Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard – The Dark Knight [OST]//[2008]

I am kinda surprised that nobody wrote an article about this brilliant soundtrack. So I am doing it, late but still better than not at all and btw. I cant stand these images of “Pawly Pets My Animal Hospital in Africa-SKIDROW & BACKLASH” on the main site ;)

I haven’t been to the cinema yet, but judging from several opinions like my friends’ and critics’ it must be a good movie. And this soundtrack definitely proves it!

Zimmer originally said the main Batman theme was purposely introduced at the end of Batman Begins, and would be fleshed out in the sequel as the character develops. Zimmer and Howard both realized that creating a heroic theme that a viewer could hum would ignore the complexity and darkness of the character. That the heroic theme is audible only twice, early on in the film, creates what Zimmer described as a “red herring”, a kind of musical foreshadowing.

Their nine-minute suite for the Joker is based around two notes. Zimmer compares its style to the band Kraftwerk, who come from his native Germany, as well as his work with bands like The Damned. When Ledger died, Zimmer felt like scrapping and composing a new theme, but decided that he could not be sentimental and compromise the “evil [performance] projects”. Howard composed Dent’s “elegant and beautiful” themes, which would work as a contrast.

The track names come from lines in the film.

Whoa, dude you haven’t seen the movie yet???!!! I’m not laughing at you or anything, but you need to get your butt to a theater and check this one out!! Then you will probably edit this post and say how good the music in the movie really is. It really stands out and brings the movie together.

Oh, and the reason it is being posted so long after it on public trackers is because this is a slow ass weekend! There’s nothing else to post!!

The OST *is* one of the definite reasons to go and see the film on the big screens and boomboxes.
Most of the time it was minimal, thus menacing and sparing to the viewers and that really made the difference. more of an ambiance theme than just another blockbuster superhero meme-setter… just made the deal sweeeeeter for me.
Not that I didn’t got out of the theater humming the buzz, it just never left me ;-)
Both the composers have done wonderful job, dammmm i wish it was Clint Mansell’s score, but who knows? next movie?

The Batman theme can be heard from 2:12 to 3:30 in track #5 (Like a Dog Chasing Cars). There’s some bit of it in the last track also.

    Epic theme.

This ost looks worth a D/L seen this movie at the cinema today and was disappointed it drags on too long and Heath Ledger wasn’t really that great. Johnny Depp would have been a better choice as the Joker.

Woo.. got this given to me a prescreen to batman. Was pretty awesome. Pre-screens free from myspace are awesome. Plus you almost always get freebies like this. We also got a “gotham times” newspaper.. only handed out at these screenings. Was good as.
