iOS 6 Released to the Public

It’s finally here, Apple have just released iOS 6 to the public! Feel free to discuss the update and your love (Or hatred) of Apple in the comments.

iOS 6 gives you more features to make the things you do every day even better. It’s free and easy to upgrade wirelessly on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Maps:Beautifully designed from the ground up (and the sky down), Maps changes the way you see the world. Map elements are vector based, so graphics and text are incredibly detailed — even when you zoom all the way in — and panning is smooth. Tilt and rotate to view an area, and Maps keeps the names of streets and places where they belong. Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality.

Siri:With iOS 6, Siri understands more languages and works in more countries. So you can get more things done in more places around the world. Want to know the latest scores and stats for your favorite teams and players? Thanks to iOS 6, Siri knows the answers.

FB Integration: Now it’s easier than ever to interact with the world’s largest social network. And there’s no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center.

Passbook:Your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon.

Facetime over Wireless:FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be.

Compatible with: Iphone 3GS,4,4S,5, Ipod touch (4th+5th Gen), Ipad 2 and 3

And much more, update to iOS 6 today by going to Settings- General – Software Update. Or alternatively via Itunes.

Does iOS6 erase all data on the iphone/ipad, as was the case of iOS5?

Wow, so the great update is a few maps (very poor compared to Google) and a modified FaceBook app.
    Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

So as well as the “new” phone being 6 months behind others the new OS is 12 months behind as well, and people pay a premium for this, lol,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

The new App Store layout SUCKS! Maps is severely degraded. Google Maps was light years better. @ the other Matt, if you download the update from the ipod itself it DOESN’T erase your data. It appears to be a LITTLE bit quicker.

Well, I couldn’t care less… Except that Apple recognises rlslog.net as important enough to place an ad…

Yea, I agree google maps sucked, it was so slow compared to the new Apple maps, and Apple maps will just continue to improve as they get more data for it. Location services with Siri now works here in Australia, Siri was able to locate a list of anything I threw at it. There are many other changes as well that I found playing with iOS6. It feels a bit faster too. And to post# 6 – who cares if Apple are behind, at least Apples iOS works well with all their phones, go back to your Android forums and compare c.ock sizes there.

If you like your maps quick-ish and inaccurate then the new Apple app is fine. You know with it’s incorrect place names villages shown upto 30 miles wrong and hundreds of bussiness left out.

I for one wouldn’t trust this new set of maps, from which even Tom Tom (the base map provider) have distanced themselves.
