Linkin Park – Minutes to Midnight (2007)

It’s been a while since my last post. But my prebot just announced the long awaited album of Linkin Park. So I couldn’t wait to tell it to you guys. The release was nuked, but it has been unnuked with the reason ‘its.real‘. And i can confirm that. I’m listening to it at the moment, and it’s definitely real. It has the voice of Chester, and it sounds good. A little bit different than the last album, but definitely worth listening!

The album was delayed multiple times, first scheduled for summer 2006, then fall 2006, then early 2007, and now May 14, 2007 worldwide with the North American release the day after. In an interview in September 2006, Shinoda explained, “When songs are pouring out you don’t ever want to stop that. We already have over 100 roughs for songs. We’ve narrowed it down since but we’re not ready to commit to those yet.” From the early demo sessions, “QWERTY”, which was rumored to be on Minutes to Midnight, has appeared on the Linkin Park Underground v6.0 CD on December 5, 2006 in both live and studio demo versions. The song has now been confirmed as a B-Side track and will not be included on Minutes to Midnight.

“This was a year-and-a-half long process of really hard work and experimentation in the studio that yielded about 150 rough songs,” guitarist Brad Delson told Billboard.com. “Not only is this album incredibly diverse, but the depth of the material is really strong.” The first single, “What I’ve Done”, was released on April 2, 2007, and debuted at number one on the U.S. Modern Rock chart.

New album sucks big time ! It’s nice for 12 year olds … smooth, nice melodies with no power at all – Tokio Hotel like. UUUF I was asleep during whole album …

why the hell is this labeled PiPi!?!?!??!

the uploader on Demonoid’s username is not PiPi

and this isnt a scene release

so explain what is the deal!

    May 4th, 2007 | 19:41

when will linkin park ever top the reanimation album? goddamn that cd was genius. what the fuck happened to them? sigh…

this new album, albeit i’ve been listening to it for about 4 minutes now, sounds like heavy metal fused with disney-produced ballads mixed in the bunch.

  26. May 4th, 2007 | 19:53

i hope mike is right abd this isnt the real cd mybe a fake leak that linkin park put out lets hope so because this cd is shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. Atari
    May 4th, 2007 | 19:57

Gonna translate some of these complaints for you guys. Here goes… “This CD doesn’t contain nearly enough screaming and power chords to quell my teen angst, therefore this CD sucks”

Sorry if you guys don’t like it but artist grow and mature. This is the real CD and it’s not nearly as bad as people are saying. Accept the fact that they’ve matured as a band and are capable of more than just adrenaline rock and it’s all good.

  28. May 4th, 2007 | 19:58

the more i read about the release the more i believe it is fake.

    BUT

Linkin Park did say this album would be completely different from anything else they’ve done.

    BUT THEN AGAIN

“What I’ve Done” sounds like it could be on any of their old albums

  29. May 4th, 2007 | 20:04

Well the album is not fake . Its true that songs are slow and doesnt sound like their previous songs . But I think it is a good album . Everyone needs a change. There are two songs for Mike only and someone was sayin u can hardly hear mike on the cd. I’ll give it 4 out of 5

  30. Atari
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:05

Taken directly from your article Mike…

“Joe [Hahn] came up to Mike and I and asked us to take the whole idea of Minutes to Midnight and apply that to how the band has changed. So, in a way, it’s us saying goodbye to how we used to be,”

  31. Atari
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:08

More from that article that points to the fact that they’ve just grown as a band and aren’t the same band they were FOUR years ago.

“Take, for example, Minutes to Midnight’s first single, “What I’ve Done.” Written by Bennington and Shinoda after the band had decided on the whole Midnight concept, it’s Linkin Park dropping the bomb on their rap-rock roots and embracing a new, more stripped-down sound”

  32. Atari
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:12

Raw doesn’t mean what you’re reading it at. Raw in the musical sense can mean any number or things. Acoustic is often called raw, just because it’s the pure essence of the guitar. Raw doesn’t mean adrenaline fueled, it can but I really don’t think that’s what they meant in that article. Everything in that article points to the fact that they’ve changed as a band.

  33. Atari
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:14

And I read your comment that he doesn’t say “fuck”. So he can’t have changed? It’s been four years since their last studio album….have you not changed in four years?

