I just wish whoever holds all the copyrights to Led Zep’s material would burn in hell, so that we can be spared re-releases of re-releases.

Nothing illogical. It’s a personal opinion. I find them over-rated. That’s all. I didn’t say I hated them. Like I said, it’s a bit like Hendrix. He was good at what he did, but people put him on a pedestal cos it was ‘hip’ to do so. Same with Cobain, Morrison, Marley and Elvis. – You don’t see constant re-releases of someone like Danny Gatton, even though no-one can touch him for diversity, virtuosity, improv etc. – Also, Stairway to Heaven is one of those songs that is so overplayed, it is painful to listen to it. Same as Bohemian Rhapsody. Great song…epic, even, but subject to overkill.

Now my ambivalence towards Zep is a personal opinion. I have nothing against their music per se., but what I do think is a load of rubbish is the fact that this is yet another samey compilation album, pretty much to tie in with their one night only gig/xmas sales. – Led Zep were great in the 70’s, but decided to fleece a mawkish fanbase by re-releasing the same old tunes over and over again.

If you love Led Zep…and I mean truly love them, then you will have the originals. Don’t just jump on a ‘Oh, everyone else thinks they’re cool, so I’ll force myself into them’ bandwagon. It’s OK to like the music you like, but it’s never cool to slag other people off cos they don’t like what you like. That is something I learnt very quickly as a musician.

If not your thing…fair enough….but it’s just silly to say they are overated as musicians….because they are some of the best of all time.

Mind you, you said the same about clapton and hendrix….so its a childish conversation.

I also applied for a ticket and wasn’t one of the lucky ones (you have to ask yourself how lucky it is that all the ebay touts seemed to get them?!) My only solice to this is the fact that even seeing them live now – you’re still not seeing Led Zeppelin live really as the band did stop when John Bonham died.. that is the point that the passion and the unified groove died also.. I’m sure Jason Bonham is a brilliant drummer but not a patch on his old man.

It’s a brilliant set throughout but Page doens’t half hit some wangers and lose the rhythm a few times..

So the time to see Zep live would have been in the 60’s or 70’s… but it kind of ends there.. Robert Plant looks a bit scary now – and he was at the height of Zep’s sucess, sex personified. (Squeeze my lemon!)
