why can they not make that with a TYTN style keyboard!!! otherwise having hsdpa and all that jazz is just useless!!

HX4700 with a more conventional 640×480 4 inch screen and 2d graphics chip has been out for years.
and the axim x50v/x51v with a 640×480 and 3d graphics chip.

Nice to finally have one that has built-in phone capabilities aswell, but it’s not gonna be enough to persuade me to ditch my hx4700 and x50v with upgraded wm6.1 os and external CF phone card.

That is a nice toy, however it’s slower then this one, and it’s got a lower res screen. The only real advantage is the 8gb memory. It doesn’t even have a keyboard ffs.

@ 30: define “slower”. there aren’t any benchmarks for hd out. besides, omnia is 2 months old and has a better processor, a way better battery life, a better build, is lighter, has more media support, …
by the way: the thumbable virtual QWERTY keyboard should be enough.
htc was lazy with the first one and now they try to keep up quickly with an upgraded touch.
both of em share a major flaw though: windows mobile.

    September 17th, 2008 | 12:57

iPhone wannabe, dupe.iphone, iphone replica, blah blah blah, people these days are so ignorant of the truth, that they only see what they WANT to see.

“OH! It was Apple who invented the Portable MP3 Player with their iPod, Sony & others are just COPYCATS! We shall be ignorant!” Sony was the first to release a portable MP3 Player my ignorant little friends.

“OH! It was Apple who invented the TOUCH SCREEN phone! Nokia & others are COPYCATS! We shall be ignorant!” Nokia was the first.

The reality of the iPhone is this, Nokia/LG/Sony-Ericsson/HTC/Palm/RIM/etc already long ago were readying Touch Screen Mobile phones, it takes time to “perfect” a device before releasing it into consumer hands. This is where companies like Nokia have the LARGEST marketshare, they WORK on their phones VERY closely, and when they deem the product perfect enough for the consumers, they release them.

What Apple did was, they also had a ‘concept’ they were trying to perfect, and rather then actually waiting to perfect it, they forcibly released it to push the remaining markets. The question many professional analysts have, is Why did they rush? The iPhone when first released, was at best, 70% finished. Hence all the downfall of missing features/components. They tried again a year later with the 3G, trying to change that 70% to 100% (in my opionion iPhone 3G reached 85% at best) however, rival companies with thousands more times experience in this industry knew that Apple couldn’t pull it off with an imperfect device. Thus now, rival companies are releasing THEIR devices that were in R&D for years more than Apple, and look, they’re becoming exactly what the iPhone should be NOW. Of course rival companies were in a way forced to compete, but hell, that’s business, an opponent appears, you don’t just sit there and watch, you pick up your weapon and fight.

Everyone was just blinded by Apple’s remarkably brave and unbelievable jump into the band wagon with a device so bold that people think its a revolution (Nokia Aeon Concept anyone?). It is, in the public’s point-of-view, but in the industry and to the knowledgeable, its not really that much of a revolution. We gave Apple a standing ovation for pure bravery, and actually releasing a device we believe to be a recognized competitor. Don’t get me wrong, we do believe that Apple did a great job, but don’t consider it the God of its Zone, because it isn’t, they didn’t create anything new, they just bolding jumped in first.

To Sum up, you people just have to have a more OPEN MIND, and notice that Apple’s rivals are now going to STOMP all over the iPhone (though I’m pretty sure that Apple will manage somehow, but they just won’t be a big company in this industry no matter what, too many rivals with more experience surround them). Here is HTC’s device that was in R&D for years. Nokia is going release it’s phone that was in R&D for years soon. RIM’s got their’s going. Just because Apple was the first (and by first means for this era of multimedia phones, they weren’t the FIRST in the world) to release the consumer product doesn’t mean they’re the ones with the initial idea and creators. I too wanted an iPhone 3G, it is a good phone, not great but good. But it doesn’t play up the game to what mobile users really want. It almost had it, but still, lots were missing, also in this market, the more control you have over your own device the more useful and fulfilling it is. But Apple doesn’t allow that, and its making it even harder for consumers to fully enjoy the iPhone. Unfortunate.

I’ve decided to take up now on this HTC Touch HD, because it has what the iPhone should’ve had and COULD have, plus HTC has years more experience than Apple in this industry. It will become the phone to use for almost anyone, few restrictions, more/better features, greater possibilities.

Just stop being so one-sided/patriotic about something without knowing the truth behind what’s happening. Stop being ignorant.

    Kuro

    @55 Kuro
Even with their phones Apple weren’t first, I had a touch screen HTC 9100 that could do everything the iPhone could but even had a keyboard, a conciderable time before it was even known Apple was gonna make their phone.
