Judas Priest - Nostradamus (2008) [2CD]

WHOOOO!!! My favorite release thus far! Just out today, I give you Judas Priest’s Nostradamus. I’m a huge fan of JP and I can’t wait to see the show in my town late April. This album hauls ass. Think classic JP, add some symphony-type stuff (metal focused) and turn it up. Not much more can be said. Pretty standard release, 2CD with fairly high VBR. Enjoy! I know I will.

Nostradamus is a forthcoming concept album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, focusing on the 16th century prophet Nostradamus. The band’s first concept album, it was originally intended to be released in late 2006 before being pushed to a 2007 release, and now, according to the official website, is set to be released on June 16th 2008 on Epic records. Musically, the album will contain symphonic orchestrations including the use of keyboards and choirs which will be unlike anything the band have previously attempted before. Nostradamus centers around the life and times of the prophet. The first disc details various prophecies he has about the future and the end of the world. This leads to him being exiled. Later on, after his death, the world realizes just how right he was.

Thanx, always like em, acdept when they went thru that screaming thrash sound, for heavy metal. NO better.
Saw them live backed up by Iron Maiden 1982. Screamin for Vengeance, and Number of the Beast. Made the year.

@2 they never went anywhere, it’s just the pitiful North American music scene that focuses on flavour of the week that’s the real problem. JP has been on tour forever, just like Iron Maiden (yeah, Up The Irons, scream for me Hammersmith!!).

I almost feel bad downloading this but then again, it’s not even remotely CLOSE to the CD quality and you don’t get the booklet or get to support the metal maniacs CD sales.
Check out teh download but go buy the damn disk!

I’m not too sure about the current Priest stuff, but I’ve recently been going back to the good days of Hell Bent, POE, Vengeance, Unleashed, etc.. Man, these guys were so great live back then. For me, Screaming for Vengeance was the end of the line, and I moved on to other bands, but I may have missed some classic stuff by doing so.

I’ll give this a spin just to hear the metal god Halford blow my mind one more time.

Believe it or not, i was just driving home listening to Screaming for Vengeance - Riding on the Wind followed by The Bloodstone and here I get on and see this! Kick…

But I must admit I haven’t liked anything from priest after 1985 when their last great album Defenders of the Faith came out. Anything afterwards was bad but Painkiller was ok.

I have heard several songs from this album off YouTube and it is horrible! Not even worth the download, sorry to say.

You know, the year that good music was replaced with pure crap (excepting SRV, Prince, Talking Heads, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sonic Youth, and very few others). All hail the might MTV. Or not.

    @29

dont you realize that people just have their own tastes? I know there are some universal truths, such as CCR…of Led Zep….but honestly Echo & the bunnymen? Thats proof right there- people like what they like- but dont go around spewing “the law” as far as the ONLY good bands there EVER were- and putting some time-stamp as 1984 as the expiration of ‘good music’….geez… grow up.

A few SINCE 1984: (no particular order)

    Amebix
    Nirvana
    The Coup
    Tchkung!
    Hellcrusher

    June 12th, 2008 | 07:14

Oh, relax m0 before you blow a fuse. Grow up? That’s something that’s said mostly by people that are having trouble with it themselves.

I never said that the year was the end of good music, now did I? I was speaking specifically of the period of music, and of the year 1984 directly. Just take a look at the releases that year and you might get what I am referring to. It was just a tongue-in-cheek example of the effects of commercialism (MTV. Heard of it?).

Yeah, Echo & the Bunnymen’s album Ocean Rain came out in ‘84, and it had an arguably huge impact on music as it was at the time (changing dramatically), and on a ton of bands that followed. Heard of The Killing Moon and/or Silver? They’re classic songs from the year, and they hold up very well to today’s music.

In fact, all of the bands/musicians I mentioned held up well over time (of course that’s in my opinion, but do I really need to tell you that I’m not speaking FOR you so you don’t get offended? wow). All had quality releases* in that specific year, and remain large influences on the music you hear today. Maybe a bit more than say, Rick Springfield.

