    Hmmm maybe good.
I have outpost mainly because of the inbuilt spyware detection and such. Don’t really need software firewall when I have hardware. It is mainly just for when I want to stop a virus (which I never get) from accessing the internet and other things I may like to restrict.

But… One thing I know for sure.

    Transformers.2007.DVDRip.XviD-FLAiTE.

    Has been released.
And now, I halt all of my downloads. WHAHA! >_

I used to work with a guy who used a win95 machine as a firewall on the basis that no-one was developing attacks geared towards such an old os

Jetico is one of the best, when it comes to leak tests
(matousec DOT com - / projects / Windows PF analysis / Leak-tests results)

It’s hard to configure, but if you want a highly sophisticated PF and want to define rules in every nut, bolt and screw - jetico should be your choice!

+ They have a very good support forum

i went from zone alarm to the freeware version of this a while back and have been very happy useing it …. i think zone alarm has gone right downhill over the past year especially where bit torrent is concerned for me i kept finding the vsmon kept crashing and giving errors and since useing jetico my torrent speeds have gone back to what they used too be

This is a pretty good firewall. High ratings in almost all areas.

That said…like almost all the firewall apps out there today, it’s too heavy on resources for me. I want something that does it’s job, but doesn’t suck the life out of my rig doing it.

I’ve tried all the top available firewalls, and for my needs at present, there’s no better choice than Outpost. It’s constantly rated highly, does it’s job well, and isn’t a resource hog.

comodo is number 1 by far and has proven so continuously through leak testing since version 2, another added bonus is that it is freeware, Jetico however has this version and a freeware version, this version ranks second only to comodo and the freeware version is in the top ten, these test were rather extensive and heavily documented if you would like to check the results out for yourself or the entire documentation please go to http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php#firewalls-ratings
that link takes u directly to the final ratings chart, however u can scroll up or down to find the ratings and actual responses from the developers of each firewall and what extensive test were performed

    September 21st, 2007 | 14:50

Yeah.. it’s a good FW… even the free version is a good choice.
However as a free firewall, Comodo is the BESTS!

i just changed to this firewall and it works pretty well, however i do find that there are way to many alerts and popups. with comodo i had the CPU usage bug where it was constantly using 70%+ of my CPU while browsing.

@15 : “jeticos currently useing 15mb ram on my computer id hardly call that a resource hog”

I’m happy for you. DL some torrents and tell me it stays at 15mb. ;)

I tried Jetico because of the reviews it got…and it pinned my cpu at 100%, and ate up my ram whenever I used bittorent.

Everyone has a different system and runs different programs. If you like Jetico and it works for you, that’s fine. But it’s a resource hog on mine, whether or not you agree…so I don’t use it.

And not to call you out, but from your spelling and punctuation…it’s likely that your reading the numbers incorrectly anyway, and all you have free is 15mb.

The interface of this one looks clear and the size it’s ok - probably unbloated.
One of the best software firewalls is sygate personal firewall pro 5.5 build 2710.

Took an “old hp pentium 3 w/ 256 megs or ram, installed smoothwall and 2 nics……tada computers cost $30, and the smothwall is FREE 2 nics paying around. Cant beat that IMO

Smoothy has now a new version that allows you to use wireless nics too

    Good firewalls -

    Comodo
    Agnitum Outpost
    Sygate Pro
    Kerio
    Jetico
    LooknStop

    Bad firewalls -

    Zone Alarm
    Anything by Symantec

The best firewalls are dedicated hardware firewalls:

    IPCop
    Smoothwall

I’ve been using TINY Firewall Desktop Pro 6.5.126 for 2 years and 3 months. I’m very Happy with it:

Firewall, IDS/IPS, Sandbox, Windows Security, Registry Security. That’s my TINY.

Excellent protection out-of-the-box. The very first to pass PCFlank leak test out-of-the-box.

What is the point? Windows has a built-in firewall, and nearly ALL routers have a hardware firewall too.

I tried Jetigo - and found it to be nice at first, but after about a week of use it “out-learned” itself. It “learns” as you do stuff - but it eventually learns so much that it can’t handle the load - and becomes useless, and unstable. I wen’t back to old school - Sygate, and haven’t had an problems since.

I used the Outpost / Nod32 combination for a long time - until Outpost became the incompatible bloatware it is now. I had enough with it being suddenly incompatible with Nod32 - and a lot of other programs - tring to be the “all in one” instead of sticking to firewalling (even the “Firewall pro” version does it - just not as much as the other. So Nod32 stays - andOutpost can hang out.. at the… post.???
