Need more standard rips… why has it taken so long!

@1 Yes, what used to be a once in a while occasion of the HR rip beating out the standard one is now becoming almost a daily occurrence. I guess it’s good for the hi res folks, but pretty crappy for the rest of us.
My theory is that it’s lack of respect for shows that are in slightly lesser demand. Still great, loved by many, but not respected by the scene. This kind of B S would never happen to Heroes or Prison Break.
I’m sorry but if you can’t watch or download 720p you sorely need a hardware or internet connection upgrade. You can watch 720p on an old Pentium 4 CPU which can be bought for less than $80 and can get high-speed internet for $60 or less a month. I do like the standard rips at times because they download quicker but I’m not complaining if the world is moving to 720p.

Yeah,especially if you actually have those extra money lying around,eh? You’ve actually missing one little detail,for quite a lot of us there isn’t a difference between HD and normal quality, because we’re watching the stuff on some 14-15-16 inch laptop monitors, so we’ll actually be wasting bandwith to download a significantly bigger file than necessary.
And btw – NL-350mb PLZ!

@5 It’s not really about having the necessary hardware to run 720, it’s, like bk 109 mentioned, about wasting bandwith. It’s bad enough that the HR version of a one hour show is a gig. It’s just salt in the wound when no one grabs it after you (because nobody DLs HR stuff) and your ratio takes a massive hit (on private trackers).
It’s also wasted HD space. I keep buying TB drives and yet I’m still always down to my last few megs. Those 650 extra megs make a big difference for me. If I expand it to watch it while still seeding the rars, that’s 1.3 gigs down the drain. Also, if it’s a show I want to save (and I do archive Life), I’m not going to waste space on the HR version, so that means I’ll ultimately have to DL the standard when it comes out so my standard set is complete. This means I have to DL it twice.
Lastly, it’s not a huge deal, but unraring the 720 takes almost 3 times as long.
If I’m really chomping at the bit, I’ll sometimes grab a 720, but believe me, I pay for my impatience- in loss of bandwith, loss of HD space and precious time.
