everyone around. It’s as simple as that. They should learn to mind their own business. It includes America’s smaller-scale but long and vicious war on Cuba. The US was embarrassed by failure time and again, shamefully resorted to the terror tactics it now claims to despise, and wasted immense resources supporting thousands of hangers-on. Fidel Castro outlived two generations of American presidents and over six hundred assassination plots.
The record of failures includes the American military’s confusing its humanitarian-assistance role in Somalia with Gary Cooper facing down the bad guys in High Noon, an error which gave it an ugly surprise and saw America turn and go home.
The record includes Reagan’s poorly-considered landing of Marines in Lebanon. A base blown up by resisting guerrilla forces, the Marines left with a battleship hurling sixteen-inch shells into the hills, killing who knows how many innocent civilians and having achieved nothing.
Of course, in battles or war generally, victory is not always easy to determine. There were many battles in history where victory was claimed or loss assumed in error.
Higher casualties don’t always mean losing a battle or even a war. The sacrifice of great numbers sometimes improves a strategic or tactical position, as General Grant in America’s Civil War well understood. Vietnam’s General Giap understood this also, for despite a horrific slaughter of his people, America suffered defeat.
It was an early sign of the coming defeat when body counts began to dominate American news. It is easy to kill large numbers of people, especially when you have complete air superiority and high-tech weapons, but constant killing may mean little progress against a serious opponent. Often, as in the Blitz, bombing people is completely counter-productive.
In recent weeks, body counts re-appeared in Afghanistan, much the same way opium poppies re-appeared after America’s claim to victory over the Taleban (who had suppressed opium). The bodies are supposed to be Taleban, but who can tell whether a dead villager is Taleban?
Even when the body is Taleban, how do we regard that as a victory? The Taleban is a loosely-knit organization, a kind of political party and anti-invader guerilla force, bound to conservative traditions in a hardscrabble land of tough mountain people. Death does not intimidate where people typically live to forty-seven.
Except in the bizarre mind of George Bush, the Taleban is not a terrorist organization,. So when one of them is killed, does it really represent a victory? Or is it viewed by many in Afghanistan as murder by unwelcome foreigners? Clearly, this is the view of many because the Taleban is becoming stronger, surprisingly so according to expert observers.
The recent refusal of NATO countries to commit more troops and resources to Afghanistan was telling. Pressure from the US must have been immense, but the response was virtual silence. Of course, most NATO countries are simply looking after their own best interests. Many of them understand terrorism far better than does the US, having lived with it for decades, and none of them are exhibiting death-wishes or dementia.
They know Al Qaeda has been scattered to the four winds–anything but an achievement from a security point of view–and they see little point in trying to occupy Afghanistan for years. They understand the impossibility of significantly changing so ancient and poor a land. They are not taken in by American Potemkin village projects for bettering life there, after having bombed the hell out of the place. NATO countries in general do not accept Bush’s tale about everyone’s security depending upon success in Afghanistan for the very good reason that it is false.
On the other hand, those supporting the US in Afghanistan are following Bush’s interests, whatever those are, for I’m not sure Bush ever has had a clear grasp of what he is doing himself.
The other lost war is, of course, Iraq. American efforts there have done little but kill civilians and destroy the economy and now threaten to destroy the country itself. Even in Washington, the reality of civil war is dawning. America’s real goals in the war are not going to be achieved, the major one of which was to establish a regime friendly to American policy, especially as that policy pertains to Israel. Instead, years of bloody chaos lie ahead. The outcome, who knows? Three separate warring rump states, each willing to do almost anything to gain an advantage, including taking assistance from those most hostile to American policy?
But the American loss in Iraq is far greater than this. The illegal and unjustified invasion has muddied America’s reputation, aroused suspicions of its intentions, and put new geopolitical forces into play only dimly perceived at this time.
When are we going to learn how stupidly unproductive war is? And when is the US going to learn how bad it is at war despite its monstrous expenditures preparing for it?

