Hackers already jailbroken iPhone 2.0

It hasn’t even been released yet, but iPhone hackers claim to have already figured out a way to jailbreak Apple’s iPhone 2.0 software. The iPhone Dev Team said yesterday it has figured out a way to hack into the iPhone’s bootloader by taking advantage of the way the iPhone authorizes code that can be written to memory. After some modifications, this apparently allows any code to be written to the iPhone, such as applications that haven’t been authorized by Apple, and it should work with any new software version Apple releases, according to the team. The team released a screenshot of what is supposedly an iPhone running external applications on the beta 2.0 software, which can be obtained by downloading the iPhone SDK. It’s hard to tell exactly which version is shown in the screenshot, although the inclusion of the App Store is a pretty big hint.

Unlike previous hacks, this one isn’t specific to the latest firmware version, it exploits the way that Apple designed the iPhone’s main bootloader. According to the iPhone Dev Team, the iPhone verifies whether or not firmware code has been signed with an RSA certificate before allowing it to be written to memory. The team has apparently figured out a way to disable that check and allow unsigned code to be written to memory. A detailed explanation of the exploit can be found here. The hacking community believes this jailbreaking method (which will also let you unlock your iPhone) can’t be fixed by Apple in a production version of the 2.0 software.

Cremo, now now, don’t be nasty. Some people just like to be ripped off by a company that releases battery lifetime specs a day after it’s gone on sale and large units have been sold. I for one enjoy being ripped off by a third rate company like Apple, therefor I always buy Apple products… or not.

i remember buying an ipod 30gigs, i dont know, 2 or 3 years ago. it had a lil nice backlight feature which was probably the best thing from all ipod functions. but apple felt like disable that for no reason. after months of hopelfull waiting for an update with that feature back on board and a few petitions singed by tens of thousends of users later, apple released another highly anticipated update just giving a sh!t about users by not enabling that feature. that was the point when i stoped looking for new updates for the ipod.

i bet all apple-fanboys have a good explanation to that supperb support ;)

Cremo… I’ve warned you already about telling the truth about Apple. If you don’t watch out Apple fanboys will come and demolish your house while ripping their hairs out and tearing their T-shirts all the while wailing about your heresy.

I own 5 PC’s 2x laptops 1 macbook pro and 1 iphone. I only bought the macbook pro, everything else i “”found” or was given.
I bought the macbook pro cause i deal with logic pro to make music and Ableton live, and, on a windows laptop, live is not as stable.
Sad to say, i can see that both systems are meant to be used for completely different tasks. But both work for what they are meant to. Apple might suck as a company, but OSX is better than windows when you get into media work, i have used Cubase since before many of you were born, but logic kicks its ass, same for protools. Now i cannot see me using a mac to browse the web, FTP, download crap, or anything else that is not media related work; they just don’t work that way. The same goes for a PC.
Now the iphone i was given as a present from a friend that did not like it; all i can say is, i don’t see the big deal with the damn thing, i use it, but i also use a motorola, a nokia, and a sony ericsson and they all do what they have to do, BE A PHONE. Nice little shiny gadget, but not that big of a deal….

Does this mean that you can use the iPhone with any iNetwork to place iCalls? Does it also let you use iText? Can you play iGames on it? And will it let you browse the iWeb on the built in iScreen? How much iMoney does it currently cost anyway?

I firmly believe that if anyone who shells out any amount of money being a buck or 500 dollars to buy a gadget, has the freaking right to what the hell he or she wants with it! Besides i dont see apple anywhere going bankrupt because of hacking so if they spend 3 bucks making the iphone and sell it for 500 , they have made their money already and good money that is!!Its mine now and ill do whatever i want with it. Thx.
