Yippee-ki-yay! I am back from my small vacation and here to bring you another fine hV release! We already posted the 720p release by REFiNE of this movie, but now hV doubles the joy with a 1080p release. Got a fast machine for this kind of release? Then go for it!
Synopsis: When someone hacks into the computers at the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division; the Director decides to round up all the hackers who could have done this. When he’s told that because it’s the 4th of July most of their agents are not around so they might have trouble getting people to get the hackers. So he instructs them to get local PD’S to take care of it. And one of the cops they ask is John McClane who is tasked with bringing a hacker named Farrell to the FBI. But as soon as he gets there someone starts shooting at them. McClane manages to get them out but they’re still being pursued. And it’s just when McClane arrives in Washington that the whole system breaks down and chaos ensues.

I had pretty low expectations when I started seeing previews of this… but after seeing it in theaters I was left pretty impressed. It was a nice step for the Die Hard series.
How can Fox justifie not releasing the R rated version in hidef?

Just finished downloading all the diehard movies in 720p…might have stretched to this one but I don’t think it is worth it seeing as my tv is 720p

your TV being 720p is one thing…..but there is another thing people should think about when downloading a movie that is over 10 gigs and is 1080p…..you need one hell of a computer to push that movie i have a core2 duo and its still not good enough to give me smooth playback….720p is fine to watch any movie in.
If you use CoreAVC it will play on any Core2Duo. Even plays on my laptop AMD Turion @ 1.6ghz (dual core)
there are so many core2duos out there, you should be more specific, how fast is it?
There is nothing like watching someone get their ass kicked in 1080p and DTS to really appreciate “HD”

Its your video card holding you back, not the processor. any newer nvidia 8 series will play 1080 fine, even on a p4. get an 8600gt if all you want it for is watching hi-def, its only around $120 on newegg and its great for HD playback.

your missing my point….don’t worry about the spec of my computer any movie under 10gigs plays fine on my machine its 10gigs and higher that is a problem….and its not my player dude I’m using coreavs have good one.
this is totally crazy, 10gb for a movie, and then having good computer specs… We’re so far ahead of those crappy .avi cam copies or VCD.

So what do you have to do to watch one of these on yr highdef t.v? You need a burner that does blu-ray, and then a dvd player that plays blu-ray? And with the cost of blu-ray discs its all getting rather expensive isn’t it?

you can’t keep the same quality,….. i recommend buying a bigger hard drive and store them in their and their original .mkv format then watch it in your TV directly from the hard drive, by using Media center or a PC with HDMI connection.

Just stream it from your PC to HDTV using HDMI you can buy a DVI to HDMI cable for under $10 at newegg. and to n00bs whining about 10GB I can DL these in 20 minutes on fios with usenet and thgey are well worth the size when you watch them on an HD set.

Can a 360 playback .x264 content if stored on the HDD?
Anyone know if this has scenes in another language with subtitles, I’ve noticed that with these Blu-Ray Rips…
@Peter Parker: Yes, if you have the latest update for it and remux the mkv to some other supported container (xbox 360 doesn’t support matroska). Doing that will not reencode the video stream so the quality will be the same.

What tool do you use to remux x264 HD movies?
The rule of thumb seems to be that if you have a TV smaller than 40″, you won’t be able to tell the difference between a 1080p and 720p movie. If you have a nice 50″ then there’s a visible difference. Apparently.
CoreAVC or not, it’s pretty heavy duty to support 1080p from your PC to your TV. I have a Core2Due 2.66Ghz running at 3.4Ghz and I can barely play it back off local harddisk. USB disk or network servers already produce noticable slow-downs.
At 46……Christ only knows but it looked legit when I clicked on it despite my better judgement. oh well I reported it to Rapidshare so they’ll cancel the account. I don’t care if I lost it as long as that guy doesn’t benefit from it.
Just to make sure guys, it is only worth while to download 1080p releases if you either have a 27″-30″ pc monitor or a 42″ FULL HD television right? Anything less than that is like having a 500 HP Ferrari engine attached to a Hyundai transmission gear. I have a HD Ready television so I shouldn’t bother right?

something is really messed up with your pc then. My old HTPC was a P4 2.8 with an 8600gt (dvi to hdmi) and it could run HD movies all day with no problem at all.

My “old” Athlon 64 x2 plays back 1080p with 50%+ cpu to spare (depending on the scene).
Craptel cpus must be real sucky to not be able to smoothly play
these low-bitrate HD movies (yeah 8mbps is low considering that HD movies are 30-50mbps on the discs themselves).

@54 i watch 720p on my overclocked e6600 and that uses about 7% of cpu… trust me, intel are making the best cpus

10gigs is about 2.5 dvds, not 10
Stop complaining about CPU’s not being able to play HiDef smoothly. I running a laptop core2duo chip (ie less powerful than desktop chips, and CPU usage playing 720p videos is probably around 10-20% (depending on the movie, encoding, CPU speed etc). I would expect 1080p rips not to take more than 50% on any modern CPU. If VLC reports that you are dropping frames, you need to increase file buffering from 300ms to 3000ms or so, then you will get perfect playback.
Im not convinced video cards really make much difference either (at least not with VLC).
There is no “Rule of thumb” about screen sizes and what resolution is best. Any screen that is “Full HD” 1920×1080 (or more) will benefit from 1080p, anything of lower resolution 720p video is probably best (esp considering bandwidth savings).
