This history channel show documents the killer flu epidemic of 1918. The disease was influenza, an infectious disease that affects multiple species. The pandemic virus spread quickly, across the world and killed hundreds of thousands. In America, this disease was called the Spanish Flu. Half a million people in the United States died after just 100 infected people arrived by boat in NY city. This doc gives a very detailed account of the influenza pandemic. In today’s time so-called superbugs are even more deadly and lethal, and spread easier due to air travel. At the end of the show, they discuss the recent pandemic scare Avian Flu, or H5N1.

That is not true. We just haven’t found the other Aztec calendars that continue past 2012 yet. Scientists are still looking, but those cute, little Aztecs were very good pack rats and hid their stuff in the jungles well.
What if the flu mutates and becomes resistant to drugs? Kind of like aids..

That is true, unfortunately, it is too expensive in this day and age to give a flu shot to every bird.

Influenza-viruses are always mutating, that’s why there’s a new flu-shot every year.
The flu-drugs (neuraminidase-inhibitors, amantidine) are not very effective, because the virus is rapidly adapting, so these drugs normally aren’t really effective once virus-replication has started on a massive scale. Taken on the onset of the infection they can help reduce the duration but that’s all you can do… There aren’t really many treatable viral diseases, the best medications exist vor labial herpes and HIV… (except all the shots which don’t really count as treating ^^)

comparing the spanish flu with H5N1 is laughable. H5N1 is just another boogeyman the pharmaceutical industry is pushing to get atronomical profits out of drugs which would never work if the virus suddenly mutated into a fully fledged human airborne virus.
