History Channel Historys Raiders Hitlers A Bomb PDTV XViD-SomeTV
This documentary gives an historical account into the secret mission of a group of Norwegian raiders set to destroy the production plant of heavy water for the Nazi’s development of an atomic bomb. At the beginning of the show it first describes the rate of development of the so-called nuclear chain reaction that could release large amounts of energy. Uranium 235, or Plutonium would work. The threat of a Nazi atomic bomb was one of the primary driving forces behind the creation of the British Tube Alloys project which would eventually lead to the Allied nuclear weapons effort: the Manhattan Project.
On the night of February 28th, 1943, a group of Norwegian raiders set out on a covert mission to sabotage the Nazi-controlled Norsk Hydro factory in Telemark, Norway. Their target – the production cells of heavy water, a vital component in the development of Hitler’s atomic bomb.
The heavy water was being produced in one of the most defended factories in Norway. Any raider who was caught would face execution. But, the raiders proceeded to blow up the production cells, destroying them completely.
The explosions were so muffled that the raiders were able to escape without firing a single shot.Their bold mission successfully set back Hitler’s atomic program by many months and allowed the Allies more time to build their own and win the race for the atomic bomb.
Without regard for their own safety, the Telemark raiders attacked and destroyed Hitler’s dream for a weapon of mass destruction in one of the most successful and brilliant raids of World War 2. They were fewer than a dozen men, but their role in the race for the atomic bomb significantly affected the outcome of the war.

lolawelly: that American movie is just what it is – a MOVIE. The Norwegian soldiers who successfully executed this operation condemns that film as it is too far from the true events, it’s simply American fiction. This heroic operation is amazing, something a Hollywood production never can render.
