Group CiNEFiLE brings us two classic Japanese anime movies today. If you are an “OTAKU” (referred to people with obssesive interest in anime, manga or video games), I’m sure you will know something about “Gunbuster” & “Diebuster”. If you still have no clue, as a recommendation, just grab them and watch. You will not be disappointed.

PLOT: In the future, Earth is under attack by gigantic aliens. Noriko Takaya, daughter of a famous captain in the battle against the aliens, enlists in the military to combat the aliens, but must struggle with her memories, the pressures of training, the ridicule of her classmates, and herself to make herself ready to be a mech pilot. She is eventually partnered up with her rival/idol, and given control of one of two Gunbuster mechs, Earth’s most powerful weapon to combat the aliens. With the fate of the earth in her hands, Noriko flies off to meet her destiny…

    Most epic anime of all time. However, watching the OVAs are a much better idea then watching the movies. There’s only 6 for Gunbuster and 6 for Diebuster. They flesh out the story and character development MUCH better.

    Also, if you still want to go the movie route, ThorAnime also encloded these movies in HD, but they were using HDTV source not bluray.

    Maybe I’ll download these to see how the quality differs.

    But really, everybody should give Gunbuster a chance, imo it’s better than tengen toppa gurren lagann.

    They never actually made a movie of gunbuster or diebuster its just the ova episodes stuck together and edited to make it fit as a movie they also removed the opening and ending of each episode and the episode extras like the science lessons.

    Yeah they cut a lot out though, the movies make the story feel too rushed, and cut out lots of good parts…like the…full nudity bath scene. :3

    Well I just hope they stop misunderstanding us Otaku as “Obs essive”, instead they should know that we are just passionate for something we love, real life still comes first for us, its just like the term you call Hobbyist in english, we just really like this stuff, but not to the point that get too engrossed about it and doesn’t care for anything else. Some of Otaku are obsessive, but that doesn’t mean that all of us are like that. These negative mindset of the Otaku meaning had made us to call ourselves Akibakei in the present to distinguished between Obsessive and Passionate. How sad.

    Anyways, this title is cool and one of the classic animes, but not as much as in the series and OVAs, you should really try it out.

    if you plan to grab this movie, do NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER, grab an “SENE” release of anime, they seriously got no clue what they are doing, same filter and spech thats laws for the scene is just TERRIBLE for anime.

    You’ll see a header called “Naruto-Bleach movies” and you’ll find whichever Naruto movie you’re looking for. Dattebayo are the people who are probably the best subbers for Naruto and Bleach. They are torrents and not direct download links just to let you know.

    The 2nd half of the movie is in black & white, and the movie AR is 4:3, which you can see some of the jap characters are chopped!!

    I mean the 2nd half of GunBuster is in black & white.

    According to another release group, the 2nd part should be in 16:9, not 4:3, and of course in color.

    Only the 1st part should be in 4:3.

    This one should be nuked.

    It’s supposed to be in black and white. Trust me, it’s better that way, you’ll see.

    Also, not sure about the movie’s status, but when I got the OVAs, there were two versions of episode 6, one in 4:3, and one in 16:9. I don’t remember if there was any difference between them, other than AR, but if I remember correctly, the correct version of episode 6 was the widescreen version. So I’m pretty sure the end of Gunbuster movie should be in widescreen and black and white. It’s not a mistake, it’s the director’s decision.