I’ve some questions to those that propose to hate America. Why? Is it because of our seeming complacency and complicity in our governments stupidity and arrogance in national and international affairs? Or is it the zealotry that some of my fellow countrymen display towards our nation of birth? Or do you hate for hates sake? Well FYI not all of us are apathetic or sheep. I for one am constantly phoning and mailing our Congressmen as to why things are the way they are. I also try to get others involved and informed as much as possible in the political process. Not all of us are blind fanatics. Most of the people I know are very open minded and respectful of other nations cultures and traditions, which doesn’t necessarily imply that we have no national pride. And have any of you actually been to the U.S.? Granted their are minor isolated pockets of people that can’t stand foreigners but by and large we’re a very welcoming society. We lost about 10-15% from our country and the areas russians took were one of the most beautiful in whole country. And we fought only to get back areas the soviets had taken before, we were no nazis. Wounded, tetchy and less effective than it should be, America is still the power that counts

EVEN the greatest empires hurt when they lose wars. It is not surprising then that Iraq weighs so heavily on the American psyche. Most Americans want to get out as soon as possible, surge or no surge; many more wish they had never invaded the country in the first place. But for a growing number of Americans the superpower’s inability to impose its will on Mesopotamia is symptomatic of a deeper malaise.
Nearly six years after September 11th, nervousness about the state of America’s “hard power” is growing (see article). Iraq and Afghanistan (another far-off place where the United States, short of troops and allies, may be losing a war) have stretched the Pentagon’s resources. An army designed to have 17 brigades on active deployment now has 25 in the field. Despite bringing in reservists and the National Guard, many American troops spend more than half their time on active duty; the British spend a fifth.
Other demons are jangling America’s nerves. There is the emergence of China as a rival embryonic superpower, with an economy that may soon be bigger than America’s (at least in terms of purchasing power); the re-emergence of a bellicose, gas-fired Russia; North Korea’s defiance of Uncle Sam by going nuclear, and Iran’s determination to follow suit; Europe’s lack of enthusiasm for George Bush’s war on terror; the Arabs’ dismissal of his democratisation project; the Chávez-led resistance to Yankee capitalism in America’s backyard.
Nor is it just a matter of geopolitics. American bankers are worried that other financial centres are gaining at Wall Street’s expense. Nativists fret about America’s inability to secure its own borders. As for soft power, Abu Ghraib, Guantánamo Bay, America’s slowness to tackle climate change and its neglect of the Palestinians have all, rightly or wrongly, cost it dearly. Polls show that ever fewer foreigners trust America, and some even find China’s totalitarians less dangerous.
Power to the wrong people
A sense of waning power is not just bad for the self-esteem of Americans. It is already having dangerous consequences. Inside the United States, “China-bashing” has become a defensive strategy for both the left and the right. Isolationism is also on the rise. Most Democrats already favour an America that “minds its own business”.
Outside America, the consequences could be even graver. Iran’s Islamic revolutionaries and Russia’s Vladimir Putin have both bet in different ways that a bruised Uncle Sam will not be able to constrain them. Meanwhile, a vicious circle of no confidence threatens the Western alliance: if Italy, for instance, concludes that a weakened America will not last the course in Afghanistan, then it will commit even fewer troops to the already undermanned NATO force there—which in turn prompts more Americans to question the project.
Yet America is being underestimated. Friends and enemies have mistaken the short-term failure of the Bush administration for deeper weakness. Neither American hard nor soft power is fading. Rather, they are not being used as well as they could be. The opportunity is greater than the threat.
