Green Day-1039-Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (Remastered)-2007-EON

Group EON earned a huge portion of respect by releasing a remastered version of Green Day’s first album 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. This is a little differet Green Day rock than you are probably used to and although marked as a big success, this album isn’t all good. However, it basically started the fame of this band you must also think we are back in 90s where it wasn’t that easy to make a good-sounding music…

When Green Day’s first album appeared, anyone predicting that fame, MTV, top-selling albums, and more would be on the horizon in the near future would have been happily patted on the head and then sent to the insane asylum. It helps to remember that Nirvana’s breakthrough was still a year away, for one thing, and, for another, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour isn’t a truly great album in the first place. It’s not bad, by any means, and quite arguably just about everything on it could be transposed with a slight aural tweak here and there to Dookie or Insomniac without anyone batting an eye.

It’s just little more than a fun punk-pop album with some entertaining metallic flash here and there, one of many such records that the late ’80s and early ’90s produced in the indie rock world. After a great start with “At the Library,” it’s quickly clear that the rest of the record is going to continue in the same vein. What’s fun is realizing how much the band already had to work with, pursuing obvious love of three-chord forebears like the Dickies and the Ramones to energetic if not revelatory ends. Billie Joe Armstrong’s balance of disaffection and nervous, goofy passion is well in place, while he’s already showing his effective, no-frills approach to chewy feedback melody.

Songs like “I Was There” and “Road to Acceptance,” not to mention the implicitly weed-celebrating “Green Day” itself, are great calling cards for later breakouts on both levels. Mike Dirnt’s no slouch himself, providing good backing vocals when needed for harmony, but oddly enough the most prominent performance throughout comes from original drummer John Kiftmeyer, who wouldn’t last through to the next album. Call it a quirk of recording, but there it is.

In all fairness THIS was one of their better albums, compared to Nimrod where everything started going downhill, and Time of Your Life became people’s prom song…

Personally, i always found this band gay. I’m talkin Elton John gay right here. This (hasbeen) band was so dickless, just like Offspring, if you had put a dress on them, they woulda been female.

Songs like Time Of Your Life worked as an anthem for all the queers, they used to play it A LOT in gay clubs.

These guys went poor overnight, and now they in they 40s tryna get some money releasing these fuckin lame-ass albums remastered. Fuckin fags if you ask me.

“you must also think we are back in 90s where it wasn’t that easy to make a good-sounding music”

I also find this a horrid horrid laugh…PLENTY better sounding music was recorded half a millenium ago,or more, without the help of digital toyz…

And unlike wifebeater up there,i don’t need to be a homophobe to try and get a point across!!!…Leave it up to a
homophobe to know what songz are “hot” in the gay barz!…LOL

#10, you like that huh? hahah:D I’m glad at least you agree.

Roar3000: dude, i gotta tell you this; the 90s – was totally gay. Gay like O-Zone.

Beverly hills 90210, New Kids On The Block, Take That… The list fuckin goes on and on. To sum it up; 90s sucked donkey cock through a gardenhose. 90s was the time of ppl wearing fuckin orange and green pants and neon shoelaces and UUUUUGh.

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And Id like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air

In west philadelfia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys said were up in no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air

(only the first three episodes of season one)

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kissin and she gave me my ticket
I put my walkman on and said I might aswell kick it

First class, yo this is bad,
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
Is this what the people of bel-air livin like,
    Hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

Wifebeater, you’re so gay that when gay ppl see you, they laff at you and call you a fag.

  22. July 31st, 2007 | 08:46

    90’s music was alright.
Yes there were some fairly awful bands out there.
But… Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Jeff Buckley, Placebo. And thats just for starters.
I’m going to laugh at the comment about music being created in the 90’s as being ‘hard’ in the way of creating something good. Voice maskings, cut copy pasting riffs, voice leveling. These days, you can’t tell if the music is real. What about Doors? or the Stones? that was real, that had balls and they didn’t need all that technology to make legendary albums.
Personally i don’t mind Green Day’s older stuff like Dookie, i spent a good ammount of time listening to it… on repeat. I’m not gay, their not gay, they’re sell outs and thats it.
And thats all i have to say :P .
