Huge crowds waiting for new Nintendo DSi

HUNDREDS of people queued to be among the first to buy Nintendo’s latest games console on Saturday, as the Japanese electronic giant unveiled the DSi, featuring a built-in camera and enhanced sound. Around 300 video game fans queued before opening hours at an electronics store in Tokyo’s shipping district of Yurakucho to buy the third and latest model in Nintendo’s DS line. The first shipments of the DSi sold out before lunchtime at many shops in the capital’s electronics district of Akihabara, retailers said, forcing them to place orders for more. The new console, which sells for 18,900 yen (S$264), has a similar design to its predecessor the DS Lite, but is slimmer and has a slightly larger 3.25-inch screen.

It can be used as a photo album and enables users to change the facial expressions of the people in the pictures or draw flowers or other graphics into images. The launch comes ahead of the crucial holiday season amid fears the global financial crisis is tipping Japan into a recession, where sales of consoles have been sluggish compared to the US and Europe. The DSi will be launched overseas as early as next spring, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said on Friday, adding that the company plans to introduce different coloured models alongside the current options of black and white.

I can not believe these pieces of flying dogpoo go over the counter for a mere $264,- I mean, you can harly call it a console. It is called a pocket nintendo and isn’t as innovative as the wii, all the games look ‘cartoony’ and their releases are childish. You’d better be off with a PSP, not that I’m saying you should buy either of them. Wow, you can take pictures and edit them. Waaahhh… so awsome… NOT. But everyone rocks another boat. I like them luxurious yachts, another like them wooden ‘lil sailboats. ;)

All these point updates are getting tiresome …

When will Nintendo release a “real update”?

How about a new GameBoy with a bigger, better screen!

I own a PSP and a DS – they both rock. Stop being a bunch of whiny fanboys. The PSP’s games are mostly rubbish but you can watch movies on it which is cool. The DS is just a games machine, but its games are excellent.

None of the DS flash cards work with DSi. So unless you want to actually PAY for the games, stick with your lite model.

This is stupid. New DS(DSi) but with camera and better sound? No thanks. What’s wrong with old DS?

They should merge the features of the DS and the Wii to make the Dii. I’d buy it.

A Dii would be cheaper too, probably around the $217 mark.

how many of us here actually replaced ps2 many times every time the lens fail ?

nintendo has always upgraded or just remodeled their consoles to appeal to new buyers it does not mean you have to buy it again

i have my first Phat psp, sony remodeled the psp 3 times now

nintendo also just remodeled the DS for the 3rd time

but i guess nobody noticed that sony was doing it all the time…….

this DS is only useful to people who want to buy downloadables

and may be in sote use for the pirates, once they crack open the built in SD slot !

There is nothing new or innovative about this thing. It’s way over priced. They make it sound like a big thing with hundreds of people in line. It’s sold in one store that’s why there’s a huge line. Anyway, for a small country they buy games way too much.Maybe there’s nothing else to do there?

Warning, the new DS will be dangerous for all people. It will not be able to be used for its purposes, it being that you can not stick it up your butt hole or pee on it and then clean it with your tongue. It won’t be able to be used for these purposes, for it being recalled for not functioning correctly.

My cousin works for Nintendo Japan and I was lucky to try the new DSi before everyone when I visited him two weeks ago: it is indeed sh!t, nothing special. Stick with the old version folks.
