Hacked version of Leopard runs on PC

The cat and mouse game between hackers and Apple takes another move, with news that Apple’s new Leopard operating system has already been successfully installed on Windows PCs. The OSx86 Scene forum has released details of how Windows users can migrate to Apple’s new OS, without investing in new hardware — even though installing Leopard on an PC may be counter to Apple’s terms and conditions. The forum is offering full instructions on how to install the system, including screenshots of the installation process.

Not all the features of Leopard function with the patch — Wi-Fi, support, for example, is reportedly inoperable. Historically, Apple’s likely next move will be to track down and act against those behind the hack. The move to make Leopard work on a PC is just the latest in Apple’s continual struggle with the hacker community. Also this weekend a crew of hackers unleased Jailbreak Me, an online service iPod touch and iPhone users can navigate to in order to break into these devices in order to install applications on them. Apple has encountered similar trials each time it releases a new version of its operating system, as PC-using hackers want the OS, but not necessarily the Mac.

Anybody knows if it slows down, or is it a fully workable replacement for windows?

Not that it’s hard…being that there is no longer any power-pc type hardware involved… You can pretty much run ***dows on a Mac as well. Not bashing the article, just saying this is common sense.

Leopard as to be patched with the kernel from the tiger cracked version, in my opinion i prefer install BSD in a windows over Mac OS X anyday, since there is some problems

Is all all the hacking and slashing required to accomplish this really worth it?

If you want to run Mac OS the best thing to do is buy a Mac. You can install windows vista or xp on it too. Plus, it’s a whole lot less stuffing around installing Windows on a Mac.

Here’s hoping someone releases a precompiled + patched ISO–I’d like to try it just for kicks, but the amount of work involved is a turnoff.

@ 7. MAXpoo Buy a mac so I can run windows and OSX? what silly logic is that? I’d rather use that money ordering a prostitute.

Question is, what does M$ think of this??

Imagine people “migrating” away from Windoze.. I mean, does it run Office and all other Win progs?

You’d think that Apple would be *happy* about this… imagine achieving what Linux is struggling to do? One wonders if Apple is silently letting this happen..?

wow LucidHarmony what a fantastic misnomer. I always come here for witty intelligent debate on the latest breaking scene news. And you never fail to offer it. Obviously everyone who owns a Mac should immediately commit suicide as you recommend. I am taking the overdose as I type. Thanks _a lot_ for the advice.

It’s interesting that for years people have claimed that apples/macs are harder to hack & crack, and what other people have been saying for years is in fact, they are not harder there is just less people who use macs so less people focus their attention & publicity on hacking them, with an increase in use we will see an increase in Hacks/Cracks, people have been saying this for years to pro macers, yet they never listened, this just proves it. I’m not mac bashing or anything, just would annoy me when people would say its “uncrackable” etc

W000W..Thats quite allota anger towards machines made of glass metal and plastic…Anyone who thinks there cool being all for one,is just someone who has been caught up in the brandedbrain stupidity they WANT out of you,and your wallet…Is there no one who can simply admit that both systems are great in some ways, and not so great in other ways…pretty much as good as it gets with anything…And i would suggest that LucidHarmony pay a lil more attention to what computers most musicians and artists use…and than say mac’s are for total morons…LOL…And im not even a mac user…Why can’t people just look at this from a happy pirate way,it would help…lol

Quester: When people said they they were talking about malicious or compromising attacks on systems that are already up and running…not just changing the kernel so it can run on PC hardware…this has nothing to do with anything you’re saying

I really love OSX and owned a Macbook Pro but sold it before the intel ones came out and right now waiting for the new version so i get me a new one but this news is not so bad.
Only problem is how compatible it is to the different configurations and all. I like Mac and OSX since i never seen a BSOD (maybe i been lucky).
Anyone who has tried this and can share some info???

    Cheers
