Jar City DVDSCR XViD-ARTHOUSE

Group ARTHOUSE doesn’t work for too long but they already released many interesting movies. They specialize in independent, art movies focusing on niche audience. Their latest release called Jar City or Mýrin in original is an Icelandish crime thriller worth at least a short glance – it already managed to win 6 film awards and both critics and fans of the movie rate it really high. The audio is obviously Icelandish, but there are English subtitles included.

Two stories: the first is about a man breaking into a genetic database storing medical information on the Icelandic people. After losing his daughter to a hereditary disease, he then tries to trace his own roots. The second story is about a murder investigation of an old man that leads to unusual forensic evidence, uncovering secrets that have been kept in the genetic bloodline of the whole nation. Based on the eponymous crime novel by Arnaldur Indridason.

This movie was boooring, seriously, I fell asleep after 20 minutes. It seems that only Americans know how to make real movies now a days, as you can see in this film they just steal many ideas that have already been done here in the US for years. get your own plots, stop stealing from us in the USA.

I’m from Iceland… and honestly I think this movie sucks. Its based on a book written by one of icelands most respected authors and everyone seems to like this movie.

Icelandic movies mostly suck… except maybe a few comedies.
The language itself in movies and tv shows just ruin the fun of them…
But I do recommend you having a look.. you never know if you might like it. ;)

BTW: its Icelandic not Icelandish !

yeah, actually, Rambo and Spiderman are a hell of a lot better than this piece of feces that was passed off as a movie. And read comment 12, he proves exactly what im saying. Icelandic Movies suck 99% of the time, and they are always ripping off plots from american movies, as does this one.

Busey, you fat-assed coke-addled bricktop pizza-munching donut boy, most good US films are all bad remakes of non-US films

Hollywood films are mostly unwatchable lowest common denominator garbage for Americans with no brain cells (and btw, not all Americans are like that)

Take your America bashing elswhere, try moveon.org or rawstory.com your America hating ilk seem to love it there. Im not talking about US films that are made for the money (yeah those do suck) im talking about REAL american films that every other country steals from and passes of as their own. Come back when you know a thing or two about REAL movies, not hollywood $$ making trash, true AMERICAN MADE films.

    Excellent.
Been waiting to see this since twitchfilm.net have been reporting on it.

“A stark and elegaic piece of work the latest from Iceland’s Baltasar Kormakur is an unlikely box office hit and yet it has become precisely that. While the film has been winning acclaim and awards on the international festival circuit it has also been shattering box office records in its homeland. This is a striking argument that Icelandic audiences are more intelligent by far than their North American counterparts. Kormakur returns here to the existentialist, noir-tinted thriller territory that he last visited with his English-language feature A Little Trip To Heaven in a film that weaves a murder mystery around the unspeakable grief that comes with out-living your own child.”

Let the other kids drool over the anticipated cams of Alvin & The Chipmunks, I Am Legend or Walk Hard…

I love Icelandic theatre and cartoon dubbings, but I’m not a fan of the films. Some decent ones have come out though, especially in the last few years. This one is ok, I don’t really like crime dramas and that’s excatly what this one was, and it did it good.
