How to tether your iPhone running OS 3.0 without jailbreaking, for free

Here is Something i am posting you might find usefull :)

Is it simple? Yes. Risky? A bit. Legal? We’ll leave that to the lawyers ’cause we know that you’re aching to give tethering a spin over your newly downloaded iPhone OS 3.0 update. We’ve seen several guides to enable tethering ever since OS 3.0 was first released into beta (and into the wilds) oh so many days ago. However, these were always carrier/country specific and required a bit more command line tampering than the common man could stomach. Now an automated solution has come to our attention that just works, is global, and doesn’t require a jailbreak. Essentially, you use your iPhone to browse to a site that you’ve never heard of (help.benm.at), download a file that promises to reconfigure your local carrier profile, and then switch on tethering as you would had you tithed a monthly tethering fee to your carrier. We’ve confirmed that it works on T-Mobile NL and on O2 UK. There’s obvious risk here so be careful and backup your iPhone first before giving this a shot. And don’t go nuts either — remember, your unlimited data plan likely contains a “fair use” clause and you can bet that carriers won’t be happy to see their bandwidth diminish without compensation. Now brace yourselves and hit the read link for the full procedure… ready, go!

    Sounds nice. Too bad the carriers might take the US approach to decrease load on the network, caps. :(

    Works fine with Swisscom in Switzerland, at least with the USB connection. The Bluetooth connection did not work.

    Funny how my carrier tells that they can not offer it yet, typical rip-off of customers.

    Can anyone confirm whether this hack removes all your MMS settings?

    All the other hacks I have tried remove your MMS settings, which is fine as you can just re-enter them all (So make a note of them)…but when you do this, tethering then vanishes as an option from the iPhone!

    Has this happened to anyone using this hack?

    I'm a little pissed off that my bill is very close $100 a month for unlimited everything, and now AT&T wants to charge for MMS for the iphone. Kinda sh!tty if you ask me.

    So if all work.. You'll be able to do what?
    Plug your iPhone via USB to your computer and
    browse the Internet from the phone
    what a stupid thing, if u have an Internet connection
    and a computer already, why do you want to
    use the little device instead of a real computer !!
    People really don't have anything better to do than geek around

    @19

    What!?

    Sooo…your clearly just thinking about your own situation!
    Take my situation, I go round peoples houses and fix their computers; many of those people don't have internet or I am there because it isn't working…So this is a blessing for me if I need to access the internet while I'm on a job!

    This is the best thing to come to the iPhone since it came out in the beginning! :D

    A – it's not for using your computers internet on your phone its the opposite, say you're out and about and need the internet on your laptop. It is quite a useful feature, especially for business users.

    @19

    Congrats, way to completely miss the point.

    This negates any need for a separate mobile broadband dongle.

    @5 Try reading the article again. It lets you use your iPhone as a modem.

    @25 – You may need to restart your Mac and then it should pick it up!

    Mine didn't so I had to create the network service myself!
    Plug in your iPhone with tethering on -> Open Network Preferences -> Click the '+' ad the bottom of the list of services -> Choose 'Ethernet' as the interface, and name it whatever you want (e.g. iPhone USB)…Ok all that, then give it a minute to pick up all the settings and then your iPhone should be glowing a nice Blue!

    If not, unplug iPhone and restart your Mac…then plug it in once rebooted and it should work!

    If not…sorry…I can't help any furthur!

    Hope this helps!
