If you want a trusted XP/Vista optimizer go with Ashampoo’s WinOptimizer 5.

I always tweak both my PC’s, so Ive tried a number of these programs in the past out of curiosity. Ashampoo WO-5 is the only one I kept.

Not sure why I would need any of these. CCleaner and Defraggler does it all, and they’re freeware!

@1 - Tank, being the total n00b you quite obviously are, why don’t you go play in the kiddies sandbox where the little toddlers are and leave the grown up stuff to the grown ups.

Back OT - As per #2 post, TuneUp Utilities 2008 is all you need really. That and CCleaner and you are good to go.
Everything else are just clones in a never ending war between PC optimizers.
And where do they get off saying they can “internet speed up to 300%”?! So does that mean they are gonna make my T1 connection 300 times fast huh? LOL @ Iolo System Mechanic
    LAME!

This used to be really good, quality software but it has gone down the drain. Version 5 was really good and it went downhill with 6 and 7. I can’t say that I would recommend System Mechanic.

Have to agree with other posts. Have had nothing but problems with previous versions of this prog. And as for “Boosting” my internet connection 300%, it actually cut my 15 MB/s FIOS speed in half, and nothing short of a format & windows reinstall would fix it.

When i upgrade to 7.5.11, the program doesn’t seem to work anymore. I mean I don’t get a message saying to get a new key or anything it just doesn’t work.. I click on keys to fix certain things and nothing happens. I will have to try out the original version instead now.

Anyone know whats up with the upgrades and why it wouldn’t work?

massive bloatware. if you use a proper uninstaller (ie revo, etc), ccleaner and regularly defrag/optimize you should never need a “tune up” program.

    bloatware is bad mmmk?

Installed this crappy program w/o reading the comments and caused myself a lot of grief. Good thing I had a system restore point handy. Still, having to reinstall my AVG, etc is a pain.
    DON’T USE THIS!

I used to use system mechanic 6. But it took up 700mb hard drive space!!!!!! It also slow down my computer. compare that to tuneup, it dosnt slow your computer down and it only takes about 50mb and its 10 time better.

I hope this will help someone. :)

i think when they market these all-in-one appz, they are targeting the average joe that only gas-n-go with their computer. they dont even know what ram, cpu, pagefile, defrag etc. are. so if you look at it from that point of veiw then yes it will boost some peoples [extreme noob] computer.

i also agree that tuneup and cc are a good combo that have yet to be beat, its so simple anyone can use it[i think LOL]

I’ve posted from PC instead of Laptop Liam.

I’ve found a solution to connect with the net late at night.

Now, the only way to connect with the web, is to use steady IP :( Unfortunetly, I think it will work only at my place :(

I only use the program for optimizing, not for anti virus, despite what the rest of you say, I am very pleased with sm7. It works quite well for me. Block it from accessing the internet with your firewall.
