Hellsongs – Hymns in the Key of 666 [Promo]//[2008]

Hi guys, this release is almost 10 weeks old but i just discovered it recently and I’d really like to share it with you. This looks like some evil bloodboiling metal, but its not. I can’t explain which genre it actually is (somewhat Soft-Rock like I think), but it sounds sweet. I uploaded my favorite song for you, to check it out (I hate the bad myspace quality) – grab it here.

I didn’t find any information about this band, so I just included the lyrics of the Megadeth song… If your a Metal-Fan who actually listens to the lyrics, this is prolly some good music to turn on, when your having some fun with your girlfriend/boyfriend :D . Oh btw. not only for Metal-Fans ;)

You take a mortal man,
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch peoples heads a’roll
A’roll…

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the Symphony …
Of Destruction

Acting like a robot
Its metal brain corrodes
You try to take its pulse
Before the head explodes
Explodes…

The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
A’warring for the heavens
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall…

I am 100% sure this sucks because of all the black sabbath songs to pic, they pic paranoid, the most overplayed song of all time.

What next, a cover of Judas Priests – You’ve Got Another Thing Comin or AC/DC’s Shook Me All Night Long?

Interesting. I downloaded it but imagine Diana Krall doing Metal. I’m not feeling it. It’s bad enough Cheryl Crowe butchered ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ so much I hate her. THAT IS A PAINFUL COVER.

As probably one of the few people who enjoy both metal AND indie/hippie music, I got a heck of a kick out of this.
Can’t wait to hear ‘run to the hills’.

    Thanks poster!

I like a lot of these songs in their original form. But I don’t like the sound of a band turning these great songs into shirt. Thanks for the review Steve :)

Now that I’ve had a chance to listen to most of it, this is now one of my current favorites. After doing some homework about the band, I realized that since I’m from the U.S., I probably wouldn’t have discovered this at all otherwise.

I wish this band did originals, their music is VERY well done.

To all the haters, grow some diversity.

Poster, if you could locate their EP from 2006, I would definitely be in your debt. These guys aren’t available in any of the places I normally look. Oh and thanks for introducing me to Scar Symmetry, too.

Ah, thanks! This is really good, Love the acoustic cover of “We’re Not Gonna Take it”, sung with female vocals…PLUS, man, I LOVE that album cover. It’s Hilarious!

Psuedo… for your information. I listen to EVERYTHING except Death Metal, Techno and Country. When you can list the things you do not like to listen to in such short form then I will respect your comment. Try listening to Punk does Crunk, Bluegrass bands playing Greenday. Goth bands playing Prince, and hell … Pat Boone doing metal. I found those a lot more interesting and most entertaining.

The group Hellsong would be great doing their own thing or even covering metal ballads… but not hard core songs like the ones on this album. I’d rate this album 5/10 at best.

    June 15th, 2008 | 05:53

No thanks. I like the original bands and songs covered, but these Dawson’s Creek versions killed it for me… just a few seconds after the woman starts singing was enough for me. What’s next… Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Carcass songs covered by the Vienna Boy’s Choir?

    June 15th, 2008 | 06:42

Love it!! Make-out-music for the rockers at heart, sweet!
(oh, and “rock the night” is not a kiss cover, its a europe cover from the album the final countdown.

    June 15th, 2008 | 06:54

Lol, OMG – if ONLY the Vienna Boy’s Choir would release covers of Cannibal Corpse & Deicide songs , I would be all over it! What a great idea, it’s just kitschy & demented enough to work!

Nice release, i like it. Interesting like the Hayseed Dixies’s album (country cover of AC/DC songs). Sound sweet and soft ? So what ? I’m also listening to everything from jungle to hip hop, jazz, ragga, metal, experimental, and i found this one cool. Give it a try.

This band is great, even better LIVE! I had a chance to see them live when I went to celebrate my friends birthday to another town about a month ago, didn’t know anything about the band before that. They were really kind & cool, I even got a free CD (I “saved” the evening and last song by finding the peg that flew from the saddle of the acoustic guitar when the string broke) so it was a really cool experience. Tack Harriet, Johan och Kalle!

    Very, very awfull.
I think this actually made my death-punk-trash-heavy-doom-grind-hard ears bleed.
The people who made this should be killed in the most horrible way, cooked and fed to Rotting Christ.
And sheryl crow, that’s only for guys with one testicle.
If you like this crap you are a heavy metal enemy! :)

I’ll try it out, but doubt I’m gonna like it. I prefer when metal bands cover non metal songs and make them more metal.
Between the Buried and Me’s The Anatomy Of is one of the best cover albums out there imho.

  45. Hattifnatt
    June 15th, 2008 | 16:13

I usually listen indie/alternative/soft, and this sound very very good. I especially like “Seasons in the abyss”. Give it a try.

P.S. Oh, and if you like this kind of music, listen to “Psychocandy” (the first album from The Jesus and Mary Chain). You will thank me later.

  46. ZombieBunny
    June 15th, 2008 | 18:29

Well they certainly get credit for they way they decided to cover the songs. Its not that bad actually, but for some reason I get this great urge to go out and run naked in a field of flowers and hug bunnies…

  47. haggis
    June 15th, 2008 | 20:13

OK now this is just weird. This sounds like a guitarist, a pianist, and Dido took a bunch of ‘ludes, picked up a northern European accent and proceeded to cover a handful of classic metal tunes. It is a collection of great metal songs with ALL the energy literally sucked out of them. If you care to hear Maiden, Slayer, Sabbath, Megadeth, Metallica, and Twisted Sister performed in a sleepy, lackluster, adult contemporary kind of way, this one’s for you. Me, I’m open minded to Metal covers done in all kinds of styles and genres, but the one thing you must preserve is the energy of the original tune. This album would put my grandma to sleep.

  48. ringMYbell
    June 15th, 2008 | 20:47

@haggis -Shhhh, don’t let the secret out! for those of us that um, don’t like metal, this is kind of an interesting take on that genre & it’s songs. For that matter, Twisted Sister & Sabbath would probably put MY grandmother to sleep.

So whatever. Just a matter of tastes. If you don’t like it, move on.

I haven’t heard about this yet… I’ll give it a shot. But, the Vienna Boys’ Choir covering Deicide, that would be the best album ever. “Incubus fear of the sphere, angel darkness disappears, Covenant, blasphemous, open up unholiness…” yeah, that sounds like a winner :P
