I love the fact that know 720p scene groups pre BD5/9 releases first, even though people still hate these releases as they have worse quality which is just retarded as you only loose ~350kbps of bitrate, which is really nothing ;) .

Quality: Great as usual; DTS audio and high bitrate all of that compatible with your Bluray player :D

“Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo” marks the triumphant return of these two hilarious, slacker anti-heroes. The movie stars John Cho as Harold and Kal Penn as Kumar, two stoners who can’t seem to get a break. Their last adventure found them traveling across country to find a White Castle hamburger in order to satisfy a weed-induced case of “the munchies.” This time, the boys get themselves in trouble trying to sneak a bong onboard a flight to Amsterdam. Now, being suspected of terrorism, they are forced to run from the law and try to find a way to prove their innocence. What follows is an irreverent and epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip around the world that is as “un-PC” as it gets.

    Because then your processor has to process just black material during playback. More heat, more electricity consumed.. And you download parts that are just black and nothing else. Much better with higher bitrate (4300 Kbit/s) on what you want to see.

    It makes no difference at all. If there was no black there it would be colors, and taking up just as much processing power. If your computer is struggling to process the color black you need a major upgrade.

    M, you don’t know what you’re talking about. At all.

    A contiguous block of black requires a negligible amount of data to store and a negligible amount of cpu/gpu time to uncompress. Also, the power increase is also negligible - 2 watts at the most I’d say. BD5/9s have to be uncropped as the BD standard specifies that only 16:9 AR resolutions can be used and like I just mentioned, you have nothing to lose by uncropping

    Why BD5? So the film may be burnt to an ordinary DVD blank. However, the DVD, when placed into a stand-alone Bluray player, or PS3 (un-modified), will produce a high-definition output to your TV, just as if you had used a Blu-ray disk.

    The DVD cannot (as strange as this may seem) be played in a stand-alone DVD player (even one with a high-definition output to support ‘up-scaling’).

    The DVD can be played in a PC DVD reader or a PC Bluray reader, if the PC has software that can play high-definition films.

    Why does the BD5 version have black borders top and bottom on the picture? Well so did the original high-definition Bluray version. Bluray, sadly, is such a crappy standard that simple things like variable picture ratios are not supported natively. Video on a PC is still light-years ahead of even the most recent domestic consumer video standard.

    Nevermind, maybe when super-high-definition is launched next year, the idiots behind the standard can finally produce a format that doesn’t require that black borders are encoded too. Blame the japanese and Philips. They dominate the creation of new video standards, but have engineers still locked into the 1970s, when the only output device was a TV, and that always had the same aspect ratio and resolution.

    Marceli, it’s not just the black bars also encoded or smaller bitrate FFS !!

    Different settings (less effective) are also used for H264 encoding compliant for “BD5″ that’s why video quality takes such a hit.

    You’re just acting like some fanboy, grow up ;)

    OK, I got a PS3, but I did not know this BD5 stuff, I guess this site IS good for educational purposes, lol!

    So I can burn it on any dvd (re-recordables to?) and just slam it in my PS3 and it will play?

    What burning program should I use, anything else I need to know prior to burning?

    The nice thing about REFiNED’s releases is they include the .bat file to convert their .mkv files to a PS3 compatible iso that fits on a DVD5.SEPTiC’s releases can also be easily converted with mkv2vob (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=131782),but because the conversion process adds a couple hundred megs,you need a DVD9.Use any burning software to burn it as a data DVD.

    Don’t know why all you tards are messing around with converting/re-encoding etc of x264 format movies. Just rename it to .mp4 and burn to a data dvd or copy to your flash drive/external HDD. PS3 and XBOX 360 read it natively so you don’t need to convert anything.