It is hard to deny that America looks weaker than it did in 2000. But is that really due to a tectonic shift or to the errors of a single administration? Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld reversed the wise Rooseveltian doctrine, “Speak softly and carry a big stick”. After September 11th the White House talked up American power to an extraordinary degree. In that brief period of “shock and awe” when Americans were from Mars, their Venutian allies were lucky to get invited to the show (indeed, in Afghanistan some “old” Europeans were initially turned away). Meanwhile, Mr Bush declared a “war on terror”, rather than just on al-Qaeda, broadening the front to unmanageable dimensions (and paving the way for Guantánamo).
While the talk was loud, the stick was spindly. Defying his generals, Mr Rumsfeld sent too few troops to Iraq to pacify the country. Disbanding the Iraqi army compounded the error. Regardless of whether Iraq was ever winnable, it is hard to imagine any future American administrations making such schoolboy howlers when it comes to regime change.
America the indispensable
Yet in one way Mr Bush is unfairly maligned. Contrary to the Democratic version of history, America did not enjoy untrammelled influence abroad before he arrived. The country that won the cold war also endured several grievous reverses, notably Vietnam (where 58,000 Americans were killed—16 times the figure for Iraq). Iran has been defying America since Jimmy Carter’s presidency, and North Korea for a generation before that. As for soft power, France has been complaining about Coca-Cola and Hollywood for nearly a century.
From this perspective of relative rather than absolute supremacy, a superpower’s strength lies as much in what it can prevent from happening as in what it can achieve. Even today, America’s “negative power” is considerable. Very little of any note can happen without at least its acquiescence. Iran and North Korea can defy the Great Satan, but only America can offer the recognition the proliferating regimes crave. In all sorts of areas—be it the fight against global warming or the quest for an Arab-Israeli peace—America is quite simply indispensable.
That is because America still has the most hard power. Its volunteer army is indeed stretched: it could not fight another small war of choice. But it can still muster 1.5m people under arms and a defence budget almost as big as the whole of the rest of the world’s. And it could call on so much more: in relation to the country’s size, its defence budget and army are quite small by historical standards. Better diplomacy would enhance its power. One irony of the “war on terror” is that Mr Bush’s hyperventilation worked against him in terms of getting boots on the ground: neither his own countrymen nor his allies were sure enough that they were really under threat. (And why should they be? An American-led West spent four decades tussling with a nuclear-armed empire that stretched from Berlin to Vladivostok; al-Qaeda is still small beer.)
The surveys that show America’s soft power to be less respected than it used to be also show the continuing universal appeal of its values—especially freedom and openness. Even the immigrants and foreign goods that so worry some Americans are tributes to that appeal (by contrast, the last empire to build a wall on its border, the Soviet one, was trying to keep its subjects in). Nor is it an accident that anti-Americanism has fed off those instances, such as Guantánamo Bay, where America has seemed most un-American. This is the multiplier effect that Mr Bush missed: win the battle for hearts and minds and you do not need as much hard power to get your way.
That lesson is worth bearing in mind when it comes to the challenge of China. China is likely to be more and more in America’s face, whether buying American firms, winning Olympic gold or blasting missiles into space. Merely by growing, China is disrupting the politics of the Pacific. But that does not mean that it is automatically on track to overtake America. Its politics are fragile (see article) and America’s lead is immense. Moreover, economics is not a zero-sum game: so far, a bigger China has helped to enrich America. An America that stays open to China—an America that sticks to American values—is much more likely to help fashion the China it wants.
If America were a stock, it would be a “buy”: an undervalued market leader, in need of new management. But that points to its last great strength. More than any rival, America corrects itself. Under pressure from voters, Mr Bush has already rediscovered some of the charms of multilateralism; he is talking about climate change; a Middle East peace initiative is possible. Next year’s presidential election offers a chance for renewal. Such corrections are not automatic: something (a misadventure in Iran?) may yet compound the misery of Iraq in the same way Watergate followed Vietnam. But America recovered from the 1970s. It will bounce back stronger again.