  34. Slyck
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:18

LP has def. gone down the toilet. This album is complete shiite! There isn’t any really tight shinoda rhyme delivery, nothing. The band needs to goo back to their roots to reinvent themselves or just disband and fuck off. Def. a waste of my fucking bandwidth.

  35. Khan
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:23

They have matured and I think it is great. There is more real music and less of all that synthesized artificial crap.

  36. drewdeere
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:24

if u like the old lp i suggest fort minor

  37. Joe
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:28

Mike…. just to settle the whole “chester doesn’t say fuck” thing, listen to the song he sang on the Queen Of The Damned Soundtrack, he uses ‘fuck’ multiple times and in every interview he can barely go a paragraph without it…. and this is in fact the real cd, i work for a radio station and it was sent to us from the label with a promo kit with new band pictures and a press release. nice try though Mike.

  38. KM
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:29

    This is a great album…
“shadow od the day” is a copy of U2 “with or without you”…

  39. eric
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:29

i question whether or not it’s a 100% legit. This was supposed to be the first album to actually contain cursing.

Someone else said the 03 album wasn’t pirated till the day of. That’s bs, I had it at least a week and a half before the release date.

  40. welitis
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:38

wow!! dl in less than 5 minutes!…. I’m listening to it now.. it’s not fake… it’s clearly “linkin park”.. much more melodic than before.. wow .. IT’S GOTTA BE HARD TO SOUND ANGRY WHEN YOU’RE A BILLIONAIRE! Some of these songs are bubble gum pop!!

  41. realny
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:50

I just reseeded it and deleted it out of my hard disk as soon as possible.
    It’s so bad.

  42. russell nash
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:57

This is indeed the real deal!
And there is evolution to be found on this one! More melodic, granted, but CHester is here, nonetheless, to quench you angst thirst! xecutioners gettin a bit old maybe, but still love Mike doin his thing! My advice: don’t believe the hype and give this a try!

  43. Joe
    May 4th, 2007 | 20:58

I don’t understand all of these horrible reviews. I can certainly understand if you were a die-hard fan of their previous work how this may not be appealing to you, but to label this work as “pop” and “garbage” is rediculous. This is far from a pop record, it’s a rock record, plain and simple. Pop would be what they did with Jay-Z. Pop was screaming “shut up when i’m talking to you” 5 times in a row, this new record brances out and discusses some darker issues, as well as very open opinions toward politics, last time I checked pop culture there weren’t too many pop artists covering the themes on this record. Would you rather have three records that sound identical, or three unique records with each their own sound, which seems to be the approach linkin park are taking…. If you haven’t listened to this yet, give it a listen, I think those who are fans of rock will appreciate it, of course the high school kids who need their nu-metal fix are going to look down upon this, but anyone who can take a more mature approach to music, this is for you.

they worked with rick rubin. they are re-invented. he said if it sounds like it could have been on the previous albums, he didn’t want to work with it. i think you should give it a chance, its not the old lp, but its pretty good.

“What I’ve Done” was accidentally named as “Shadow Of The Day”

But honestly, who gives a fuck?

Its still a quality release. Major props.

  71. X-caliber
    May 5th, 2007 | 13:32

    Yeah, I’ll Second Jack Black.
It looks like another Back Street Boys

LP without Nu-Metal is like Soccer without football

Bleed it out and What I’ve done are awesome but others are melodious :( Not like LP way

  72. X-caliber
    May 5th, 2007 | 13:35

Hope to see some kind of mix like the Reanimation edition ..with Nu- metal and lot of rapping :D

  73. tbones
    May 5th, 2007 | 15:38

i must agree with a lot of these comments, im a true linkin park fan, have seen them live 4 times now,and this is certainly not their best album, they have done away with the whole nu-metal feeling, maybe two tracks off the album are high tempo, the rest is to down to earth,i mean listern to qwerty, now thats a proper lp tune, why is that not on the album, its not soppy enough!its nu metal music that has made them the band they are today……..still their is a b side album on its way, hope that will be better, im sure alot of linkin park fans will have to agree with me ,this is all a big change for the band , and im sorry to say not the best one!

  74. May 5th, 2007 | 16:47

And :D I would like the editor to change one thing
    In genre its written ” Nu-metal ”

    Its should be ” NO – metal ” :D

Jokes apart, No doubts about the Lyrics of the songs, but the feel is not the LP way.

    # Given Up” Pheww…one song where I’d feel bit of distortion, deceit and yes typical Chester Screams :D ” Put it out of my F**king Misery….” thats good.

