HALO 3 ready to overtake gaming world
Unless you’ve been living under a dusty ol’ Atari 2600 console, you know what happens at 12:01 a.m. this Tuesday. At more than 10,000 shops across North America, salespeople will face a late-night onslaught of twitchy-thumbed gamers for a moment of commercial frenzy – the release of Halo 3. The final instalment in the hugely successful Halo video game series launches Sept. 25 for the Xbox 360. More than 500 retailers in Canada will open at midnight for the launch of Halo 3, which already has one million preorders in North America – making it the fastest-selling preordered game in history.
IGN’s GamerMetrics analyst Nick Williams predicts Halo 3, made by Microsoft’s Bungie Studios, will sell more than 4 million copies in the U.S. alone in the next two months. This is a franchise with such tremendous buzz, consumer tech bible Wired magazine – which has Halo’s protagonist Master Chief on its cover this month – is calling it “a cultural touchstone, a Star Wars for the thumbstick generation.” For the uninitiated, Halo 3 continues Master Chief’s fight against relentless alien races bent on destruction, concluding the story arc that began with 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 3 offers new features including a four-player co-operative mode (letting gamers run through the single-player campaign with up to three friends, either on the same TV or over the Xbox Live online service); the ability to record game highlights; and new multiplayer maps.

Halo 1 was OK, Halo 2 bored my bollocks off, so I would give the overly-hyped Halo 3 a big pass. I did play them all on PC, so maybe the 1,5 year waiting period for a mediocre port did it in. Still, it just shows how spoiled we PC-gamers are. We get good games every month, while XBOX-ninnies have to wait months if not years for one release they all pounce on all at once.

please … don’t buy an xbox just for halo. I have played halo 3 and it’s very much annoying. Hardly any new gameplay compared to it’s predecessors. And an incredibly weak story that is offcourse way too heroic and predictable and too american. I’m beginning to think the bush government funded bungie to make gamers think they have to join the army since it’ll be totally awesome. It’ll be like halo 3 but then in real life. That’s how I experienced it. Anyway, I played it on normal and on heroic it’s supposed to be much more entertaining .. so we’ll see about that.

Hehe, “Halo 3 overtakes the gaming world”.. I played it 9 hours straight last night and I have to say, I am very disappointet. It is EXACTLY the same as nr. 1 and 2! Same weapons, same enemies, same sounds, same everything. Only the graphics were updated, but even those NEVER reach Gears of War niveau.
No idea what took them so long to update the graphics only.

I don’t get why halo has become such a big game really. It’s just another crappy FPS game, which ain’t really special in any sort of way other than that the story is quite poor and “geeky”. Just another game which has no feeling into it at all.
I mean what’s up with those monsters or what ever you’re killing in the game, they could be made of a 5 year old kid by the look of it.
And everytime I see theese human characeters in halo, it reminds me of Power Rangers, and that’s not a good thing.

Hold your horses little fella’, think of Eidos graphics engine. The one they use in Hitman: Blood Money, Infernal and a number of other eidos games.
It’s quite different, but at the same time really nice. I personally enjoy how they put in this “movie” type of feeling to it.

Ok, personally I agree with everybody on this topic! For the HALO fans; I love the game. It has good graphics and if you can’t see that then go and get some fuckin glasses!!! Story line is nice but they could have made more out of it. I also agree that it is not the best game out there. I.E Tom Clancy’s games, Metal Gear Solid saga’s, Unreal Tournaments and Quake games, Gears Of War, Grand Theft Auto saga’s, previous HALO’s, etc(and yes I know that some of the games I mentioned are not fps, i’m just sayin that those games were at the very top ten lists!! READ ABOUT THEM). But they are blowin up this HALO 3 game as if its gonna turn into a national holiday when it launches! With all the promotions goin on about this game, it sounds like a cult! I do have both Halo’s 1 & 2. I played them both almost everyday for about 2 months straight for each game and then got bored with them. So in conclusion I think everyone is gonna rave about this until January and then there gonna be some what bored until Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out!!!!!!!!!

For the person that said that halo 3 has the same weapons and everything as 2, that person must have played some gay European version of the game, because the real version has at least 20 more new weapons and 6 more vehicles, including Forge and instant replay. This is going to change FPS gaming, even if graphics aren’t everything… most PC-gamers only want games like Bioshock because it has fucking sweet graphics… me, personally, I enjoy multiplayer mode and shooting other people, not NPCs, but that’s imo…
I finished halo3 in two evenings without any problems, so its a very easy game, cause u just have to shoot enemies, nothing more. The Enemies dont look good, they look like made for kids or something, the weapons totally suck, i hate those plasma shit guns. Masterchief doesnt die, u have to watch the last cutscene

overall a medicore fun shooter, good for the usual retard, would give a 6.5/10. This goes for the singleplayer only. Multiplayer is solid fun. Cant complain.

Marketing is a powerfull weapon. Microsoft brings it as the new Messiah in gaming and the following is getting quite big, scary ain’t it.
1) better as an RTS as seen in Halo Wars.
2) overrated graphics considering they were announced as “groundbreaking visuals”…..maybe but not without smoking some pot.
3) sound effects are so-so but that’s probably because Halo weapons are quite pathetic both in appearance and effect.
4) Halo was/is/and forever will be a futuristic CS: “screw originality and inovation, mass player pwnage FTW”
5) in the end, the best thing about Halo….Cortana, you can’t go wrong with a virtual naked chick.

Halo is so horrible, I don’t see how such a basic shooter with a standard storyline got so much popularity. I guess as the only good multiplayer game on the XBox, and with all the XBox fanboys that can’t handle using a real system(PC) it will sell. Not like the console users have ANY chance vs mouse and keyboard, as they will be playing on the same servers.

about halo, i never played any of them, but i have UT2k4 and CS:S which are similar in some sorta way (specially UT) and i like them, but for GOD sake they are multiplayer fps, no really good story, just some weapons and a lot of people to kill online, it’s fun for a while, probably more if you have some friends playing with you, but NOT A 9.8!!! GameTrailers gave halo 3 9.5 in STORY!! i’m already seeing bungie competing with square-enix in futures rpgs… -_- … 10 in DESIGN!! halo 3 looks like halo 2.5.. it’s just halo 2 with some new shaders that didn’t exist in the time of halo 2 even the models suck (next-gen?)…
