Halo 2-Razor1911

HALO 2 is here! It comes little unexpected as a little evening surprise. And it is also good to see it’s released by Razor1911, one of the most skilled groups in the gaming scene. A quick look into the NFO tells me this is a little more complicated installation, but you shouldn’t have any difficulties like disconnecting your drives or some similar crap. The one very limiting factor is supported operating system: HALO 2 is for Windows Vista only. Only this new OS has enough potential and features for this high-demanding videogame, which is mainly for Xbox 360 of course. The size is also pretty big, filling almost one whole DVD.

The epic saga continues with “Halo 2,” the much anticipated sequel to the highly successful and critically acclaimed game “Halo: Combat Evolved.” In this sequel, the battle comes to Earth, and Master Chief, a genetically enhanced super soldier, is the only thing standing between the relentless alien Covenant and the destruction of all humankind. Pushing the Xbox hardware to its very limits, “Halo 2” will expand on everything that made the original game great, plus add a wealth of technological and gameplay advances.

Significantly improved graphics, enhanced AI, destructible and interactive environments, and an advanced real-time lighting engine are just a small part of “Halo 2’s” evolution of design and technology. Every improvement in “Halo 2 is designed to take gameplay to a new level, and in the end, to tell a better story. The closely guarded plotline of “Halo 2” will feature new vehicles, new weapons and new environments as well as new enemies, allies and surprises around every corner. Players will wield dual weapons, board opponents’ vehicles, and in multiplayer mode you can even switch sides and take the role of a Covenant Elite.

Game features:

  • Epic narrative - The saga continues with Halo 2, the international award-winning sequel to the highly successful and critically acclaimed Halo: Combat Evolved. In this sequel, the battle comes to Earth, and Master Chief, a genetically enhanced super soldier, is the only thing standing between the relentless alien Covenant and the destruction of all humankind.
  • Exciting single-player gameplay - Experience firsthand the epic struggle between Master Chief and the Covenant armada. Brandish dual-wield weapons and Covenant arms, while piloting human and non-human vehicles and aircraft to battle intelligent AI alien enemies.
  • Unmatched online gaming - Halo 2 for Windows Vista will tap into the power of Games for Windows - LIVE to deliver online matchmaking for its Gold account members. The service will enable Windows Vista gamers around the globe to connect via their PCs and play in an innovative and competitive online forum.
  • New multiplayer Map Editor - The game will also feature the all-new Map Editor, guaranteeing new fan-generated content in the future. The Halo 2 community will be able to tap their endless creative potential to develop an unlimited number of user-created multiplayer levels.
  • Never-before-seen content - Inspired by their favourite portions of the original Halo 2 for the Xbox, Hired Gun has included two new multiplayer maps, District and Uplift, which can only be found on Halo 2 for Windows Vista.
  • Complete community freedom - Halo 2 for Windows Vista offers gamers the freedom to host their own dedicated servers for maximum multiplayer action.
  • Superior presentation and cinematic excellence - Bring the vast, imaginative world of Halo 2 to life on the Windows Vista platform through higher-resolution textures and improved lighting effects. Experience the unmatched cinematic quality of Halo 2 through the power of Windows Vista.
  • Technological simplicity - Until now, Windows gamers had to install each game completely to their hard drive before playing, taking more than an hour in some cases. Halo 2 for Windows Vista utilizes new Tray and Play technology, allowing gamers to put in the game disc and be on the battlefield in minutes. The game loads as you play - just like on the Xbox 360.

Minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows Vista
  • Processor: 2 Ghz Pentium 4 class processor (or x64)
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • Hard Drive: 7 GB
  • Video Card: DX9 graphics card: WDDM driver, PS 2.0/32BPP, At least nVidia 6000 or ATI x700 or above
  • Online Multi-player: Internet connection for Games for Windows – LIVE

Installation instructions:

1. Mount ISO / Insert disc
2. Run Autorun / Startup.exe
3. Select Customize game install
4. Enter installation path (C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesHalo 2 by default)
5. Select Full install only, do not start
6. Continue / Finish installation
7. Optionally apply the update patch 1 (if you feel offended by accidental nudity :))
8. Copy the provided crack file (MF.dll) to your installation folder (the one chosen in step 4)
9. Enjoy !

anyone who says this looks better on xbox is retarded. Also anyone who is bitching about a game that only runs on vista should learn to dual boot. Idiots.

Actually i had the same view of vista as Gareth. But after using vlite on Vista x64 i am pleasently surprised of the OS! Stable and fast. Tried Vista x64 because i bought 4gigs of ram.

    Enough !!!!!

If you can’t play this game because you’re too conservative to upgrade to Vista then it’s your problem.Much like those ppl on 56k who whine that it’s slow but don’t upgrade to DSL , Cable or better.Soon you will see more and more Vista only games since DX10 is for Vista only.Tell yourself that you will eventually have to upgrade so why not now ? And if it’s because your computer is too slow to run it then get a job or something.Vista is the way of the future so stop holding technology back.

Long live to Vista !!!!!!! Death to XP !!!!!

