Jesus Camp is a very interesting documentary which starts out like a usual documentary. But as you go threw the documentary you’ll slowly find out that this documentary is an anti-Christian documentary. I’m sure it wasn’t meant to look like that but it really does. This documentary was almost as scary as An Inconvenient Truth! Allow me to explain: This movie sets out to be a documentary about a bible camp. However, this is no ordinary bible camp at all. The Christians that let their Children go there are insane, because these children are being told that they are soldiers and that they need to make this world a better place. What does that mean? The Crusades. Some fat bitch is brain washing children and their parents in a way that frightens me, a lot. I suggest you check this out, especially if you live in a western country. I’d give it a 7.6/10.

there isn’t anything directly wrong with this movie, in america there are alot of evangelion groups and this documentary only shows the most extreme things that they do.
Gkats: i have no idea what ya up about, maybe you have just have had bad experience which religion in the past, i really don’t see whats wrong, so the woman is a little extreme in a few actions but she never actually preatches anything wrong in the movie. Don’t be so damn judgemental about people’s beliefs. this is as parochial a view on science and “free thinking” as it is of muslims and homosexuals that you mention. free thinking is not a sect nor a movement nor a heritage. you cannot trace it back to “a few people”. it is in fact solitary: you clear your head of all pre-conceived notions and biases and start with that. it is philosophical in the way of descartes. “free thinkers” distinguish tradition and what can be found out on one’s own. they start out logically and if they do make a “leap of faith” (kierkegaard) they embrace religion, or at least a supernatural or supreme being. those that don’t remain atheists or choose to be agnostic. let’s face it, god does not manifest himself in obvious and non-esoteric situations unlike your tv or computer, which are based on science by the way. in short, your view on science is equally limited, inaccurate and misrepresented as others’ view on muslims and homosexuality. science is a method, not a religion. we start with hypotheses and test those facts repeatedly with experiments. if even one experiment goes haywire and the experiment is accurate and credible, the hypothesis is demolished entirely. this is how we build theories, and how we make scanning tunneling microscopes that survey the surfaces of atoms (yes, we do see them). and uh, force is a mathematical artifact anyway, and your neglect of this demonstrates again my point.
another important characteristic of science is prediction. darwin constructed a theory which flied in the face of even the scientific community during his time. but however weird and contradictory his theory was, he was able to predict many things (like organisms in certain places having certain physical traits and physiological attributes, in accordance to the ecology they live in). this is also the case in quantum mechanics, where we find out in the atomic level that the world is not deterministic at all. why do we still adopt this? because it works and predicts. it is, after all, why you have a computer at all (semiconductors etc).

frankly i think this is a great documentary. it just makes me sad that the moat avid devotees are so young, so young. it depresses me, and in the end, i very much feel like the children were in a way exploited.

Sure, freedom of thought, religion and all that is cool – but children should be children wherever they are. And this lady in the film is not letting children be children – she’s training them to be fanatics by brainwashing them with concepts they can’t even understand. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs and their own stupidities – but exploiting kids for your own agenda is just disgusting. Children simply believe whatever adults tell them.
And although the whole thing is very sad, there’s one thing that’s even more tragic. By raising them so fanatically at such a young age kids are forced to develop some childish fairy tale in order to fit their parents’ world view onto that little life experience they have. So not only do they stop being normal children and start taking themselves too seriously too early – but they also never become true Christians because the way they see Christ and the Bible turns into something more like paganism or idolatry. It’s an autodestructive society that lets its kids (and therefore its own future) to be manipulated like that. I don’t know who in their right mind can support burdening a 7-year-old with stories about abortion (of course, conveniently forgetting to mention anything about the way babies are made in the first place) or making them feel guilty simply for dancing for fun. It makes me sick.
i’m sorry, but religions that claim to be the only true way to believe (probably most of them) are just bullshit. if they work for you, cool, but guess what, it takes a lot less than what they’re doing in this movie to put a person in therapy for the rest of their life.

You are refering to “The Lady Hope Story,” published in 1915. The story goes that on his deathbed, Darwin converted to Christianity. This is not true. His family quickly refuted this story, as do most historians.

