JDownloader 01.947-RLSLOG

RLSLOG is a site focused on Scene releases. Free applications, movies or tv shows are not released in the scene, but here is an app that many of you are sure to find useful. This is NOT a paid review, JDownloader is open source and completely free of charge, and this article is an attempt to bring some more light to this type of work.

JDownloader is an open source, platform independent download manager written completely in Java (Sun JSE 1.5 or higher required). With 1-Click-Hosters like Rapidshare or Megaupload increasingly assuming the role torrents once had for the sharing of large files and those in turn getting larger with the proliferation of broadband internet access and higher density storage mediums, users are forced to handle growing amounts of links to complete the download of their desired file.

JDownloader is a mature project for the user who favours a fire-and-forget approach when dealing with large amounts of links hosted on 1-Click-Hosters, regardless of whether one owns a paid account and simply wishes a list of links to be downloaded or wants to circumvent the forced waiting times and captcha prompts free users have to put up with. Therefore it includes a scheduler, support to automate reconnects of approx. 1,000 different routers and the optical captcha recognition is constantly being improved to deal with even the most advanced anti-bot-measures without user input. So far the JDownloader development team has written plugins for about 45 hosters and over 100 link encryption sites. Further plugins can be written easily should important hosters have been overlooked. Support for the most common files containers and an automatic extractor for rar archives makes the use of JDownloader even more comfortable.

Should problems arise, an english support forum and chat offers help 24/7.

i dont understand why people use file hosting website, i use two, yep, only two websites for all torrents(they are private ones) but i get full bandwidth speed with these two site, the host the files mere minutes after pre time and have never failed me!

if i am missing something please tell me!

Also, the reason to program in Java are numerous. 3 important things I can think of are:

    - Java is Platform independent. Not everyone uses Windows you know.
    - Way less development time. You say why Java when you can use c++? I say why c++ when you can use assembly.
    - Better maintainability.

Also, don’t exaggerate about the slowness of java. If it’s really slow, it’s probably got more to do with how it was programmed then the language that was used.

    Well, @13
I got a dutch ISP, which doesn’t allow torrenttraffic.
So a 1-Click Hoster is a real helping hand for me, and
    probably many more.
As for this Jdownloader, If It really is that good, they could also try to implent it in firefox, =D That would be AWSOME! So I only got to use the browser.
    Looks Promising…

@17 - CRYPLOAD doesn’t auto parse uploadjockey links like this program does.

It was also the first to defeat the RS captcha and the developers are adding more and more fielsharing hosts every update. Unfortunetly it does have a large memory footprint do to the use of java which really is crap. C++ would be more efficient but with java you can make a app like this in a matter of hours.

On the other hand, this has way more advanced features then CRYPLOAD and elephant which are both programs for newbs who just need to download files. Jdownloader is setup to be newb friendly (just need to set the download path and select the plugins for the appropriate file hosting. But also has more advanced features which are to numerous to name. If you like the advanced customization that this application allows give it a shot (be aware it eats up a decent chunk of ram due to java). If you want a newb application that will just download stuff for you try out CRYPLOAD or elephant.

This app is pretty good, really. I know of slow Java Apps, but that’s because they are poorly coded. Zend PHP Editor is written in Java, faster then DW, this app runs at full speed of my connection, 600kbps, and I used it to load 20gb’s at a time. I don’t get it, how much more stable / fast do you need it to be. I love these arguments about how slow java is. Yeah, it’s slower, but who cares, can you tell on a properly written app? No!

    Really good app.

  38. Gundato
    July 23rd, 2008 | 00:27

Aye. Bashing Java is one of those things that people who have only programmed for a short period of time tend to do.

Java will, of course, never be as efficient (at runtime) as C++. Just like C++ will, of course, never be as efficient (at runtime) as Assembly. However, the differences between the programs, when done by a competent coder, are likely to be more a result of style than the actual efficiencies of the languages.

One of the reasons that Java has such a bad name is the god awful “default gui” that people use, but also because people ignore memory management. Yes, Java can help with memory management, but only if you help it.

been using this app for couple of months now and it’s worked great for rapidshare and few other hosts, remember to apply beta usage in options to get almost daily updates.

Bad thing is it doesn’t yet support badongo.com and some other sites I frequently see links from, but nevertheless it’s a great prog!

  41. Leady
    July 23rd, 2008 | 01:11

This one works with rapidshare at least (just tried it.) Only problem is I only get 48kB/s lol. I think slowshare cap free user or something like that, not sure.

Basically, it download one rapidshare link and when it finished it goes to download the next rapidshare link that you queued up at 48kB/s.

  42. RsIsCrap
    July 23rd, 2008 | 01:24

nowadays rapidshare has no captchas or download (amount) limits, but they limit download speed to maximum of ~50kB/s

Finally, I never had luck with any of these type of programs, this one really works, enter the URLS and leave them unmonitored and it downloads them, enters the captcha and all, too bad it does not have a auto shutdown like uTorrent, but a great program none the less, thanks for posting this.

I used to use Orbit downloader (freeware) but got a lot of corrupt downloads (re-dl’ing would fix it).

I have nothing against Java except the need to install the JRE (which has security holes) and would prefer the app was in C# (since .NEt is part of Vista) or C++, but its not imp.

I have no need for Captcha parsing since I have a premium RS account. Does this app integrate into the browser (both IE and Firefox) as nicely as Orbit? Does it integrate with the FlashGot extension?

    July 23rd, 2008 | 04:05

Orbit downloader is also open source but it does the same thing much better.. it is implemented into all browsers and so works with mozilla and IE. It also can handle multiple downloads at accelerated speeds. It can qeue and it doesn’t work in java … you might wanna try it also uses less ram than anything else out there and using mozzila, flashgot and Orbit Downloader you have the perfect combination works perfect every time … try it

    I like RapGet.
I use Rapidshare and it works great with that + it has this really neat web control page that lets you add links from anywhere that has internet access. So if I see a dope release on rlslog at a friends house I can go the the website (my ip address or if your crafty use a free dynamic dns service to get a domain name) login with my username and password, add the links, and by the time I get home all the files will be done (most likely, but very much so started), ready for my usage!
Relatively small and is very fast, doesnt bog down the system at all

Since I’m one of the developers. I’m just interested in knowing why it does not work on your system.
In most cases, a firewall or Kaspersky Av is blocking or changing traffic.
You said that this is not the case, so I wonder what’s going wrong.

I can’t get it to download. Are there ports you need to open on router/firewall?

    Hi Maciavelli ,
Thanks for the feedback about the RS-MAM. I will work on the problem with the memory and I am working already in making it faster when dealing with the Database.

    Thanks, Dan2010

Just because someone studies programming doesn’t mean they know jack about computers. I took uni programming courses with people that wouldn’t know how to install windows if you asked them. On the other hand, there are people that never studied computers and know how to solve a problem better than some tech support people.

java is currently using 16 meg out of 3 gig or ram and is using %0 cpu

why all the hate for java you people need to get a grip on the reality about where modern computing really is

this program is a godsend good work so far hope it continues

@Moviefan: Then there are people like yourself, That wouldn’t know their azz from a hole in the ground. Todays programming is nothing like it use to be……. Throw away the stacks of 16kb Hdd’s and get out of the DOS world!

What the hell are you talking about? I studied modern day programming (java, object oriented etc.). I don’t even know where your DOS comment came from, but the point I was trying to make is that just because someone can write a program doesn’t mean they know how to set up a computer (in response to Bendee’s comment). I know people that have completed programming courses (and degrees) but it doesn’t mean they can get advanced programs working on their computer.
