Yes it's true Ubuntu just made M$oft a little more scared of the Nix name. Wait till Apple unleashes Leopard but if you want Vista + Leopard together just do what Bill & Steve does get Ubuntu.

Yeah, Ubuntu and Debian are great.
We are alle happy that Microsoft made Vista to destroy there own company. Its huge, slow and expensive if you only want to type text, e-mail and surf on intetnet. Windows is nice as a game box. Microsoft admit their fault in the Xbox, now they have to admit that other fault: Windows. I'm working with Ubuntu since 5.04
By the way, WINE stands for: Windows interpreter Not an emulater.

It tends to boil down to what, your critical apps are, I'm lucky Furcadia, my most critical app runs under wine nicely. I've been running Ubutu for 12mths on my laptop, ever since the recovery partition for XPsp2 on my Acer Aspire 1644WLMI, some how corrupted and Acer told me that it would be an hundred dollars to restore, plus I would of had to mail my laptop away to do it. No way hozay! (yes I made the default recovery cd first time I booted the laptop and thats corrupted also) [How can companys sell broken software and then tell you its an feature not an bug?]

My top ten resons for not going back to buggy windows;

1. It secure and stable.
2. Whats spyware and viruses (omg I dont need norton eating up all my resourses)
3. It just works!
4. I have an working 3d rotating desktop, that dosnt slow down my pc.
5. It reconises my palm TX and my sony erricson mobile phone (under xp I had to spend ages installing driver disks, it be nice if vista worked out the box)
6. Productivity is up and ever increasing.
7. Easy to install comercial apps like Nero linux.
8. Wow with network manager I can access hotspot easy with my wireless! (no more having to use painfull win2k machines at the Library)
9. Its free.
10.Sharing printers is easy.

2 things Id like to see improve.

1) Better support for winmodems. (yes tried Linmodems, but it not worked, its not perfected yet, give it time)
2) Companys like E-bay to make their free software tools available to linux users not just windows.

Over all I cant see my self really buying windows ever again, thankyou. :)

Soulsizzle: Most versions of Photoshop work wonderfully under WINE or Crossover Office.

And for everyone bitching about games aside from running many popular games under WINE, the number of free & commercial native games for linux is increasing every day. Here's a few links for ya:

If none of you can find anything to occupy your time amoung this huge collection then you should just stick with windows and leave us the fuck alone.

Anon:
Not all of us play games or just use game console (I consider Windows to be a game console too :)). Nvidia and ATi release their own drivers (ATi ones suck ass but that's another story) and in many benchmarks they're faster than Windows ones. Recently published benchmarks (using Enemy Territory) on Phoronix show that running games through Wine/Cedega is faster than on Windows Vista anyway. The speed varies but the performance hit from using Wine is not significant, I've seen games perform better emulated on Linux.

"I dono why youd bother with this… Seems like a stupid waste of time to be honest!"

Yes, a secure, fully-featured operating system is a waste of time.

If you ask me, there are a million reasons why Linux is better than Windows. And only two reasons why Windows is better than Linux: games and Photoshop.

Would gladly move to Linux if there was more support with it in the commercial industry. Such as more applications and games made FOR linux. >.> currently sorry to say but Windows STILL owns linux >.> No offence.

There is wine and all of those which emulate the Windows environment, however games just dont run as fast. Therefore ya basically gimping ya system. Ya could buy the fastest graphics card to play a game, but it could only perform as fast as a the 2nd fastest graphics card since its gimpped in Linux. Since the game cannot run without windows emulation