The problem I have with ‘Jesus Camps’ or similar, is that kids don’t have the opportunity to freely judge the world and have a personal view of it, without having a preset agenda.
I myself was brought up as atheist, without my parents saying that religion was wrong or stupid – it was left up to me.
If you want to become religious in your teens or as an adult, then fine – as long as you’ve had a chance to live life for a while and can make an informed decision.
Most modern religious conflicts (for example: catholic – protestant in N Ireland, jewish – muslim in Palestine, hindu – seikh in Indian continent) have very little chance of subsiding due to every new generation being indoctrinated into the hardcore religious agenda of their parents.
This means they are virtually born with an indiscriminate hatred of their religious ‘enemy’, without having a chance to see them as human beings. This philosophy is then passed to their children in turn.

Wow. Seems like my review stirred up the hive. Personally I have nothing against Christians, however I hate Christianity. As well as the Islam. Jews are starting to look very much like Christians and Muslims nowadays, which is a bad thing. The only religion I have no problems with are the Asian religions. The Chinese never had any Buddhist Crusades or Jihad’s. The Christians and Muslims did. Christianity and the Islam are evil because they’ve always been at war with each other. Muslims tend to take things even more extreme by attacking Buddhists and Jews too.
Religion is all about politics, economy and power. If the pope would encourage… No. ORDER all Christians to attack Muslims, a lot of them would. Why? Because God told the pope to tell them to do so. Muslims would do the same. Buddhist would never even think of killing (innocent) people just because they have a different religions.
My point here is that this movie only confirms everything we all know is true. And soon most western countries will be cleansed of Christianity because when you look at the rate in which the number of believers is decreasing in West-Europe, it’s not that strange to think of us being the first part of the world to exist solely out of people who think for themselfs.
Believe in what ever you want to believe, but the truth is right here. You don’t have to BELIEVE in the truth while religion requires you to have a lot of faith in a holy book.
kevin, i agree. i don’t hate the abrahamic religions per se; i do respect them but there are entries that make me uneasy (esp. the qur’an and some parts of the tanakh– if taken literally). likewise i revere the eastern religions primarily their beliefs are very personal. all of them encourage meditation and respect/love of other people and nature. the first is to achieve unity with the universe, which encourages harmony rather than discord (like violence). to demonstrate the second, in india there are numerous sects of hinduism, none of them vying to be the one and only or supreme hindu order. there is great emphasis on respect of all people and no mention of meting out punishment on nonbelievers. you might have heard of the jainists who can’t even kill insects. karma is also a strong and positive force.
a notable thing about eastern religions is that life is cyclical (time is circular), so there is no finality as in the western (abrahamic) ones. there is an afterlife but everything still depends on what we’ve achieved in the mundane life. there is also the matter of personal salvation as goal in western religions, whereas unity with the universe in eastern ones. another thing is, in at least one eastern religion (buddhism), the world is inherently miserable and we have to break out of it to achieve peace. in western religions, we’ve sunk into a decadent age from an antediluvian, innocent, plush paradise.
another thing to note is that not all eastern religions are theistic. buddhists are atheists, hindus vary from monists to dualists to pantheists and even atheists, shintoists are animists and confucianists meld well with people of other religions because it is more ethical than religious.
i am an atheist myself (convinced that choosing to be agnostic is defeatist), but i’m open to all religions, if only in awe of what the human and the human condition can do. e.g. the question of the very existence of a supreme being has certainly caused great buzz in philosophy, another great human enterprise

Kaj – the problem with your argument(?) is that, as with a lot of god-botherers, it sounds like you’ve read these statements from a leaflet or manual. It just doesn’t sound like you have came to these conclusions by free thought, but rather ‘as advertised by your local church’.
I recently attended my grandmother’s funeral and the minister, instead of using the eulogy to tribute and celebrate my grandmother’s life, decide to use it as a 20 minute propaganda session for his god, jesus and the church.
I think he mentioned her 3 times in the whole sickening thing, which left all of my family and many others extremely angry. If my father had not decided to say some words about her afterwards, her family’s chance to say goodbye would have been completely ruined.