Min req is a DX9 card…so why need Vista at all?
It has been proven in countless benchmarks and reviews that gaming performance suffers in Vista..even with the latest DX10 cards. XP is still the better OS for windows games….

I’m convinced it wasn’t done to screw people running XP. Microsoft is finally scared of Linux and is doing everything they can to exclude people who run Linux. Linux got it’s start with the computer hobby crowd…the same group who generally is into computer gaming. There are work-arounds for gaming in Linux until these Vista Only games.

“This is why people ditch PC for the consoles……”

Yeah right :) Personally, it doesn’t interest me much at all, compared to so many other PC FPS games. I don’t even think it looks good on the 360, compared to the latest and soon upcoming FPS games on the PC.

Anyway, I’m not convinced it’s done on purpose to exclude XP gamers, but could be because they’re using some new API’s only Vista supports. The “Tray and Play” API sounds suspicious. Of course, that could be backported to XP by MS, but although I don’t think they intentionally make games for Vista only (it cuts their market too), I don’t think they *care* much for it.

so much whining about not wanting to use vista, as someone said, dualboot. only n00bs sit around with One harddrive these days, even if, u can make partitions. might as well have xp, linux And vista. dont have to really use vista, u only need to use it when playing games that requires vista, aint much to bitch about, again.. n00bs

“Only this new OS has enough potential and features for this high-demanding videogame, which is mainly for Xbox 360 of course. The size is also pretty big, filling almost one whole DVD”

Dude, Martin, did you actually write that bullshit? This is a 2-and-a-half year old Xbox 1 game, and a shitty, shitty port at that. It’s ridiculously poorly programmed, and, considering that it’s an old Xbox 1 game, is really, really unreasonably demanding of hardware.

Also, this game doesn’t use DX10. It uses DX9L. Learn the difference, people. The reason MS has locked it to run on Vista only is simple: They want you to buy Vista. Clearly, this game doesn’t NEED Vista, because again, this is an old XBOX 1 GAME.

well if they think i’ll upgrade to vista for Halo2, they have another thing coming. maybe if it was a decent game like GTA4 (i know, i know but you get the point).

Down with Halo2 Down with Vista (atleast until they release service pack 1 for it)

Linux or Mac OS partitions I can understand, but making a separate partition for Vista doesn’t really make much sense when sitting under XP. Besides, I only know two games that run exclusively for Vista (not because its ‘advanced 3D capabilites’ but because both games support Games for Windows – LIVE that allows users of the currently crappy OS to play with users of perpetually shitty consoles from the same manufacturer). Shadowrun got average rating of 68% ( http://www.gamerankings.com ); Halo 2 is rated just a bit higher, around 73%. So, again, making a partition to play this crap is not worth anyone’s time.

  25. johnny
    June 9th, 2007 | 22:26

    to #15:

Why not now ? Sure, let’s go out and buy a brand new OS that came out a while ago. Everybody knows everything new comes with bugs at first. I wouldn’t waste the money, and time just to buy Vista and download all the fixes/updates.

There’s a lot more for XP currently which I want to take advantage of. Once everything moves to Vista, I’ll switch. That’ll be in a year or two.

This game won’t be successful for now [for PC] because not everyone wants to upgrade as of now. Only tech freaks who think the latest is the best, or having “nice graphics” is all that.

    June 9th, 2007 | 23:24

    Halo2? that’s an OLD Xbox1 game!
why, oh why, does it need a brand new pc to play it?
how lame are the programmers of this port??

    isn’t the old xbox a modified pentium3 with a dedicated geforce3 card???

oh, and the vista only part - only a dolt won’t realize that Microsoft, as usual, is all about the PLATFORM.
they don’t care about losing money from limiting the user base of an app - they want people to buy their OS. it’s the same thing they do ALL THE TIME. (from giving away IE for free when Netscape reigned supreme, to bundling anything they can into the OS)

MAYBE, if this was a new cutting age game, there would’ve been a reason for it to need a new Vista only feature.
    but come on.
this game was published YEARS BEFORE VISTA.

    June 10th, 2007 | 00:28

this is much worse than the Xbox version, stuff missing, and other shit, and making it only vista compatible -.- like im gonna use that shit OS for a game, if this was XP id definitely DL, i love Halo but the pc/Vista version doesnt do it justice except for Achievements….

  35. June 10th, 2007 | 00:28

I wish MS would of stayed with the Longhorn name, it would of been kickass instead of a crappy name like vista. Windows Longhorn? Sounds better right? Windows Vista? Sounds like shit!
Since this is for VISTA I am not gonna download 3 gigs again for the OS just to play Halo 2. Now if someone comes out with a Wine like thing for XP to play Vista Games then WOhoo.. til then I hope this game rots in the depths of the 14th circle of hell.

  36. GGP
    June 10th, 2007 | 00:39

All the bitches moaning about this release (& Shadowrun), piss right off. If you don’t like it, don’t get Vista and stick to wanking with a plastic bag over your head.

