In Extremo - Sängerkrieg [2008]

Hi Guys! I’ve got a pretty neat release for all you Folk Metal fans out there :) It’s a very well known band in Germany and afaik they are also quite successful in other countries. Personally there was a period in which I really loved In Extremo, but I overdid it by listening too much to their albums, so I had enough of them.. ;D anyways I listened to this release and it’s definitely In Extremo style, not the old one (like on the “Verehrt und Angespien”) but pretty much In Extremo’ish :P I recommend you to get the old stuff. Enjoy and don’t forget to buy this if you like it. (Track 2, Sängerkrieg is my fav. song from this album btw.)

In Extremo” (Latin: “at the edge” or “in the extreme”) is a German folk metal band originating from Berlin. The band’s musical style combines metal with medieval traditional songs, blending the sound of the standard rock/metal instruments with historical instruments (such as the bagpipes, harp, hurdy-gurdy and shawm). Versions of well-known traditional/medieval ballads make up the main part of their repertoire, but the band has written an increasing share of original material in recent years. Their own material is written in German, whilst the traditional songs are in a variety of languages, including (but not limited to) Spanish, English, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, French, Hebrew, Gothic, Latin, Old High German, and Middle German.

These guys seriously have no idea do they when it comes to good music. Its either 16 year old ghetto wannabes or some obscure $hitty novelty metal act from Scandanavia/laplands….sick of it to be honest.

I’m with Dosh on this one, albeit perhaps subjectively: I don’t like any of the music posted and finds it merely gets in the way of better posts.

I can’t say I like most of the music posted here, but if you don’t like it just skip past it. this is RELEASE LOG, no ViDEO LOG.

    To all the people complaining,

why do you click on the music posts?
why not set up an RSS feed for just movies, or whatever it is you like?
why not stop complaning and don’t be so selfish? - other people like music, just ignore it.

We don’t complain when ‘PC Optimser’ (for example) releases get posted. I don’t care about those but I simply ignore, not even clicking on it.

    Is it that hard?

After reading the comments I get the feeling that only 16 years old $hitty spoiled kids are on this site?

Do you ALL compose music to judge this group?
Can YOU do better than this band?

Is it that hard to skip what you don’t like?
Most of the comments do not even have an argument.
Does your ego enforce to write negative comments on something that is not your taste?

ANYWAY thanks for the post. Excellent and unique music by In Extremo!

@ 46: It seems most comments centre on the increasing saturation of metal on the site. It is easy to ignore provided people feel that the range of content is balanced.

Great post, although I must agree, their older stuff is better.

  27. Runcible Man
    May 10th, 2008 | 15:11

This “music” has no redeeming value because it is simply so much loud noise without any of the recognizable traits of music such as harmony, consonance, assonance, melody, etc. The vocals are disturbingly unstructured and lack form or texture. The rhythm is poor at best and the dynamics of the sound itself, especially the pitch, are quite unmusical to say the least. Therefore, I can only conclude that this is not music.

  28. May 10th, 2008 | 15:12

so you actually listened to this specific release to conclude that?

  29. Runcible Man
    May 10th, 2008 | 15:17

Yes I did. In fact, I have even acquired one of their earlier albums, Mein Rasend Herz, which displays a similar musical ineptitude on the parts of these self-proclaimed artists, deceitful as such self-aggrandizement may be.

  30. May 10th, 2008 | 15:23

Mein Rasend Herz was the newest album before this one, so i wouldn’t count it as “older”. anyways since you listened to something of those guys and you don’t like it, i respect your opinion.

  31. Runcible Man
    May 10th, 2008 | 15:23

It pains my heart to have to hear some truly beautiful medieval ballads be butchered so heinously by people who are not just tone-deaf but also pride themselves in their obvious and wanton destruction this proud musical tradition.

  32. MeMyselfAndI
    May 10th, 2008 | 15:26

    for the interested:

this is basically a metal band with a strong medieval touch

there’s people who like it and people who don’t. as there is with any other music. it’s everyone’s right to do so. but it’s not needed to post this here. no one gives a sh!t.

  33. Runcible Man
    May 10th, 2008 | 15:34

    @32:

Ah, but I posit that you do give that excrement (or sh*t, to quote your choice of scatological terminology)! For if you didn’t, then you wouldn’t comment on the fact that there are those who dislike this and dare say so. This isn’t a “post hoc ergo propter hoc” argument, mind you, because my argument is based on causation, not the coincidental correlation that would properly make it null and void.

You know… if it wasn’t for the two blond dudes in the center of the pic, it might seem a bit more brutal.

Contemporary hair in a mideval (spelling?) style band isn’t all that appealing.

Gonna give this rls to a friend, though; he likes ridiculously weird music, adn all that entails.

    May 10th, 2008 | 16:41

    @36:

Your hostility is not welcome here and you have just given further credence to my theory that people who like this tripe are crude and vulgar. I do wish you could be a bit more civil but perhaps the cacophony you call music has turned your brains to pulp and all that is left is rage and anger.

@ Runcible Man: you might want to check out halewyn, they basicly take old ballads and record them.

as for inextremo: i saw a bunch of live shows with them. they rock, in a very specific way. so for constructive discusion i would like some suggestions of bands that go in similar direction, or make better music. mfg

funny people cant handle stuff get posted wish they dont like why not as said in earlier comments just ignore it?

Music is like night and day when it comes to taste people will always complain.

  47. rrpostal
    May 10th, 2008 | 18:21

I’m not commenting on the music because we all have different tastes (luckily), but this picture and the “lil skippy” from the previous post are absolutely hysterical. It’s why I don’t get in to music much anymore, I can’t relate to people who dress for effect and look like odd bizzaro comic book rejects who don’t know how to operate clothing. Again, I really don’t care about people’s musical tastes and I’m fine with music postings, I may even DL a few to try them out.