In the first place I think everyone has the right to have a religion and the choice to have one should be respected by another. Which also comes down to the fact everyone has the right Not to believe. Im not a science nerd, who needs data, proof and what not. But to me it is only logic that nothings out there (some aliën life maybe). No GOD or ALLAH or whatnot has created earth, it was a fact of the universe. If you want to believe the universe has set out a plan for each soul on earth, sure, I guess there is. There are still lots of things which can’t be explained. BUT! That is only because I think we can not explain em yet and perhaps we never will. The people thinking of all these stories which turned to be religions are probably laughing there asses of up above, that was if there was something in the afterlife. Thinking of there being nothing out there after you die freaks me out, though it seems fairly logic. All things come to an end, just accept that. Keep striving to please God in all you do, always remember to ask forgiveness for your sins, and study his word and live by it–and if you havent already, memorize it! there will come a day when the powers of this world wont allow it, as im sure those who walk with God can sense.
When Jesus himself walked the earth people scorned him, in spite of all the supernatural things he did, so dont expect these who trust in lying words to believe you.
We are supposed to help win people for Gods kingdom, not save the world. God has already doomed this world along with those who love it and reject God. God wont ask us to do anything we cant do, thus, he does not require us to have a perfect life from beginning to end, he also does not want us to even attempt to save the world.
Remember, even when Jesus was crucified, he asked God to forgive those who crucified him, because Jesus was sent to earth to die for us sinners, because God loves us, and wants us to live free, not enslaved to sin and all its forms. We should never let unbelievers get us down, living a chrisitian life is not easy, and its not supposed to be, not with sin surrounding us, but be glad that god forgivenss and love is forever, and even when we fail him, he still loves us.
So just keep God at the center of your lives, none of us are perfect, we will all fail, and we all require Gods mercy and love, but we must genuinely ask for it, he will always help those who ask, but you must ask because he gave us freedom to make up our own minds. Keep you heads up people and nevery cease in your prayers!!!

God gave us all a choice, even angels have a choice, no none will be forced to accept Christ. But the penalties for no doing so are very clear, your fate will be the same as those who you worship. Angels can see God and fellowship with Him. Angles dont need faith to believe in God, they can talk to Him face to face. So when angels choose to disobey God, as some do because God gives them and us freedom, they dont get a second chance, that includes satan, but we do. Faith in God does not come from us, it is a gift from God that we must ask for. Without it, no one will ever know God, but if you want it, He will give it to you.
Sin is pleasurable, this already speaks to the sickness of the human race, as we can get pleasure from sin, but this is why we need to ask God for help, we cant give these things up on our own. we are slaves to them. but if we do ask, he will free us from them, no matter what it is.
No amount of political positioning or earthly wisdom will change what he expects of us. The courts of this world can make anything legal or illegal, that doesnt change Gods word.

…subvert your pride for just a moment, be humble, allow God access to your life for, listen to a chrsitian radio station for a bit, actually find out about something before you comment on it.

Teh Man, travy was not converting you to christianity; maybe if you’ve read the first paragraph a bit more carefully. again i’ve nothing against christians, but i do think staying with the belief is superfluous. for example, the Renaissance happened exactly as a reaction to christianity. i can’t imagine what would’ve happened to culture and the arts if it didn’t. also, the entire course of history after christ has been a drive towards the realisation of human potential– democracy for example. i find the notion that “all pleasure (up to an extent) is bad” very self-flagellating and inhumane (in fact it seems almost medieval). however i do admire the devotion you guys show. the christian mythology (meaning the stories, prophets and how humans grapple with the complications of such occurences, mostly moral) is very interesting, which is why i study the bible from time to time (my fave as yet, is ecclesiastes–duh) and why the religion has gained much popularity even today. anyway, what i dislike about christians is the haughtiness and self-righteousness, which may not be apparent when they’re with other people, but among themselves it’s like a special, selfish, pride. but it may be some form of self-consolation i guess, like finding someone in a big party you’ve known in high school. and this goes beyond being christian, and that’s being human.
I just finished watching this documentary… keeping religion aside whether ur muslim, christian or jewish, from a humanitarian point of view what’s being done with these kids is a crime against humanity. It’s pure brainwashing, they are angering the kids agaisnt every1 that is a none-jesus beleiver, isn’t that moraly wrong to all you evangilists out there? You saw how that little girl made fun of other sects of christians at the way they attend their churches, why the racism, why the ethnocentricity? Why condemn muslims with extremism if in your own US lands exsists a christian “taliban”. These kids have the right to be given choices, they deserve to get direction from many perspectives in life, build their minds on free thinking but noo.. evangelism is just the main reason why US politics is what it is now, carving into people minds that liberalism is dead and conservatives just rule the states. My opinion: fuck all tradionalists out there.
On another note, Pastor Ted Haggard is a close minded asshole that would never accept another man’s opinion or even think outside the box, just another religious looney.

