Finally we see another group in the HD-RiPs section. DEFiNiTE comes across the corner with a nice 1080p release: Letters from Iwo Jima. DIrected by Clint Eastwood, it’s a very good movie and if you haven’t seen this already I think you should grab this one. If you already have seen it, I think you might also get this because this movie will look FINE in 1080p.

The island of Iwo Jima stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. Therefore the Imperial Japanese Army is desperate to prevent it from falling into American hands and providing a launching point for an invasion of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is given command of the forces on the island and sets out to prepare for the imminent attack. General Kuribayashi, however, does not favor the rigid traditional approach recommended by his subordinates, and resentment and resistance fester among his staff. In the lower echelons, a young soldier, Saigo, a poor baker in civilian life, strives with his friends to survive the harsh regime of the Japanese army itself, all the while knowing that a fierce battle looms. When the American invasion begins, both Kuribayashi and Saigo find strength, honor, courage, and horrors beyond imagination.

    8GB again?! This is a 1080p rip, probably off a 25GB+ disc. You wouldn’t be complaining if you had a nice LCD TV and were playing this or any other nice HD content on it. Very hard to go back to nasty old SD DivX after going HD.

    yawn my ass. for those that actually cherish films for its beauty rather than pure action/no character development/no storyline, this film is terrific, even better than flags of our fathers.

    truly good movie
    i admire clint eastwood style like robert redford,surprisingly ,from actors,making
    those things,that will make you think.

    in the same style,the movie yamato ,in 2005,was made for a japanese audience
    so there are not many copies with subtitles around.

    in short-the human factor side,ordinary people,not being told everything
    sent to follow the dreams of others.

    I read some comments that people dont like these, but I cant understand why. The quality is great, dont you peepz want to enjoy the film ur viewing??

    Who wants a 700mb, pixelated, mess of an SD Divx video when you can have a pristine, clear, sharp, HD video instead??

    Its just like when you wait for a better copy than a CAM because it looks better. And soon, there will only be HD anyway, so get into it now!

    most people just are too cheap, that is why they dont want these great HD releases. they either dont want to pay their ISP for a faster plan or to buy more GB/month.

    the ones that keep complaining should stop being so tight, youre already getting the releases for nothing.

    umm…how is 1080×748 a 1080p res? am i missing something? 1920×1080 is 1080i or p. this isn’t even 720p at 1280×720….can someone explain this to me. hell, even hdv’s 1440×1080 trumps this resolution.

    yes, moron, you are missing something. the resolution of this release (stated in the NFO) is 1920×748.

    once you remove the 332 pixels worth of black bars from the top and bottom (1080-748=332), which should not be included in the encoding, you get the resulting 1920×748 resolution.
