Leaked PRE database? Calm down…

Well, well. There’s been some serious buzz when certain person not really well informed published an article about stolen or leaked pre database. You all probably know what the NFO file is so there’s no need to explain this. Pre databases are compilations of datas covering all scene releases in certain period used by people in the scene in IRC channels. There are many various predb’s, nothing like global and central one exists. Therefore, each database contains slightly different information. The one which was leaked is pretty lame though.

Leaked 50 MB file contains mysql dump of this database covering period from 1980–01–01 to 2007–07–07, which means something like 27 years and 2.6 million releases. It is actually over 1 year old and recent releases were added later by external script. As I said, the whole problem of this leak is the quality of this predb: it’s far from complete, containing incorrect release dates and incorrect filesize info. The NFO talks about GRIM.FANDANGO-DEViANCE as the very first release, which is complete non-sense, as this game was released by a completely different group. There are also many fake or missing releases and similar shit, so it’s not really worth the effort.

The archive contains also a few scripts which allows you to run your own bot, if you would eventually have the access to working predb (which is pretty much unprobable). These scripts are also very simple and almost not working though. Although everyone thinks how serious is this, the scene knows about this release for more than month and it didn’t wake up too many people from their chairs. Anyway, if you want to feel like a real 1337 scener and you have your own mysql database, you can try to install this predb and nostalgically search for few old releases…

    I like scene newz =)
    make more of it…

  2. August 12th, 2007 | 13:39

Anyways, what exactly is the point of this database? it’s only old info, right? I’d be a lot more interested if it could add new releases somehow, since I don’t have access to any pre-channels. I don’t know the last thing about this stuff so if someone could link some info about it I’d be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

  3. August 12th, 2007 | 13:44

ReelFiles: that was basically the idea of my post – what for do you even need this when it’s outdated. talking about the way of adding new releases, this is hardly possible for everyone outside (and often also inside) the scene, you would need to have really good connections…

  4. August 12th, 2007 | 13:59

Ok, thanks for confirming that, wasn’t sure if I misunderstood something. English isn’t my native language. How does one get access to one of those pre-channels anyway and what exactly is involved in setting it up? I am assuming it’s not exactly as easy as installing an irc client and just entering a channel name.

preDB’s is great Tool for sceners.. because they have rules about releases…

if you release first thing (first rls of that movie, first rls of game, first rls of mp3…) you get points and reputation..

much more first rls’s that not nuked.. and you group get a name….

all others is free to release dupes, but must add ‘internal’ note in name, because if they not their rls is marked/nuked as ‘dupe’…

preDBs is great for sceners to find if rls that they plane to release exist or not…… and other usefull infos…

I got this about a month ago and gave up after a while cause I had trouble setting up a mysql server. Extremely noobish I know. What is the easiest way to start viewing this database?

  7. August 12th, 2007 | 14:19

I am assuming there aren’t any publicly accessible PreDBs, right?

    first release…???
from good old BBS days…. who knows…
first groups start pushing releases in time of spectrumZX and C64/16/128 if not even older…

if you count scene from time when they start using internet this is ok, but scene is founded in pre-internet era…

and orlydb is one of public DB’s you can find some more too…
but this is not real preDB!

  13. August 12th, 2007 | 15:24

Thanks, I do use orlydb, but it’s rather lame. Nice post #8, real mature.

real preDB’s have detailed info about nuke history, they not count release age as date of releasing but as time that past from zero-time (when release appears)

also real preDBs have file count for every releases (how many splited/whole RAR’s or ZIP’s constain release….

    maybe a bit more….

i’m not part of scene just know some ppl that are… It’s not close enough relationship to give me access, but these guy always send some scene releases (older movies) to usenet, when i ask…

  15. August 12th, 2007 | 15:31

Well thank you, you helped me understand the process a lot better. Never got into usenet, I wouldn’t even know how to work it, lol.

lostart:even less! it is a list of validated scene releases.
what ppl should not mix up is the dupechecking network.
this is what takes care of whose release counts and which one doesnt reward you any kudos.

    Hi!!

I’m the “not really well informed” “certain person” who posted the article on TorrentFreak ;) When I saw your opening line I must admit I was terrified that I omitted some important facts or got something terribly wrong or that our Czech interpreter made some error. Imagine my relief after I read your post and discovered that i’d made no terrible errors and discovered no additional information. phew

Great site btw, I read it everyday. Unique and filling a gap in the news coverage for many – keep up the good work!

