iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G OS 3

Its Official the final build for the iPhone OS 3 is out! And yes we have it here at RLSLOG. Below are links to the OS for both the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2G. I have and can confirm that the iPod Touch version works. Im pretty sure the iPhone version does too but I don’t have an iPhone so I can’t confirm…

To Upgrade using iTunes: Your iPod should show up in iTunes when plugged into your PC/Mac. Click on your iPod’s name. Press and hold SHIFT then click update, now find the OS 3 file. For the iPhone it should be “iPhone1_2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”. For the iPod Touch 2G “iPod2_1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”. Choose Open and now iTunes and your iPod/iPhone should be doing the work for you.

iPhone OS is the operating system running on the iPhone (both original and 3G models) and the iPod Touch. It is based on a variant of the same basic Mach kernel that is found in Mac OS X. iPhone OS includes the software component “Core Animation” from Mac OS X v10.5 which, together with the PowerVR MBX 3D hardware, is responsible for the interface’s smooth animations. The operating system takes up less than half a GB of the device’s total 8 GB or 16 GB storage. It is capable of supporting bundled and future applications from Apple, as well as from third-party developers. Software applications cannot be copied from Mac OS X but must be written and compiled specifically for the iPhone.

Well I upgraded my iPod from a Jailbroken 2.2.1, and I still had my music, videos and even my cracked apps(but they didn't work).

i installed the official update from itunes on my brothers iphone 3g.

id previously jailbroken his iphone and had added a ton of cracked apps. he didnt lose any of the apps and nothing was erased. well nothing in so far as id accidentally deleted everything the day i jailbroke it, so he didnt lose anything. he still has his cracked apps and all the music hed added.

just a heads up. but that was from the official update on itunes. and he didnt have to pay for it. although i believe if you do the official update and are doing it for an ipod touch, you will have to fork over 10 bucks.

if you're able to update the software through itunes it won't erase anything. if you have to "restore" the software through itunes that's when you'll lose everything you had on it.

i have a question pls help me

i bought an iphone 3g from ebay which is jailbroken .
    (it has 2.0.2 software)
i havent updated it until now thinking my at&t sim wouldnt work.

i couldnt resist my temptation to download iphone os 3.0 (i dont mind losing "cydia" application)

will my at&t sim work with iphone after i upgrade to OS 3.0?? (i've purchased this phone from ebay not official apple store)

    Please advice me

your sim card will still work.

  11. siva
    June 18th, 2009 | 03:05

thanks jay for the quick answer

i heard that these updates periodically check and remove sim cards which are not registered with the phone making the phone completely useles??

  12. jay
    June 18th, 2009 | 03:13

    no problem.

it doesnt matter that you got your phone off ebay. you have an official at&t sim card, so itll work still.

and i figure even if your phone is no longer jailbroken or what have you. give it a week or a few and therell be another program or something to jailbreak the new OS.

I upgraded my jailbroken 2.1.2 or whatever to 3.0 and I did not lose any of my cracked apps. They remain on the springboard but when launched, close.

    June 18th, 2009 | 05:16

@all of the people here having pr0bs with their cracked apps.

I'm guessing that you have to update the patch for cracked apps. MobileInstallation file ring a bell? I dunno if the patch came out yet for the 3.0 version but when it does you can re-patch to play cracked apps via SSH or from Cydia.

Quick question for those in the know – I've got a 1st gen Ipod touch running 1.1.5, do I simply install the update (OS3) as instructed above (through iTunes) and that's it?? Do I still need to 'jailbrake' my ipod or does the update take care of that?? Thanks for any info!

Since you guys are in the know – to upgrade to the new firmware, is it required to jailbreak the phone first – or are all the questions just because everyone has already?

    June 18th, 2009 | 08:59

I was under the impression that by using a 3.0 OS that had been downloaded would 'brick' your iPod, when they we're in beta you couldn't it came up with some error right after restoring to 3.0 ?

Has some kind of verification – If someone clears this up for me, and i succesfully load it on I'll post screencaps of it n stuff.

    thanks

The reason cracked apps and cydia apps don't work is the very reason we all jailbreak, they have invalid signatures. The kernel needs to be patched to allow unsigned apps which is exactly what the jailbreak does. Simple. :)

Hey guys.. I have the 1st gen Touch. I grabbed the tiny url posted by at comment 7 by Kennii, which is a link to the ipod Touch 1st gen 3.0 fw update. The problem is I am on a mac at work ( i am at work).. when you unzip it, you are supposed to get a single .ipsw file, but the mac unzips it to a folder instead of what on the mac they call a "package".. just a heads up. I don't think the file is corrupted or anything like that, but the .zip was probably made on a PC if you unzip it from the MAC side it won't give you the 1 file, but a folder with all the code and other files the installer needs to work. I am going to take that .zip file home and unzip it on my PC when I get home tonight. By the way, this firmware is not jailbroken, it is the same thing you would have to pay 10 bucks direct from apple. You just have the file locally on your computer as opposed to buying it from the apple store when you click "check for update" with out holding down the secret key, "alt" on the mac.

guys.. for those who haven't updated yet.. users with iPod Touch, G1 and G2, are getting wifi connection issues.. see ipodlounge.com for more info on the bugs people are getting.. I think I am going to wait till these issues are sorted out in what I am sure will be an iPod 3.1 update. Seems like alot of people are getting these issues.

just an update on #39, i got the downloading issue on the mac while downloading with safari.. I tried again taking the tiny URL in #7 into a download manager, I use iGetter, it downloaded just fine, and the file was never even .zipped to begin with, Safari apparently added a .zip for some reason. I am referring to the link in #7 for the iPod Touch 1G firmware.

Hi Sammo346, i had the same problem, and i solved it. U just have to do the procedure over again. means when you connect your ipod to itunes, there will be restore button, "Ctrl+click" on it and then find the file you dl-ed from here. open it and wait till it will install os3 into your ipod. hope it helps

I did the restore, and as the bar reached to nearly full, there
was a message saying that "could not connect to update server; not enough memory". How do I understand this?
