Hackers already exploiting Sony’s PlayStation Home
Already suffering through complaints of user boredom, disappointing content and outdated presentation, the PlayStation 3’s much-delayed virtual world Home has now fallen into the cross hairs of the online hacker community. More pointedly, exploits uncovered within Home’s software coding have enabled opportunistic hackers to customise the apparently bland virtual world so that it includes interactive elements not officially included by creator Sony Computer Entertainment. Specifically, one such hack allows users to watch their own movies on display screens located within the expansive three-dimensional world. It also allows for the implementation of text and music-based changes to fit the user’s personal taste, reports The Telegraph.
Not so playfully inoffensive in its delivery, another hack sees users able to download private files from the PlayStation Home servers, which includes having access to the profiles and in-world avatar representations of other users. Beyond the potentially harmless content applications associated with the security crack, the unexpected intrusion is being seen as somewhat of a worry in that it enables those ‘in-the-know’ to upload files to the Home server and also delete any files held therein. Industry concerns are now suggesting the PlayStation Home vulnerability could be utilised by cyber criminals to execute malware attacks that capable of culminating in the virtual world being forced offline completely.

I really want to be able to watch my own videos in the Theatre in Home. Watch the point of just watching trailers for games I’m never going to buy? I bought my PS3 solely as a Blu-Ray player and media streamer.
You will be able to watch your videos in home with freinds in the final release of it same goes for listening to music. It is only in beta right now.
I would also like to add that IF that is true then it would be the first time anyone found a backdoor into anything that has to do with the ps3.

I own both a PS3 and a 360 elite. From my own perspective, it would be great if Sony and Microsoft got together (I know it will never happen) and have Sony make the hardware and Microsoft handle the software end.
Our 360 gets way more use and has far more titles than PS3. The elite did RROD once but was quickly fixed under the free extended 3 year warranty, but it was still a big hassle. The PS3 is quieter and works flawlessly (so far). Although I may buy another PS3 so I can use them for bookends. LOL
I do wonder how long the DVD-9 format will allow the 360 to compete with the added space for game data on the PS3’s blu-ray disc. Time will tell.
Home is a big disappointment, mainly cause they’ve talked about it coming out since just after the launch of the PS3. Now that it is here, yawn……

I bet this “hack” just redirects request to another server? if so it’s not a hack :/ as much as editing you hosts file in windows is a “hack”. At least you can access the internet on the PS3 unlike the Xbox 360 where you only get what MS wants you to see with no web browser. How backwards is that.

cheddar, lol @ you. have you seen both specs for PS3 and 360? the xbox 360 has the better graphics processing while the ps3 has the better central processing unit. but only marginily different. The PS3 is deffinitley not 10x more powerfull at all. and for potential? PS3 has web browsing, blue ray, free online play and that about it. i dont see how not scratching disks is potential and the xbox only does it when you turn the 360 from its side upright and it actually warns you not to do i so if you do your just stupid. seen the new xbox experience? install games to the hard drive. Now the xbox is much quieter than the PS3 not to mention increased loading times. whats to say that microsoft cant develop a web browser into the dashboard? isnt this potential for the xbox? seriouly you guys dont rly compare both properly i like both the PS3 and xbox but at the moment i think xbox is slightly better. has more game releases, online play is better and also has a nice big community, and now the play games off hard drive feature. ohh yea? sony dont provide PS2 backward compatibility anymore. did at first but not anymore. you can play allmost every xbox game on the 360. achievements are a nice thing which is obvious as sony have copied with thier trophy version of achievements lol. lots of nice nifty things with the xbox. only thing people bash the xbox about is its noisy. when i play games the noise didnt even phase me. and now not at all as i play games off the HDD. And RROD was due to microsoft trying to get the console out before christmas to boost sales and rushed the manufacturing of the consoles so hardware was failing. They have started working on fixing this now which can be seen with the elite. i dont hear many people getting the RROD now and you can get it replaced anyway if you get the RROD. $100 more you say? i dont use this currency but i know its significantly more you can get a xbox for as little as £130 or if you want an elite £230 which is the best option due to a new drive, improved motherboard and bigger hardrive. The PS3 is around £300. id rather get the xbox 360, cheaper, more games, more features,etc
When i fisrt saw home for the PS3 i thought it looked realy cool but when i actualy saw it at a friends i got bored of it after 20 mins or so which my mate mentioned before we went on the PS3. PS3 has potential with its innovative CPU. it has potential for better AI and better in game enviroments such as beign able to interact with more things. enviroments which you can actualy destroy etc. As soon as games and sony take full advanatge of the PS3 i will buy one but for now i will stick to the xbox elite. and hopefully the PS3 will become cheaper -.-

