Hannah Takes The Stairs LIMITED DVDRip XviD-BeStDivX

It’s best to say this straight off: this movie is not for everyone. It is a low budget film (not necessarily bad) acted out with no script. Yes, that’s right. The actors are improvising as the camera is rolling. The idea is definitely innovative, but I would prefer to watch a group of really talented actors try to pull off such a feat instead of a bunch of weirdos, as evident in the picture. Ratings are divided and I’m sure some of you will enjoy the experiment while others wished they’d seen the trailer first.

Synopsis: Over the course of one hot post-graduate summer, Hannah (Greta Gerwig), falls precariously in and out of love. A breaker of hearts and chronically dissatisfied she finds herself drifting away from her newly unemployed boyfriend (Mark Duplass, THE PUFFY CHAIR) and drawn to two of her co-workers, Matt (Kent Osborne) and Paul (Andrew Bujalski, MUTUAL APPRECIATION). Conceived without a traditional script, this triumph of improvisional acting was born from intimate collaboration between director Joe Swanberg, and his cast, which is made up of some of todays most important up and coming independent filmmakers.

Isn’t this style of filming called ‘Dogme’?

Used by the Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg

No. That has different requirements, but does work with a script.
Improvational theatre is only fun for the actors. I don’t like this development and especially not when seeing it crossover into movies. Pass.

there is nothing in the dogme rules that prohibits scripts. in fact the only dogme-related film i know that had a largely improvised script is korine’s julien donkeyboy, which isnt even an official dogme film.

swanberg, and more prominently, bujalski are part of what they call the ‘mumblecore’ movement (remember swanberg’s lol, posted here i think a while ago). you should check out bujalski’s funny haha (color) and mutual appreciation (b&w), both landmarks of the genre. fairly well-written films, but really lo-fi. so yeah, not for everyone. (tho i cant say the same thing about swanberg for sure, the big influence on bujalski is cassavetes. this is the guy known for handheld cameras and improvisation, long long before dogme)

    @ Harl & Fy

Thanks for input and I will check out Bujalski’s ‘Funny Ha Ha’, if I can find it as well as ‘ Mutual Appreciation ‘

Yes, innovative lack of script. Nothing Jean-Luc Godard wouldn’t have tried in the hey day of the Nouvelle Vague…

I have just watched this film. The fact that there is no script isn’t noticeable. If nobody had said I would not have known.

So with thatt little gimmick out the window…..

I really enjoyed this film. Like Joe Swanbergs other films it deals with relationships between normal everyday people. Despite the lack of storyline it kept me interested the whole way through and the often non-sensical ramblings by the characters were somewhat mesmorising.

I liked this film, I could relate to it.

Anyone else who liked it I suggest you watch the movie LOL.

    This movie is MUMBLECORE.

Not as dogmatic as Dogme95 — indeed, not dogmatic in the least. The only requirement is that people mumble and that the actors live in Williamsburg!

no script? what.. obviously there was a script. every movie has a script. I see nothing on the IMDB page about lacking a script.

DukeNuke if you like to watch everyday relationships why won’t you watch soap tv serials?
the movie is kinda boring and people of the movie are not really everyday people and they are just so stupid an not interesting like the whole movie.
the only thing i liked was nudity parts, because i am a naturalist hehe
