HP Touchsmart tx2: first multi-touch tablet
Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday introduced its first consumer-oriented multi-touch tablet PC. The TouchSmart tx2 tightly integrates hardware and software to offer an interface that lets people use their fingers or a stylus for on-screen manipulation of digital entertainment. The software foundation of the tx2′s multi-touch capabilities is HP’s MediaSmart 2.0, which makes it possible to use a variety of gestures, including swipes, pinches, double-taps, and finger rotations, to manipulate content in a way that’s similar to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. In addition, HP has entered into a partnership with MTV Networks to bring video in from MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. The content is organized and automatically updated in MediaSmart.

The tx2 has a standard keyboard and a 12.1-inch screen that can be placed upright for use like a typical notebook. In addition, the screen, which has a resolution of 1,200 by 800 pixels, swivels and can be laid flat. Besides the multi-touch capabilities, the system’s stylus can be used to write or draw on the screen. The PC weighs 4.5 pounds and is available with either an Athlon X2 or Turion X2 dual-core processor from Advanced Micro Devices. The system is also available with an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics processor, up to 8 GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive. Other features include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless technology, an integrated camera and a DVD burner. The tx2 is available for pre-order from HP and is scheduled to start shipping at the end of the month. Pricing starts at $1,149.

wow looks nice, i myself have the old version of this, the TX1000, 120 HD, 4GB Ram, Nvidia 6150 (not a good card i know).
only major difference is that this is multi touch mines only single touch.
this one looks better though may upgrade in the future.

woohoo multitouch tablet pcs!
my tablet isnt even touch, have to use emi pen on it
i think ill be picking one of these up next semester
I wonder if it will be as usable as a Watcom Cintiq tablet, it would be awesome to have a more natural photoshop experience. Tempted if it is moderately good at what it’s marketed for. Dedicated video card, if it has HDMI out maybe I could have a media PC for the living room for the odd MKV file *drools*.

“first multi-touch tablet” this is wrong, the DELL XT is first multi-touch tablet.
Correct, Dell Latitude XT has been multi-touch capable for months, though it was not at time of release. Driver updates for the digitizer activated this functionality, which was built into the hardware per specification.
Well, Touch UI is nice and cool, but only benefit of it is when you use your notebook as a gps navigator.
Otherwise, if you use it for web browsing, it surely will make your arm hurt, try to keep your arm up and keep pointing the screen with your finger, I bet your arm starts to hurt after five minutes. And it’s clumsy as hellcompared to touchpad or mouse…
Why can’t they make at least a 15″ screen… who really wants a 12″ screen unless they are looking for an ultra portable which is going to weigh way less than 4.5 lbs.
Plus the resolution should be at least 1440×800 ..
I’d rather get a cheap netbook and add the touch myself..
It looks like the HP Touchsmart has beaten Windows 7 to the marketplace.
Touchscreen pornos sound like a really promising possibility.
it’s called amd not advanced micro systems
