Here is the latest release of Left 4 Dead for PC. We posted the 360 version a while back and i knew many were waiting for the PC. Luckily it’s group SKIDROW, so you know your in good hands. Anyway the game it self got pretty good review, ranging from 85% and above.
Setting out to do for co-op gaming what Counter-Strike did for team combat, Left 4 Dead is an ambitious survival horror game. Running on the Source engine, Left 4 Dead leaves four armed survivors of a world overrun with zombies, and they must fight their way out to escape the outbreak.
Designed for co-op play, the four players must work together to finish each stage of the game, lending each other artillery support, sharing ammo and rescuing each other when zombies are on top of them. In addition to the standard four players as humans, another four players can be amongst the masses of assaulting zombies, seeking to take down the other players. Zombie players might even find themselves become one of the four mutant “boss” zombies, who have unique powers that can be used to devastate, injure, tie up, mark and track, confuse, or even humiliate the gun-toting human survivors.

Good game! Bought the game and 50$ for a repetitive game like this is too much, but whadya gona do. Maybe I was waiting for something really REALLY good like HL2-ish coop game but meh.

there was a steam update on nov 21 that made online impossible unless you had a retail copy…. does anyone know if this version is playable online? The singleplayer is *ok,* but multiplayer is where this game really shines…

I’m hoping we have online or direct connection in this one, i might buy the game thou, but it is a little expensive. I want 3 copies for me and my bros.
FYI: TL release is in english does work and worked online till friday 21. So only Single Player now. Steam release.

Skidrow is the PC version and i tested and actually, u can make a BAT file asking the EXE to: connect IP:PORT i tried it like that, but still had issues.
Since the update, seems all online play is trought Valve Servers or Steam servers.
Big hopes to a NODVD Cr*cked and direct conection, my wishess go it might work.

UMMm noooo the game graphics are pretty average.
You can complete the entire solo campaign in about an hour.
It’s repetitive ”run and gun game play with nothing to do with ‘’survival horror” and feels like an arcade game.
It may be a bit of fun to play with mates but it really is nothing special.
The bonus Nazi Zombie level at the end of COD5 is more fun and better implemented than this piece of fluff…imho

Awesome game IHMO, altho without online capability it’s not worth it, the online part is what truly makes this game shine
Mosta you (TINy) won’t remember the old (& highly-original) 8-bit classics like Mr. Do, Donkey Kong, Bomb Jack, Qix, etc., etc. – some of the most _addictive_ games ever conceived of. That’s what brought us (TINu) back time & time (& time) again, ad infinitum. It’s why MAME is eternally popular.
If you (TINy) saw these most ancient of games today, you’d likely ‘Laugh Out Loud’(tm) or scream “THE GFX ARE SH1T!” Maybe so, but what they & their ilk had was playability – IN SPADES!
As does L4D.
The servers are currently rammed 24-7 & I guarantee this game will be played for ever – a la CS (1.6 _and_ Source) – & what are the graphics like in that?
Personally, i think the visuals are excellent. Down in the subway, with just a narrow torch-beam to navigate by, & you hear the witch sobbing gently nearby. Off with the torches & sneak by? Or go for it? Wake her in a darkened room & watch her jump into that tiny pool of light as she rakes your face with those vicious talons. Mommy will have to prise you down, gibbering, from the ceiling; either that, or change your pampers for ya. (j/k)
P.S. for those who were wondering – yes, there are 3rd-party servers up & running already.

Thats a very negative view. The graphics are average but the single player takes about 4 or 5 hours to play. Plus the CoD WaW bonus mission is lame in comparison. Im not sayin this game is brilliant but its worth a go.

If you guys are completing the game in an hour then you need to stop playing on girlpants mode and try advanced/expert… and get some friends to die online with you, muchos fun! I bought it after playing the demo, well worth it if you play for a challenge on a high difficulty setting.

This game should have been included in like a orange box again with the next half life 2 episode. not worth full price as a stand alone game.
This game is ok, more like an arcade shooter but nothing like a actual survivor horror. This wasn’t even a challenge either, I bought the game because I didn’t feel like downloading it. Basically if you kill too many zombies, the AI will kick in to bring in the large amount of zombies which ranges from 30-50 zombies. I can just take a shotgun and blow them a way when backed into a corner. This wasn’t worth the money, there’s only one cutscene. Also this game doesn’t do a good job of telling a story either, this is more of an arcade shooter like time splitters with zombies for enemies.

wrong, Alien Swarm is even more co-op hardcore than this. It’s much harder too. FF damage waaay higher.
Nice game, bought it for 45$ off steam because the online play is definitely worth it. This game is crap offline, but online cooperative play with friends/strangers and versus mode is challenging and fun. i usually dled crappy games(cough EA), and games with just good single player, but i am proud to support this great game and valve, ONE of the greatest developer and publisher out there imo. love steam. anyways the story is a bit lacking and only 4 campaigns for now, so waiting for content updates from steam. they are most likely going to support is as they do team fortress 2.
Honestly, all you guys complaining about the graphics obviously don’t realize that console games have had the same graphics for the past two years with little improvements. PC Games aren’t always about graphics, this game was designed to be a co-op multiplayer game you can replay again and again and Valve did that in spades.

