iPhone 2.0 with 3G debuts in May
A Bank of America analyst is predicting that the 3G iPhone will be a reality by the summer, according to reports. In a research note issued last Friday, B of A’s Scott Craig said that he is also forecasting that Apple will produce as many as 8 million of the 3G iPhones in the third quarter. Apple’s current iPhone model operates on AT&T’s 2.5G network, and many analysts have speculated that a faster version was in the works for this year. “Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after an initial small build in May,” Craig said, according to Reuters. That small build predicts will be about 3 million 3G iPhones, to be followed by the 8 million later in the year.
Analysts have speculated that Apple would bring the faster iPhone to market around the time of its World Wide Developer Conference, scheduled for June 9 ” 13, in San Francisco. Updated iPhone software, v 2.0, which brings new features and compatibility with Microsoft’s Exchange email platform, is expected in June, along with the final version of its software development kit (SDK). Apple released the second beta of the SDK last week. In its most recent earnings call with analysts, Apple said it expects to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008, which some analysts speculated was an optimistic number.

iPhone this, iPhone that. It’s just a gimmicky phone. It doesn’t deserve any more attention than any other phone out there. It’s touch-screen, & looks nice and this and that. So frigging what? There are any number of PDAs & smart-phones that could s**t on iPhone from a great height, and they can cost much less than Apple’s ‘Must Have’ gizmo.
Why am I ranting? Cos the post here is another example of people shooting their load & making dramatic reports over anything that Apple makes. Once you strip down the marketing, and the constant media attention, you have a very ordinary item for stupid amounts of money.

Just to get you up to speed jordansky, 3G here refers to the wireless protocol that the phone will use, which is already used in Asia particulary Japan for full mutimedia (video & audio + broadband) I think its in Europe too. I didn’t Google it.
It does not refer to 3 Gigs as I think you mistook it for, simple mistake, I think we could all do with a little less harsh comments for the ignorant. Some tings you know somethings you don’t, its life.
I personally just don’t appreciate the iPhone because of the low storage, I carry alot of my work too and from Home/Work. 8Gigs just doesn’t cut it. Haven’t checked if there are larger sizes in a while so no flames on.

Beside the facts that many things on the IPhone are not so good, there is still the innovative concept of handling via touchscreen. No other phone has that.
Plus the Internet-in-a-pocket-thought is also very tempting. The IPhone handles that nice but UMTS resp. 3G are standart for this kind of phone.
I wanted to buy one since 2007 but the many things the ver 1.0 was lacking stroke me… I mean cmon, the phone wasn’t even able to handle MMS o_O
So I’m looking forward for ver. 2.0, maybe they implement GPS as well, would be a killer argument more.

Sure, it’s a good looking device but the phone capabilites REALLY sucks feature wise.
No excuse. Even the upcoming features in this one are years old in most parts of the world.

Would much rather buy an iPod Touch. At least there they don’t try to sell it as something it’s not good at. Of course there are much better mp3-players sound-wise, but this ipod is really slick.
I’ve been using one since June 29th…probably my 8th phone and, by far, the best I’ve ever owned. While I agree that the media seems to be enamored with all things Apple, when it comes to the iPhone, there are just too many innovations that make the hype worthy. Every other phone I have picked up since owning an iPhopne seems cheezy by comparison. The major complaints I have had (lack of Flash,lack of video,no file browser,no downloading, low volume, slow internet) have either already been or are being resolved. Apple seems to do a better job of listening to the concerns of it’s iPhone customers than the other carriers (at least in the US). To call this an ordinary phone (Trell) is a bit naive and I would bet that those that make such offhand comments have never held an iPhone. The mere presence of the iPhone in the market has forced other phone manufacturers to catch up and, in the end, we will all benefit from that.
Doh! Of course, I just picked up my iPhone last month, and at the time, they didn’t think 3G would arrive until October or November!! EDGE sucks for surfing, but such is life.

Cect hve been making PDA phones way b4 Apple (and the iphone looks vry sim to the early Cect Touch Phones) the cect phones are sexier at least 75% cheaper and have way more built in (5mp cam n all).
Ive been using my Cect with windows software for near 2 yrs now and its still more advanced than most of the latest phones and it cost me £65 and their latest models still less than £80…
iphone best phone i have owned to date and it isnt that expensive maybe for the people that can not afford them but not by much my last phone cost me 340 and didnt have same space and specs

#21…the fact that Cect has named one of it’s latest phones the HiPhone kind-of makes my point don’t you think? I also think I would be hard pressed to actually lay my hands on a Cect phone before purchasing one…at least here in the states. A few months ago, the touch screen on my phone stopped working. I made a call, drove to the Apple store and was given a replacement…3 hours after the problem occurred.

Based on the vast majority of the posts on this page, the majority seem to have the same opinion. And at the very least, I can actually state why I do not like the iphone & Apple, and don’t resort to making pathetic comments about other peoples’ mothers.
Another few reasons why I hate the iPhone. Apple’s lack of customer consideration, the big tie-in to an expensive phone contract, the fact that anyone who expressed any desire to have their iPhone unlocked live in fear of having it mercilessly bricked by Apple, the complete lack of basic phone implementations such as 3G!
Now, if you can tell me why you love the iphone, we can have a civilised discussion. hell, I’ll even forgive you if you can tell me why my mother was embarassed to have given birth to me. Until then, please kindly go f**k yourself, and come back when you have evolved.

I will argue that the iPhone really is just another smartphone. Granted, it is the flagship of Apple, and it is getting a lot of attention for that, but there are better phones out there (and there have been better phones & PDAs than the iPhone long before the iPhone was released!)
The iPhone does have a lot going for it, but they are generally speaking, gimmicks. It has a great design, but it does what most mobile phones have been doing for a while now, just with a different operating system. There’s nothing remarkable about a phone with touchscreen, MP3, camera, web, wi-fi & bluetooth. the Sony Ericsson w960i, for example can also do all that. The LG viewty, and Nokia N95 have more or less similar specs.
Now, I’ve mentioned that htere are several things that bug me about the iPhone, (and there’s several things I like about the iPhone too!), but overall, I do stand by my statement that it really is ‘just another phone’! - And as ‘just another phone’, doesn’t really deserve all the media attention & hype that it has generated. I just don’t get it!
Same with the new thin macbook! OK, it’s really really thin. Great! Now do we need to see it flashed up here there & everywhere on every report linked remotely to technology saying that it is the new ‘must have’ thing, all because of one outstanding feature?
Aussie may be behind in something but they are top class when it comes to mobile phone … we have 3G here and I have wireless broadband + video + TV + phone in 1 sim card where ever there is 3G signal.
