Group FRAGMENT which is often releasing older movies as internals released a new dvdrip of an American movie Journey From The Fall. This drama is actually more Vietnamese than American, almost all actors are Asian and the language skips between English and Vietnamese as well. This war story received numerous movie awards and keeps a very good rating from critics (92% at RT), so it might be worth watching.
April 30, 1975 marked the end of Vietnam’s two-decade-old civil war and the start of the exodus of hundreds of thousands of refugees. Despite his allegiance to the toppled South Vietnamese government, Long Nguyen (as Long Nguyen) decides to remain in Vietnam. Imprisoned in a Communist re-education camp, he urges his family to make the escape by boat without him. His wife Mai (Diem Lien), son Lai (Nguyen Thai Nguyen) and mother Ba Noi (Kieu Chinh) then embark on the arduous ocean voyage in the hope of reaching the U.S. and freedom.

can anyone explain me the advantages of x264 formats, will a 720p HDDVD x264 rip be better quality than the “normal” orignal dvd9?
can this superior quality (if its the case) be preserved when converting the HD-rip to dvd? what programs do you use or is that non-sense, and the best way to watch these files is still the PC?

We Americans should listen closely to ALL of the criticism that we get. Without the European’s (and especially and totally the French), there would be no America.
I happen to know for sure that no one in the States wanted world leadership before Pearl Harbor, and then it was thrust on us… us, who where totally unprepared, and are still stumbling badly.

You see Denny, I think that being an American is not something that depends on where you are born. Being an American, a true American, is a state of mind and spirit. Any jackass can be born here by chance, wave the flag and feel powerful under the wings of an F-15 or behind a Minuteman ICBM. But it takes a special kind of person to love liberty beyond any threat or fear and cling to those things even when your enemies surround you. Those rare kind of people, those true Americans, can be born anywhere, on any country, under any faith and be of any color or gender and not even live here. To me, those are the true Americans, even if they don’t know it, because they love liberty just like our forefathers did, and they cannot be intimidated to give up those freedoms.
But most people that share this country with me, that say that they are “proud” of being Americans, those people have no idea of what being a real American is. So I think most of them do not deserve to be here, but are here just because due to chance, this was the place where they were born.
I want every so-called “American” to witness what’s happening in this country, how “Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset.”

I’m intrigued how the hijacking of a continents name by the United States and its people, came to be equated with the notions of ‘liberty’ and ‘freedom’ extolled by Wah.

What would life be like if Christ had not come and Christianity had not spread throughout the world? It would most likely be much different, of which we all can agree, not just in terms of everything but in specific, the ideas of western civilization. Although Greece gave western civilization much art, philosophy and literature, and Rome provided law and government, it was the Christian worldview that provided the basis for modern science, efforts to alleviate poverty, universal education, and the ideals of equality and liberty enshrined in the documents of the many governments. If you want to go further back than the English Civil Wars, according to the Christian perspective, the God of order and beauty provided for the view that nature was predictable and orderly. The Christian belief that all humanity is a creation of God gave a foundation to the self-evident truth of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Since people are made in the image of God they are valuable apart from their station of life, amount of wealth, or utility to society. People are helped, educated, and protected simply because they are made in God’s image. Finally, from a historical perspective, loss of these Christian ideals would undoubtedly be a tragic loss to the well-being of humanity. Could you explain otherwise?
Erm… I think you’ll find that the English civil wars were actually fought because of ‘religious’differences.. Christianity in fact… And the English civil wars then directly influenced the War of Independence.. again because of religion.. The British Parliament called it the Prestbytarian war in fact. The USA was never founded upon ‘democratic’ principle, liberty or any of that guff. It was never fought for representation or because of taxation. It was fought because Presbytarians feared the English crown would limit their freedom of worship…..

@ Gabriel - I apologize if I omitted other important details that the English Civil wars over Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church played a major vital role in shaping western civilization, but I’m looking at it from the bigger picture here. Although your point is valid in every respect, it does not negate my point as much as my point negates yours. Thanks for insights anyway.

It may appear to you that what I’m saying is Christianity peacefully became the basis for western civilization, but it seems to me that western civilization was never based on Christianity, rather, after the ‘religious wars’ surrounding Christianity of which I agree with your valid point, it simply adopted certain virtues that is based on the ideas of Christianity, and that is not to say that USA is based on those virtues at all. Nonetheless, today we can clearly see the evidence that Christian virtues influenced USA, ‘at least on paper’, whether it had to go through religious wars or not, and that without it, western civilization would be at a tragic loss of those virtues. Alternatively, western civilization, including that of England and Australia, could have adopted Russian or Islam virtues.

I speak of Greece and Rome not as countries, but as empires in the sense that they influenced outside borders. They, including Christianity, historically preceded the Roman Catholic Church. In fact, to your point surrounding the Roman Catholic Church, it is the product of Christianity and Rome (Christian religion + Roman law/govt. = Roman Catholicism). You should also know that Christianity, Rome and Greece existed before the Roman Catholic Church and that Roman Catholicism formed out of a European society that was already influenced by the preceding ancient and present modern empires of Greece and Rome, respectively, and was beginning to feel the effects of Christianity’s presence. Only after then could you present your argument, where the Roman Catholic Church became a tool in shaping Europe and the West even further.

@ robespierre - Actually, Gabriel just made a point, of which I agree with, that a nation’s national history does include a dark past as well. I apologize if I’m embellishing a nation’s history from a positive perspective. I agree it’s important, as a whole, when we discuss history, that history should be told by both ‘light’ and ‘dark’ angles, whether by one, two or more persons.

wah. VirtualDubMod does not accept the format of the subtitles contained within the download and sub2ssa does not recognise the .sub file. How do we change the format to ssa or srt to suit VirtualDubMod ?
