Three US remakes premieres in one night. All of them garbage.

The thing that made K & K a success in AU was the total bogan/80’s-esque approach to the show.
With all the ‘Australianisms’ and Aussie culture thrown into it, converting that into a US hit is going to be a tough act to follow.
I’ll still check it out though to see how what they did to it (even though I never watched the original AU series back home)

Eww…now I have to know this exists?
I’m aussie and i freakin’ hated our version…this will almost certainly be at least the 3rd most unpleasant show ever released

when will they learn? apart from the US version of the office none of these remakes of comedy shows from other countries have been successful; fawlty towers, red dwarf etc all stank and they all died kath and kim is totally australian humor a direct remake would never rate in the US nobody would get the jokes so they would have to keep the same characters and setting but rewrite all the dialogue why not just make a new show and be done with it?

they should have used rednecks to portray kath and kim at least

The Australian version is hilarious.. good pisstake on Aussie humour. Everyone in Australia knows at least one person who resembles someone on the show.

Unfortunately I dont hold high hopes for the US version.. but i’ll give it a watch anyway.
    Thanks for the links everyone.

Hell, I saw it live and thought it was plenty damn funny!
Both characters are dead-on parodies of a bratty kid and the enabling mom.

    Thanks for the post.

It’s unreal you know … not since pretty much the 80’s, with the plethora of good comedy sitcoms back then, has America come up with many things original.
They’d rather copy and morph other success stories into a warped version of what they think will fly.
For example, American TV couldn’t stand the fact that the Iron Chef was a ratings winner in Japan, they had to copy that to America and botch it up entirely trying to bluff their way through the King of the Kitchens where it lost all of the uniqueness and flavour of that format under a sea of Americanisms, gung-ho kitchen hijinks and borish Americanisms … they then grab Gordon Ramsay to ‘Americanise’ Hells Kitchen and bugger it up too .. now, they grab what is uniquely (for better or worse) an Aussie show with humour and satire based purely on an Australian way of looking at things, and hope it’ll fly there.
The result is a forgone conclusion - utter garbage in American form.

    Oh here we go again….

Americans taking something successful from another country and completely ruining it….

You cant translate such deeply rooted cultural humour to a country like america…which believes it is the only country on our earth

  18. Mitchell
    October 10th, 2008 | 08:03

Why America..WHYY! You cannot take the outer city melbourne “boganism” of late 80s and early 90s and place it into The United States, it just does NOT fit, that sort of “boganism” is only found in australia…(yes im talking about you Armadale, WA;)

If you cant think of an original idea yourself, dont just hop in the back of the truck and ride the success of another.

    Shame on you NBC!

@18 get over it. We know you are Australian. All you cry babies acting like you’re the first and only Australian to ever post a message on the internet. Yes the US version of Kath and Kim will suck…anyone with half a brain could predict that. Stop making such a massive whoo ha about it.

    ——————-
That’d be the only way they could translate the humour. Just not going to work. The original is an ‘aquired’ taste anyway.

@22 - Jimbo Jones, if you actually had an original thought and knew what you were talking about, then you would have made sense.
But you don’t, and you didn’t - which rules you out as adequately equipped to post a comment due to being an idiot.
Go crawl back into your hole.

Dear oh dear…hickey dude I was referring to the above posts. I suggest you re-read my post. The people who had commented before were acting completely stupid, banging on and on about how they are Australian. Yes I am Australian to, but it makes no difference. THe fact is the tv show sucks.

Many shows started in the US have also been tried in other countries. Mad Men is currently being sold to multiple European countries. As well as a Sunny in Philly.

Both are top shelf. Sunny is uniquely American.