Let the kids choose what they want. Why the fear of having choices?
The fear of choices is inherent to every religion because they are designed to make you accept that only a particular belief system is right. Therefore there is no room for compromise if you’re a true believer that sticks to the holy scripture and what your priests are teling you, regardless whether you believe in Allah, God or something else. Now i know some people may say that we live in an age of tolerance and that their own beliefs do not make them fanatics – but remember that each and every one of major religions in the world today were designed centuries ago, at a time when religious tolerance was science fiction and where dying for God was an everyday thing. So if you really want to stick with whatever your religion professes the way you are supposed to, you should in fact be a raving lunatic. The fact that most normal people simply choose to ignore the bits that belong to the middle ages (while still claiming that they are believers) doesn’t mean that religion has evolved. It simply means that people today are more cynical.
I’ve seen the documentary yesterday and I can say it wasn’t as bad as I expected. As a film it has a much slower pace and the fragments that are stitched together seem as if they were torn out a much larger context, making the film seem as if the filmmakers had an agenda of proving that something horrible is happening with America’s future. As far as the kids and their fanatic parents are concerned – there’ll be many more haters of America after this film, because who can really do business with a country that has 80 million people who think evolution is a lie or that babbling jibberish and group crying on weekends gets them closer to god? It’s only a question of time when those camo-painted boys will pick up real weapons instead of sticks and start shooting people that they think are sick.
I have to say that in the end I did manage to find one thing I could agree with that nutcase Becky on – equality is really going to bury America because these people are abusing their religious rights and quite consciously building a bomb that will explode from within America in 10-15 years’ time.
What’s probably the most chilling part for me is that I’ve already seen this before. I’ve already seen paranoid elements of society simply shutting themselves off and raising their children to think they are surrounded by sick people. In 1991 in Croatia this led to neighbors turning against neighbors literally overnight. People who knew each other since elementary school started slaying each other’s families over nothing. I’d be very afraid if people like the ones shown in the film were my next door neighbors.

I do agree with your agreement on Becky’s opinion, what fascinated me in the film was her reaction when she was watching the video take, of the children placing “Life” stickers on their mouths, while she sat on her couch. She was frightened, she knows that if the future of America is to be lead by such generations there would be a devestating crusade-to-be.
Honestly speaking, religious extremism has been spreading greatly in the world, we are observing two poles growing in anger and hate towards each other. I do not see such extremism where i live in Dubai (”Arabia” for all the ignorant americans out there) but I so know that in Saudi Arabia children are taught that all non-muslim religion followers do end up in hell eventually, and they just ignite that flame with hate and hate. It’s no surprise that these evangelicans want to raise their children in such manner, that is, in their point of view, to protect their futures and to give back america to “christ”. A religious war has been hapenning before our eyes for the past 15 years and will climate to a severe point within the next 20 to 30 years. It’s the crusades all over again.

Kevin, God is not a God of war. Christians shouldn’t be rivals of anyone. If they are, they don’t know the meaning of being a Christian. Christianity is not about being a part of a group called “christians”, but it’s about honoring God. God will never use evil, Lucifer does.
@Ferdi God’s definition of what’s evil and what’s good does not work with everyone. The way christianity works is entrapping your thoughts and placing four solid walls around your mind. If that’s the case, how could one know what’s evil and what’s good? Follow what god wrote in the holy books? Defy science and reason? ..