LAGOS, Nigeria – Uncle Sam has some African fans.
As first lady Laura Bush tours the world’s poorest continent, a new report charting global attitudes shows America’s image sagging around the globe — but not in Africa, where the Stars and Stripes still symbolize strength and wealth. In fact, America is more popular in several African nations than even in America.
“The American society is a model of success that is a dream to Ivorian youth,” says Mohamed Diarra, a 30-year-old in Ivory Coast, where some 88 percent of the population holds a favorable view of the United States — the highest in the world according to Pew Global Attitudes report.
Ivory Coast, Ghana and Kenya hold America in higher regard than the fourth-highest national admirer of America: The United States itself, where about 80 percent of respondents held a favorable view of the country.
Hundreds of people were interviewed face-to-face in each of 10 sub-Saharan African countries — Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. The margins of error ranged from 3 to 4 percent.
In most countries, the United States was viewed positively by some three-quarters of adults. Only Tanzania, with 46 percent of respondents expressing positive opinions about America; South Africa with 61 percent; and Uganda with 64 percent bucked the trend.
On a continent where feeding the kids is often a daily struggle, the “American dream” of advancing through hard work resonates. The United States also lacks the colonial baggage of other Western nations, while its hip-hop, rap and rhythm and blues provide much of the soundtrack of African life.
Culturally, many Africans feel closer to the United States, where they perceive Africans and their influences have been more closely integrated than in Europe.
Also, gripping poverty leaves fewer Africans with the time or energy for debate on global issues, like the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
American might, despite how it may be applied, is seen even among its detractors as potentially beneficial.
Toward the end of the 1989-2003 civil war in Liberia, citizens in the rebel-besieged capital of Monrovia deposited their dead at the gates of the U.S. Embassy, hoping for protection by American military forces.
Weeks later, the U.S. was instrumental in ending the war in the West African nation, founded in the 1800s by freed American slaves, its “Lone Star” flag modeled on the stars and stripes.
America’s extensive historical role in Liberia is mostly an exception.
In Ivory Coast, and in many of the former French colonies of West Africa, America played no colonial role.
For many Ivorians, America is the anti-France. Government-allied militia leaders have worn American flag bandannas and peppered their rousing speeches with English.
“For me, a French (person) is an imperialist, a terrorist,” said Jonas Kouadio, a 27-year-old student. “And Americans fight against terrorists.”
Even in many sub-Saharan African Muslim lands, America scores high marks.
In Senegal, where Mrs. Bush received a warm welcome at an AIDS hospital this week, some 69 percent of those polled said they held a favorable view of America. In contrast, Indonesia — the world’s most-populous Muslim nation — only 29 percent of respondents viewed the United States favorably.
The practice of West African Islam is more mystical and generally less strict than in the Middle East or North Africa. Also, religion hasn’t become politicized as it has in other regions.
Senegal is almost uniformly Muslim, but its first and longtime president was a Christian. In Senegal, Muslims don’t feel threatened.
That’s not the case in Nigeria, however, which has a history of Christian-Muslim violence. About half of its 140 million people practice Islam.
The Pew study released this week found 94 percent of Christian Nigerians viewed America favorably, but only 49 percent of Muslims did.
“I hate America since it started the war against terrorism, because it considers all Muslims as terrorist,” said Aliyu Yusif, a 31-year-old street trader in the northern Nigerian city of Kano. “If America can change its policy on terrorism, America will be cherished by all Muslims because of the aid its gives to weaker nations.”
But even in northern Nigeria, as in Senegal, Mali, Ghana and other African countries, buses can be found emblazoned with American flags.
But so can Christian and Muslim sayings as well as stickers bearing the faces of Che Guevera, the pop star Madonna and Osama bin Laden. As symbols, their meanings aren’t fixed — or even necessarily hint at anyone’s philosophy.
One crippled beggar boy in Dakar, Senegal, wore a T-shirt with a beatific image of bin Laden while recently asking an American for a handout.
Asked about the shirt, the boy looked down quizzically at his chest and replied that it had been given to him, likely from a bale of cast-off clothing sent from overseas.
“What am I supposed to do?” he asked. “It’s my only shirt!”

