P2P user spongebob releases the iPhone OS 3 beta, this new OS includes copy and paste, and much more new improvements. Use in at your own risk and don’t forget to read the pdf file(included in the rar and below).

iPhone OS is the operating system running on the iPhone (both original and 3G models) and the iPod Touch. It is based on a variant of the same basic Mach kernel that is found in Mac OS X. iPhone OS includes the software component “Core Animation” from Mac OS X v10.5 which, together with the PowerVR MBX 3D hardware, is responsible for the interface’s smooth animations. The operating system takes up less than half a GB of the device’s total 8 GB or 16 GB storage.[58] It is capable of supporting bundled and future applications from Apple, as well as from third-party developers. Software applications cannot be copied from Mac OS X but must be written and compiled specifically for the iPhone.

Like the iPod, the iPhone is managed with iTunes version 7.3 or later, which is compatible with Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later, and 32-bit or 64-bit Windows XP or Vista.[59] The release of iTunes 7.6 expanded this support to include 64-bit versions of XP and Vista,[60] and a workaround has been discovered for previous 64-bit Windows operating systems.[61] Apple provides free updates to the iPhone’s operating system through iTunes, in a similar fashion to the way that iPods are updated.[58] Security patches, as well as new and improved features, are released in this fashion.[62] For example, iPhone 3G users initially experienced dropped calls until an update was issued.

    i was going to sign up to the apple development program and start developing apps for the iphone platform, turned out that the SDK was only compatible with macs and i have windows systems, was kinda gutted about not being able to test the beta too, this sounds pretyy interesting though, going to have a read of the PDF now.

    Ok, here is the important part from the PDF.

    "Updating devices to iPhone OS 3.0 beta software. By installing iPhone OS 3.0
    beta software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently
    “locked” into testing mode and cannot be restored to earlier versions of iPhone
    OS."

    so, i guess if all goes tits up and the beta doesnt work on your iPhone, your stuck with the beta untill summer 2009 when it officially releases. Which kinda makes this release pretty usless unless you have a spare iPhone layin around doing nothing.

    I can register your UUID so the beta works

    Just send $9 to tcoiphone@gmail.com using paypal with your iphone UUID

    on a mac you can goto Applications/Utilities/System Profile

    Then goto Hardware > USB and select the iPhone and copy n paste the serial into the email.

    I can provide as much proof as you want. ;)

    This will only work on your device if your UDID is in the system. If you have installed the beta in iTunes and you are stuck, you will need the UDID to be put into the system, and then you have to restore the device using the 3.0 beta ispw.

    a trust chronic dev rather you on this and any other iphone/ipod matter…

    "Note on downgrading: I have not done any testing myself, but from experience I know they cannot permanently disable you from downgrading. If you downgrade iTunes, and do a DFU restore with the downgraded iTunes, then it will let you go back to 2.x"