“if you would eventually have the access to working predb (which is pretty much unprobable)”

LOL! Everybody here isn’t as noob as the owners. There are still real sceners who don’t give a fuck about p2p bs.

I think it’s really funny to read news like this, where the author acts as if he was some leet scener, but instead he downloads his shit via bittorent and doesn’t have axx to any private dupecheck or topsite…

There r some sites better than orly but u have to find them by yourself.

@Real Scener, well all get a laugh out of people like you that don’t know shit, but come here pretending they do.

The fact is, you are illiterate, to be an editor here you need access to topsites or predb sites, or the very least a private tracker, which fuckoh, have the scene releases AS fast as they get put on the topsites.

If you want access to predb and release listing sites, you need to follow the source. Hell, I’m sure I could get everyone here access to a few pre sites, but why bother?

We have nothing to prove to anyone. We prefer to share and share alike, which is why the “sceners” that are here are using torrents not topsites.

And by the way, no one in the scene refers to themselves or anyone else as sceners.

scene irc channels are hard and find and harder to get into, your best bet is to find a site that has a group affil and work with them, thats how I got in and was running megadumpsites in no time.

There’s a reason that alot of posts here, well the timely ones, have all release nfo but no torrent. BECAUSE they are going from the prelists and topsites, the torrent gets added after it appears on public trackers.

But again, real scener, you’d need atleast a clue as to how bittorrent works, how this site operates, and how the scene works.

I’m not claiming to be part of the scene. I did run dump sites and irc network/channels for a long gone group, but never took an active roll, i provided space and bandwidth and accounts, and sat back and watched my drives get filled.
I know what I’m talking about and so do the editors, and surprisingly, most of the users here.

The fact is, torrents are better, less effort involved, and you don’t have to worry about some disgrunted asshole who BOUGHT his way onto the topsite narking the site out and leaking the admins real name.

This leak is nothing, means nothing, does nothing, big deal. I don’t think the people reading this understand what it is. It’s an sql database of releases going WAY BACK, this in no way shows you were to get it, it’s not sensitive information AND it’s full of omissions and errors.

  28. Real Scener
    August 13th, 2007 | 22:50

BS. There are a lot of release listing sites and predb listings who are public or semi-public, and to which a lot of people have axx. People who don’t even have axx to small group dumps or local hqs…

Hopefully, kiddies like those who know only torrents and nothing else will never be able to to be part of the scene. All they can do is download a torrent and open it.

Great, no curry needed anymore, that’s good for us too, but please, stop pretending to be part of the scene or whatever. Stop acting as if you have any private axx. The guys who run this site, ase those who leech of it don’t have anything to do with the scene, they just spread releases but don’t know nothing about scene grps.

lol i found an autotrade channel with addpre and nuke with no +s and no channel key

  30. AgingHippieLiberalDouche
    August 14th, 2007 | 17:50

Q its not a real addpre channel you moron, it just echoes what it gets from other addpre channels, the commands themselves dont work (you cant even type anything, if your talking about the channel i think your talking about). The channel is there for pre-bot owners are people wishing to run them as they can use this channel to feed their bots!

And Martin, I know you are stuff here but you are a fucking newbie. QUOTE FROM MARTIN:
talking about the way of adding new releases, this is hardly possible for everyone outside (and often also inside) the scene, you would need to have really good connections…

You don’t actually need “connections”, all you need is access to a pre channel and you can find these very easily and you can echoe everything from there or get access to an addpre channel and thats also fairly easy (I was talking about a public one a few lines up)

SO SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU WANNABE SCENERS

  31. August 14th, 2007 | 18:26

Blah Blah Blah, all the staff are newbies, blah blah, the staff are wannabe sceners blah blah…

You dont know the staff or the connection we have or do not have with the scene… The comments on this post have run there course as people pretending to be sceners post crap and people i hope are not sceners post crap. Especially the wannabe scener going by the nname of AgingHippieLiberalDouche…

FACT: If you use this site (and i can see most of you do visit often) and then bash it you are as lame as you claim the staff and this site to be.

LOCKED! Have a nice day :D