For goodness sake. OK, some of you need a history lesson. It doesn’t matter what you all say and what country you come from, we are ALL foreign in some way. The US is a nation of immigrants, English, Scottish, Dutch, Irish, African, Carribean, Central and South American. The only true 100% American is a Native American, and recent research suggests they were originally Arctic, Scandinavian (Vikings) and Central/Southern American in origin. Same is true of the UK, Saxons, Angles, Picts, Celts, Vikings settled from all over Europe.
The US would not have won it’s independence if it was not for the French, the Americans were forced back to the coast and were being slaughtered until the French sided with them against the British. It’s funny how many American’s hate the French these days. Britain had already won the battle of britain by the time the US joined the war. The US (and other nations) certainly played a huge part and it could not have been done without them, but the Russian’s played an even bigger part, you don’t hear them bleating on and rolling out this arguement again and again.

Oh, and quality of this release is actually pretty good. Watchable, decent sound. A little dark in places but that’s a minor point. Probably the best cam release of this film so far.

Let me give you an example. I’m originally from Europe, currently live in New York. As an educated person who tries to understand the complexity of the world he’s living in, I have no hatred towards Muslims, gays, blacks, Australia, China, Microsoft, Apple, Sony, or even terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda, whose bloody politics I unconditionally despise. I realize that American foreign and domestic policies are full of gaps and mistakes, but I also realize that this sentence can be also applied to absolutely every single country I’ve ever set my foot in. Even such ugly concepts like religious zealotry cannot be blamed on particular individuals and nations since their very birth is a direct byproduct of the very complex geopolitical relationships of the world and its deep cultural heritage. And the reason I’m saying all this is that I fail to understand what makes my rather tolerant view so offensive to you that I deserve to die from the hand of a religious extremist? In your desire to generalize and simplify such intricate situations, you fail to understand that there are thousands of people living in every country on the planet who think and act exactly like you do. Even if your wife hates her government, she’s still British whose right to do so is protected by the very same government she despises, and, following your twisted line of thinking, she should die with the rest of the British population because she fits under the dumbed down view of the world you gave us here.
Oh, and to answer your previous question, the reason why thousands of people leave and come into the United Kingdom is human migration, which is the most natural occurrence in the human history. It happens in every country that doesn’t restrict the rights of its citizens to move, speak and think freely without the fear of being punished by those with different opinions.

The picture is pretty good for a cam. The audio lacks bass, watching it on my TV the frequency is so poor it won’t activate my subwoofer. Otherwise, it’s fairly watchable.
Forgot to mention that the picture as expected for a cam is a bit washed out and dark. I found adjusting the setting on my TV to Sports Mode (on Sony TVs) helped a lot by brightening the picture and add some colour to skin tones.
What a piece of shit. The first 45 mins is not all bad, but then it turns into a total waste of time. And what kind of hacker was that little idiot? Really crap film. Maybe exciting for 10 year olds.

WW2 was lost in 41 when Hitler ordered the Wehrmacht to halt it’s advance towards Dunkirk which consequently allowed most of the battle-hardened BEF (British Expeditionary Force) and a few french troops escape. Without that order Britain would not have been in any position to put up the fight it did in the battle for britain. The second major factor in the war’s outcome was the invasion of Russia – and no it wasn’t american aid that helped the Russians, it was the fact that they disasembled all their factories piece by piece and build them up behind the ural mountains. A third factor was Germany’s economy not being prepared for war and it’s over-diversification of military hardware. Whielst the Russians built a few models of tanks and planes and therefore machinery could be standardised the Germans built countless models of tanks, planes and guns which made production an often delayed process.
America, whielst giving some aid to both Britain and Russia was in no way the decisive factor for VE day. The outcome was decided in the early stages of the war.
But you’d never know that if alls you knew about history was hollywood movies on WW2.

This movie was badass. grasnted its not as good as 1 or 2, but Bruce is still all about kicking some ass. I enjoyed it.