*That’s based on my opinion, and that of the majority of critics and people who were into the music scene at the time. That’s why I chose them as representatives of the year.

“dont go around spewing “the law” as far as the ONLY good bands there EVER were”

Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. Whatever.

@defiant one, while I commend your metal dedication, why not Les Binks, he kept better time, double kick or not.

as for Holland:He is currently in prison for attempted child rape of a teenage boy. [1] A jury found Holland guilty of one charge of attempted rape and five counts of indecent assault of a teenage boy who was taking drum lessons at Holland’s house.

    Niiiice!

Scott Travis has proven himself now too and really fits well with their newer sound.

This album is really awful, just got through listening to it.

Alone is the best song, but not that great, and a few cool musical tunes. Halford just sings really bad, and the whole sound and structure is just so dated.

So Holland is in Prison for attempted rape of a child huh? Well from what I have heard about child rapists and prison, one does not survive long in there if you did that so we may never see him again or if we do he may have to take 60 doses of Imodiem and wear adult diapers just to keep his sh%t inside till he gets to the bathroom.

As for Halford. If you didnt know he was a “crotch nosher” the very first time you saw him, then there is something wrong with you. But that does not take anything away from his talents as a singer.

And you are right, they went downhill after Screamin for Vengence (Livin after Midnight-You got another thing Comin)

No matter, but do they know how burkin poofy they look still wearing leather at 60+ years old? Take some of your money and buy you some decent clothing for your age for cripes sake. Makes you just as sick to see them do this as it would to see a 90 year old trying to walk around in a string bikini.

“Halford just sings really bad, and the whole sound and structure is just so dated.”

Halford sings with the same, well structured, operatic vocals he had when Priest first became known. Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin after Sin, you need to pick up some early Priest, my friend.

As for being dated, it is a concept album, you don’t seem to get the whole concept of such a project.
Nostradamus lived from 1503 to 1556, how do you write a concept album based on events 500 years ago without it sounding dated? In fact, I think that’s the whole concept here, operatic vocals, heavy orchestral sounds etc.

If you are one of those people who thinks Painkiller defines JP, then you need to learn the back catalogue.

If you are looking for more growl metal, such as Painkiller or Rob’s stint with Fight, TWO and Halford, then you’ll have to wait for his solo work.

If you are one of those who think the more commercial I’m a Rocker, Turbo and Parental Guidance truly defines Priest, then again, buy the back catalogue.

This isn’t St. Anger, sorry, you just come across as a kiddie metal fan.

I was 15 when I first saw Priest, and my family wasn’t prone to prejudiced, so it wasn’t even a thought. IMO, the people with the problems are those that publicly judge and label others out of insecurities/fears, miseducation, and the worst of all, learned hated.

FYI: Living After Midnight is on British Steel, not SFV.

You are talking down to me? The guy who has a complete 6 song digital video copy of Judas Priest opening up for AC/DC in Japan on the Stained Class album?

This is pre leather my friend, Rob has a kimono on.

I have yet to upload this extremely rare video to YouTube, but I assure you I will.

I have every single album, yes album, and cd from priest. I have some rare demo’s too, I have seen them and fight collectively 12 times, I was even at in LA when Rob sang for Black Sabbath.

So don’t tell me anything about what priests sound is. This album is on par with Turbo.

“As a musician, I think it is irrelevant to me. It exists and it is out there and no matter what I try and do about it, it will always be there. I don’t mind kids trading tapes, that’s totally cool. Videos are cool too. They only add to the live show. A kid might show that to some of their friends and they might think that we are cool and might come out and see us next time.

The reality is that an artist has to have a record go gold, before they are even going to see a dime. Bands put out 3 or 4 records on a label and never see a dime from record sales. So, it is not like people who are downloading would be putting a dollar in my pocket if they would have bought the record. The industry is set up so that the record company will immediately get paid from record sales. So…download all you want!!!

I think that the internet has changed the record industry and will continue to do so. The record labels will find some way to make money. I think that the artists main concern is to concentrate on their live performance and be the best artist that they can”.
