I'm been a user of UltraEdit for a long time. I would've paid for it but the developer is a nerdy religious freak and it puts me off.

Anyway, UltraEdit's performance has been getting worse and worse over the years. Try sorting, for example. It either hangs or takes forever. I got so tired of it, I ended up writing me own app to do sorting.

So I was wondering if someone has found a decent replacement. Thank you guys.

I also use Notepad++ and recommend it. Its very lightweight and supports many languages.

For Java dev, Eclipse or NetBeans will do the trick.

C# or VB Visual Studio is pretty good.

In addition you could try Sharpdevelop, TextPad 5.2 or Programmer's Notepad.

    I don't recommend Dreamweaver.

    @ Alexander

"Listmate Pro" and "UltraEdit v6-7" worked the best for sorting and cleaning lists and text files.

Like all the other people above I recommend looking at the Free program Notepad++ as an alternative to UltraEdit

Used it for MANY years but stopped at version 11.
    It's slow bloatware after that.