Howto change posters, movies in Home !!!
First download Apache HTTP Server 2.2 Download
Then download simple dns plus (trial version) Download
Install apache server and simple dns plus (in apache if it ask a server etc just put in your ip address)
Then go to C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs
Download the files from Streetskaterfu Download and extract the c.home map here
Then open simple dns plus and click on records, and click on Quick zone wizard.
Then put in as zone name “scee-home.playstation.net” for Europe or “scea-home.playstation.net” for usa without the quotes and in web server ip your ip address for example it looks like this (this is for europe)
Then go on your PS3 to Network settings and set the dns server to manually and then put your ip adress there
Then click ok, now go in htdocs to c.home\prod\live\Screens. There are the xml files for the screens now open like CinemaChannels.xml, in that file are all the posters and movie’s you see in the theatre change like

That game was messed on every platform on release so i dont see that as being proof that the 360 is better i see it as the 360 version is hardly any different from the pc version so it had a few less bugs and was given basically the same patches.

Actually as for the cure for cancer you can load up an option on the ps3 which allows stanford University to use your processing power to find cures specifically for Cancer SO THERE you big neg nancy. to 47: i’m pretty sure pc is generally released last because it’s pirated most.
@54 Pc releases will often come last partly to to piracy but also due to multiple graphics chip sets and multiple other config issues on a pc. There is much more to ensuring a game will work on a pc than a standalone console
one thing that xbox fans boys seem to forget is they bleet on about how cheap the 360 is, but in the long run ps3 is cheaper as just to play games online with 360 you are already down 40 quid a year & ps3 well blow me it’s free straight from the box only additional cost is optional ie: add on’s for game. Also microsoft are obviously feeling threatened by the release of home as they intend to bring out their own version or similar on 360.

Is it possible, that any of you could use some punctuation? Adding a period at the end of the sentence does not make it any better. If you’re trying to come off as intelligent (both sides), then try to make an effort to portray yourself as such. BTW, not EVERY game needs to have ‘the best’ graphics. Similar works just fine. Games are about the experience, and as long as they are fun, or whatever you get out of it, who cares? Not too mention that in 5 months, the graphics will be much better anyways. All systems have their pros and cons, and the competition between the 2 or 3 will only serve to make all systems better for us, the consumers.

also cod4 and AC does not look “far superior” on a ps3….you are blatently just making that up!! show me ONE article that says that…..they look almost identicle and reviewers have all agreed.I HAVE PLAYED BOTH GAMES ON BOTH PLATFORMS ON 42″ 1080P HDTV’s and they have VERY slight variations nothing that could be considered an advantage, they both look great as a matter of fact.
the only thing ive read is that the ps3 has poor framerate issues on a lot of shared 3rd party games.(due to the difficulty devs are having currently with the ps3 hardware)
please provide links to any reviews you have read which state anything different.i have both consoles and will always check out reviews before i decide which console to buy the game for and pretty much all the 3rd party games i have i have bought for the 360…..this is not just because there is never any real difference it is also comes down to the fact that the control pad is far better for the 360 and also even Xbox Live being arguably the better service.

Specifically assassins creed cod4 and GTA4 all have stated in the reviews that they look better on the ps3. Theres 3 but look at any game released across platform Its a fact the ps3 outperforms the 360 and in the titles i have mentioned a quad core pc. mind you none of the games i have mentioned were designed for pc so in the future with games specifically designed for these quad core rigs the quality might improve.
I have seen them on a quad core pc first hand and they run better and look better on a ps3. But what ever keep giving microsoft your money cause you obviously know nothing about picture quality. Ok so since your 360 is so much better explain to me why I can run 360 games on max settings on my pc (dual core budget as heck) i.e. gears of war. but i have to have medium to low settings play stranglehold (which was designed for ps3 and tuned down for the 360)
W/e i got a system that will last me 10+ years you got one that didn’t last 10 freaking months after launch without failing drastically which most companies would have offered a total recall but since its Ms and they don’t care and know that 15 year old halo brats will dish out $300 3-4 times.

You would also go and read the reviews you asked for and i provided to see that there are professionals that state the ps3 outperforms the 360 to say it doesn’t is stupidity.
I have friends that worked( some still do and they are still receiving the same type and volume of calls since the release of the 360) for xbox when the 360 was released i know what a piece of trash they are a shame the rest of the world doesn’t get all the insider info i got.

Of course its easier to develop for PC, look how long they have been out. They have so many bugs because the hardware, and surrounding software is so diverse. Like how the Mac is more stable than PC, because they make software for particular hardware.
All i got to say is PS3 has hacked PS home beta BUT the XBOX 360 with the new Ixtreme hacked FW for the new NXE… ***BOWS*** OHYEAHH… XBOX360!!!