I have 2 HD’s, 4 partitions, 2 XP OS’s and a prestripped Vista OS designed specifically for game optimisation and my lower spec PC [Athlon XP1900+, 512MB RAM, Geforce 6200 512MB]. Basically all the other fancy shite is gone bye-bye.

I’ll be loading this up and having a go and I bet there’ll be plenty more titles released over the next year for Vista/DX10 only - so why wait?

    Halfwit fanny bastards…

as there are very many foreign customers who attend this fantastic one web sites (comprised me that they are Italian)… would be right to insert in release (especially in the section games) the languages available in every game… so as to to avoid the usual questions of the customers who ask in that language is the game… think is not one bad proposal… and not to think that it is therefore much laborious one to add these information!
    thanks to all… bye!

U guys r just a bunch of nosey whiners, of course, this might be a crappy port of an old ass xbox game and the vista exclusive blaa blaa, but have u tried it? it has amazing new features which will be the stepping stone for future pc gaming, first of all, live, pc gamers can finally get achievements and play with other pc players and xbox players, imagine the possibilites, keyboard and mouse pwn over gamepad, besides it’s the first game to incorporate tray and play like consoles, so u can start playing right away and install at any time, bout the requirements, it’s only an illusion, those high figures are just to ensure that it runs maxed out at a fluid framerate for online play. I had a friend with a weak notebook and was able to get decent framerates with Vista Lite, just get that instead, 700mb dual boot and voila, its that simple!

  44. theox2g6
    June 10th, 2007 | 02:06

contd… and 4 the record all those features need vista

  45. June 10th, 2007 | 02:30

Why hasn’t this been noted as NUKED yet? This release is nuked because it won’t install. Yes there was an unnuke but then it got nuked again because it really DOES NOT WORK.

It’s funny how all the Vista and Halo hate is filling all the comments on all the trackers and RLSLOG type blogs…

  46. June 10th, 2007 | 03:10

Just a note that I have BusDriver (the VISTA crack) running perfectly under WINE and the audio works best with the OSS setting. I would be able to write a HOW-TO guide on running the game under linux (and hacking the game, I got my bus to drift and go 99mph ) . Martin would have to say yes first since not many people here would care.

I brought Vista. And it is indeed slow. On a P4 3Ghz 2Gb RAM it is slow. Launching programs, using IE7 (thank god we have Firefox), saving attachments, working with the filesystem…plain and simply slow as hell.

I dare not try to run a game on Vista, must suck even more. Nah, XP is fast enough…I live when Vista SP2 arrives, then it may be worth working with…

I dont think you’ll get any real “SP2″ for VISTA.
They’ve said that they wont release and SP packs for VISTA since you’re getting upgrades as soon as they are released trough the Windows Update.

People should learn how to read and get their facts straight before flaming stuff.
    Vista IS better then XP.

  73. Tric
    June 10th, 2007 | 18:22

High-demanding videogame lol, this is an xbox game xD

The truth is XP could handle this easily, Microsoft simply wants to be assholes and force-promote their new OS. It doesn’t even use DirectX10! :|

The PC has way better shooters that don’t have stupid crap attached. If you don’t believe me, read the reviews. I’ve read a couple, all of them give about 7/10, which is quite mediocre.

And also, all the Vista fanatics can take a hike. It doesn’t matter whether Vista is better or XP is better, the point is forcing people to use Vista if they wanna play is total bullshit. I don’t wanna make a lenghty argument about Vista in particular, but let’s just say that there’s no point in using Vista when XP works so well and requires less system resources, and has better software and hardware compatibility.

Lastly - the game is way, way better on Xbox because of splitscreen.

I could never understand the hype about the Halo series. They really are just average sci-fi shooters, nothing more. Nothing to make them stand out like the original Half Life or Deus Ex in terms of innovation or for No One Lives Forever for campy 60’s ripoff scenario, or that of the very underrated Call of Juarez, which melds various styles with a tight, well told storyline.

    Halo is bogstandard in comparison.

“you need to have the Secondary Logon service running to install”

The hype came directly from the Xbox crowd who probably hadn’t known what the first-person shooter genre existed before the first Halo came out. The PC platform has a much richer history when it comes to FPS games, and, having played them all, I also see Halo as a very average shooter without any noticeable innovative elements in it.

This is without doubt, the worst game I have ever played, the idea/concept is brilliant, but it’s implementation by Bungie is horrendous and that’s just the gameplay, trust me if you are lucky enough to be running Vista on a decent system i.e. P4 core 2 duo 3.40 and a 8800 NVidia and at least 2 gig ram…..don’t bother! Halo 2 is ported straight from the XBox and it’s pure crap!…wait for Crysis.

To all those who want to know, multiplayer does not work. You will be asked to enter the serial number when you enter multiplayer. But singelplayer and LAN works. Sadly, there is no co-op mode.

    Finally got this working :)

If you’re using the cracked release, you have to copy mf.dll (the one from WowLoader.rar) into your system directory (\WINDOWS\System32).
    Otherwise the game won’t work.

Been playing it for a bit and must say the graphics are horrible, as are the controls.
Not at all what I had expected.
