Great app, not sure on the point of updating though as it appears the same ever since I first started using it.

What is the point in all the links in the comments when the article has a single direct download link? Just turns the comments into a mess…

"HDD Regenerator regenerates hard disk drives exclusively at physical level." LOL. So does that make it more or less usefull than that "PC Optimizer" app that claims to defrag your RAM? You guys do know that internet snakeoil is still internet snakeoil even if you pirate it, right?

@J3ph_42: no, you dumbass. Please don't say anything if you don't know what you are talking about. Just reading/writing the same data on a drive CAN fix it, it will trigger the harddrives error correction. So this app could work, but if you really want to fix a dead drive, get SpinRite

I recall a friend who tried spinrite on a HDD and it killed it, after that it just made clicking noises.

How could they recover ALL the bad sectors anyway?
After all, drives have a pool of unused sectors to swap out bad ones with.
So by the time you see a bad sector reported by the OS there could be many more behind the scenes, so check the SMART status of your drives from time to time.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_sector

Most propaganda says that SpinRite is top among these. I wonder if its true. Thank god I haven't had to use such tools, but I am keeping a spinrite copy on a 1,44 floppy just in case.

I have used both SpinRite and HDD Regenerator on numerous occasions. HDD Regenerator works better in my opinion than SpinRite. But commercially you do not see this program listed anywhere so SpinRite's commercialism has won out. But if your drive is physically damaged, then neither of these will fix it.
Thanks 29 for a non virus version.

cough-cough. 99% of the time, these types of utility ore completely useless, and worse, run a real risk of trashing data on a hard-drive that might be recoverable by other means.

Usually, these utilities have one very specific circumstance where they can help, but you need to be a real expert in data recovery to know when that occasion is. Of course, the promotion for these utilities are anything but honest, selling the benefits harder than a fly-by-night wild-west snake-oil salesman. One would be less dismissive if the instructions for the utility were ruthlessly honest in detailing the very rare cases when use might offer help- but then again the authors of such utilities know they would get far to few sales that way.

Look, if your hard-drive shows ANY signs of failing, stop storing important data on it, and move the important stuff to another drive. Know that hard-drive failure, whilst rare, can be sudden and catastrophic. Back up data you cannot afford to lose to DVDs or another hard-drive (using hard-drives to back up hard-drives is the sensible option of our current time).

Most simple data loss in the past occurred because of errors in the file system, but NTFS pretty much ended that issue. Now, when a problem occurs, it is likely to be much more severe, and difficult to fix. So BACK-UP YOUR GOOD STUFF!

    HDD regenerator works great.
    Spinrite sucks.
If you have bad sectors you should use the sector scan utility from the manufacturer of your HDD.

Seagate sector scan tool will repair seagate drives and the WD tool will repaire WD drives.

I wouldnt bother repairing anything that has more than 1000 bad sectors.

    Don't be dumb..

If your HDD needs this then it is damaged anyway! This is just to recover a HDD long enough to backup any data.

Hard drives can last afterwards (mine have lasted quite a while after being recovered) but they shouldn't be trusted to store anything you don't mind losing! They are basically scrap.

I've used this software successfully on 3 hard drives now and been able to recover data I couldn't otherwise have gotten back

Next they will come up with a Motherboard Re generator, which repairs blown up capacitors and chips of your motherboard!