You can play co-op with friends if you run your own Dedicated server and the cracked engine.dll file. You can get the missing dedicated server files from the demo and copy them across to your install.

if anyone has the LEFT_4_DEAD_STEAM_READNFO-TEST version of this game and is looking to just lan it here is the instructions on how to do it. works 100%
Hosting a game:
-Run steam with your new account.
-Start l4d. Go to options, mouse/keyboard, then enable the developer console.
-Start a single player game choose mission and start.OR press tilda “~” to bring up console, then type in map
(the console should show a list of available maps. either hospital, small town, airport, or farm) select the one you want and start the single player game.
-after game as loaded press Tilda “~” and type in “sv_lan 0″ as well as “sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0″
these two commands allow your game to be seen across lan and people to join via the connect command in console.
I know its weird to have sv_lan 0. but thats the value that has worked for me and my friends across both hamachi and lan.
Joining a game:
-Run steam with new account, start l4d.
-Options , mouse/keyboard, enable developer console.
-Go back to main menu. press tilda “~” type in Connect the Ip is either the hosts lan IP. or Hamachi given IP.

To play this game with friends who also download it, you can use the option to enable “developer console” in settings
Then use ` to bring down the console, the type “connect 0.0.0.0 ” (their ip)
They need to host a “local server” in the game settings of “play campaign” when they load you can connect
(also use name “name” in console to change your name)
any instructions how to play splitscreen on same computer

Too easy? The only thing I can say is that your not playing it on Expert, because there’s no way anyone would call that too easy.
In the full version expert mode is brutal.
… and btw, to the people who say this game costs too much… I can just say that I agree 100%. It’s a really great game but there’s still only 20 maps in there and for 50 bucks that’s not enough.

Ii don’t know about you, but I suffer from crashes in game while playing the Left 4 Dead Demo. Sometimes they are frequent and sometimes they are not. I searched the internet to find this is not an uncommon problem. Anyway I found a LEFT 4 DEAD DEMO CRASH FIX! It is as follows.
1) Enable the Console in options. Open the console and type:
mat_queue_mode 0
This tells the game to only use a single core of the processor, there is a bug in the demo that doesn’t like dual core.
2) In the Video Options change “Fullscreen” to “Windowed (No Borders)”
If you run at full resolution this will look exactly the same as fullscreen, no worries.
I honestly don’t know how number 2 helps the issue, but it does. I’ve tested every combination of these two fixes and they BOTH need to be done in order to get consistent non crashing.
I’ve got this working over LAN play by just using the Left 4 Dead dedicated server tool off of Steam. I’m not sure if it would work for computers behind 2 different NATs or firewalls, but I have 4 computers here at home, and I can get them all running through the ded. server. I just start up the server tool, choose the options I want, then I fire up the game itself. I instantly get a notification that 1 friend is playing on a dedicated server (which is just me, and it is basically telling me I have the tool open.) I just click on that notification, and then hit join game. Each subsequent computer that opens L4D will also see the notification, and can join the same way. The only thing is when the campaign ends, I have to use the console to manually switch to the first level of the next campaign.

I just had to uncheck the multicore CPU optimization in the options of the game to make it work correctly ( erratic sound and crash to desktop in about 5 minutes when ckecked )
I’ve fixed my problem of random crashing in Vista 64 bit, by disabling Multicore Rendering, and running in Windowed (No Border).
My problem is, that I have to change my settings to those EVERY time I run the game.
Can anyone help with which files/registry keys need to be edited, and how, to permanently alter the settings?
No particular problem to save permanently the choosen settings, but I’m running XP Pro !

For people who want to play split screen single players:
Search the valve forums for split screen and follow the instructions to modify your controller config file. After than you enable the console in option then enter these two commands; “ss_splitscreen 1″ and then “ss_enable 1″. After that just start a single player game and one of players will use the 360 controller =)

clean arhive, got backup file also. just copy engine.dll into game installation folder/bin/ and change the number in steamapp_id.txt to 501, and make the file read-only so that you dont need to change it everytime you restart the game.

Seriously this game *WOULD* be worth purchasing if it was only 30 bucks, but for only 4 scenarios and 5 primary weapons, i cant justify a 50 dollar pricetag. Reminds me of “Portal” or “Team Fortress 2,” where the game feels more like a multimillion dollar “teaser” than an actual finished commercial product. Theres a way to play online, go on http://www.garena.com (its a platform for mainly dota (wc3 mod) and u can play left4dead with reduce lag. (and can play online if u dont have steam;))

Guys, I'm trying to unzip using PowerArchiver 11.03.04 and I get a Bad CRC error on .r37… anybody got any info on that?
ok first of all looks like a good game but im gunna shell out my cash for a 360 version. secondly can ppl stop making it sound like COD 4 and COD WAW were made by the same ppl for a start COD WAW was made by sum s*** company who also made some of the other COD's not all bad but WAW just is crap in comparison to what infinity ward did with COD 4 and good news for everyone who is a fan of COD 4 infinity ward are bringing out there next COD soon so hopefully it puts WAW to shame aso they hinted that it will still be a Modern warfare game so im looking forward to it ill download this for pc to test before i shell ou cash for a 360 version im really interested in the multiplayer so hopefully i can run it on cracked servers