    # Leave out All the rest” is like Chester is forced to sing on the path of BackStreet Boys, though i loved the song atleast better than Backstreet Boys :d

    # Bleed it out” is something different and awesome, I must say. Its Rap with Mexican, Definitely Hats off to Mike Shinoda for the Rap – Bravo.

    # Shadow of the Day” seems like another melodious act, very down to earth like.

    # What I’ve done” ahhh…No comments, too good.

    # Hand Held high” this reminds me of the morning school parade. Shinoda tried to get the groove but he did lot better in Fort Minor

    # No more sorrow” Ahhh, as the title goes you may feel that this song could have the same deceit and pain which were the part of previous LP tracks, but still the song didnt reach my expectation.

    # Valentine’s Day” excuse me, please wake me up…is this really LP track, unbelievable. They lost it all but again the Lyrics is good

    # In between” Man please tell me this release is a fake one. :( Thats not the LP way

    # In Pieces” ….as soon as the one minute of playing time was passed I pushed this button ” >>| ”

    # The Little Things Give You Away” Sorry I’d no other option than to use STOP key :(

It sounds nice but i’ve not listened to all album yet. By the way, it’s not Metal, it’s alternative rock.

Where are the awesome sounds? The adrenaline pumping beats and the smooth mix of rap and rock? Everything I loved about Linkin Park is gone on this album. This one does nothing for me.
Sure hope it is a fake, though I have a feeling it’s not.

So if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it! The band evolved. You can’t expect that they will stay on the same level as on Hybrid Theory. Things changed in their lives, they see this world from different perspective. Maybe the label company made them do such leap. But who cares. They still rock, not only for 12 years old. And by the way, if you can compare LP to tokio hotel, that means you listen to such crap.
And after all, they’re getting older. :) They should calm down. :)

LP r still the best ever but this still could be fake because chester hasnt said fuck or anuything like that in any of his song yet but the lyrics on other sites are the exact same as these

From the sound of it, LP has given up their Rap-rock attitude, and I HATE that! I loved the cool sounds that they had in Crawling, Numb, Faint, and In the End. But as I can see, they’ve given it up. I was suprised to find that Chester actually cussed in ‘Given Up.’ I thought they were a band that didn’t need to express anger, hate, or sorrow by cussing, just by the lyrics, guitars, drums and sound effects. But I guess I was wrong…

If I wanted a different sound, I would just buy a CD from some other band. Why change a good thing?

Yeah guys im slightly “SLIGHTLY” disappointed but To tell you the truth the album doesnt sound that bad I mean yes there songs have taken a lighter tone but from a poetic stand by, their lyrics actually make more sense. “What ive done” is the shit and we all know that but come on I really liked “Bleed it Out” and “Leave Out All the Rest” too they were good tracks. Not My favorite album but not by far a failure.

P.S. Hands held High was a good one too

  89. May 16th, 2007 | 18:34

YEah thats what I ve said before too, all the lyrics are superb

Hats off to Mike shinoda for that

when you carefully listen ” In Between ” n ” In pieces ” you will surely starting to like it

same lies for Shadow of the Day, hands held high

The Only track that didnt mean sense to me in the track no. 12
Man musics seems to be so out of sync. I wonder what was Rob doing with the drumset

I would rate total album as 7.5/10
while Hybrid 8.5/10, Meteora 9/10 and Reanimation 9.5/10 and Collision Course 8.5/10

The album is fantastic, yea I know the other 2 albums (Hybrid and Meteroa) both caught my ears straight and away and this one took a few listens, but tracks like Hands Held High and Bleed It Out just make you want to play it over and over!

“When the rich wage war, ITS THE POOR THAT DIE!!”

“Granade pins in every line, throw them up and make somethin shine” (this may be slightly wrong, but i cant be bothered goin to a lyrics site…)

The fact is this album was not what a lot of people were expecting and as such there is a lot of disapointment in there new direction since there are a ton of other bands doing raw rock and a whole lot better, i loved the freshness that came with their first two albums and the fact you could pick out just about everyones input into most songs and considering the band size that was quality.
This album could have been pulled off by chester and a session band and they show a loack of flow and direction with this medley of melodyless ballads and bellow par rock, my comments matter not trhough i bought the album although with very little to look forward to now it will be my last.
Roll on korn a band with talent direction and comitment.
