Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods-FLT

It’s been quite a while since the release of Gothic 3 but all fans of the serie can cheer again now: FAiRLiGHT released an expansion pack called Forsaken Gods few moments ago. Is this like Oblivion, or is it just as terrible?

    Also, 1st.

I’d like to know how it compares to Oblivion as well. Anyone played both and like give us the low-down?

I liked it more than oblivion. But it had major performance issues, including horrible load times. This made me stop playing. Hopefully this will run better, gonna give it a try myself.

I heard lots of really good things for gothic 2 gameplay-wise. I’ll definitely be giving this a try after exams are over.

    @6. Phoebus

Well it doesn’t help so much when at least i have heard so many bad things for Gothic 3 gameplay-wise. I doubt this expansion will change that much.

I hear this has the same performance bugs as gothic 3.Also 15-20 hours of gameplay.Never heard of it before now.Looks cool but I think I’m gonna pass on this one.

Gothic 3 is more complex than oblivion. But it is much more bug-infested. I updated it to the latest patch, and then I was able to play it on my supercomputer :) . You can easily spoil the game if you kill someone important… But it was 2-3 years ago, today’s average rig could run Gothic 3 without too much hussle, so I am downloading it.

    @ the first two people:
Gothic 1 and 2 (and NotR) are difficult to compare to Oblivion because they are too different.

Gothic 3, on the other hand, is what happens when a developer decides that imitating a popular game will make your game popular too.

Apparently, PB tried to make Gothic 3 to be similar to Oblivion and they failed miserably, the two games simply can’t be combined. The first two games were beautiful and they are among my favorites but i seriously hate 3 for what it did to the series.

Gothic died with Night of the Raven (which is awesome by the way).

Gothic 3 is a good game by itself even though the combat system sucks, it’s just a left mouse button clickfest. You might try to fool yourself by saying that there’s block, dodge, and other moves but the fact remains that you can take entire armies clicking your left mouse button only, same for spamming spells.

The game’s worth if only for the story and looks (some sceneries are really beautiful). Hopefully Spellbound will do a good job with Arcania (i seriously hope so, i can even forgive some faults because they had the decency of changing the name to the franchise).

I think i’ll play this expansion to see how the story has evolved but probably won’t spend much time in it.

this game uses the same engine as the original g3 so don’t expect too much. it should have plenty of bugs and crashes. g3 single handedly killed off the gothic franchise. it’s so full of bugs even to this day. go play g2. it’s much better than g3.

Gothic 3 is still full of bugs. Just google “gothic 3 bugs”
This stand alone addon is just the same. Comletely full of Bugs. The best test I’ve seen gave it 71/100.
But I guess you cant blame the developer this time (Trine Game Studios). Piranha bytes, the original developer of Gothic 3, made such a bad code that Trine was swimming in bugs. There wasnt nearly enough time.

    Ok, listen up.

Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods is not developed by the original Gothic developers, but by a cheap budget team in India.
Its a horrible addon, full of bugs and logical issues.

Gothic 3 itself is a decent game, while its by no means a blockbuster it sets itself apart from the usual run of the mill RPGs, and is worth playing.

Gothic 2 and its addon are a masterpiece, in many ways superior to most of the Bioware RPGs even – and that is a big achievement.
The graphics of Gothic 2 are dated though, while the gameplay is fairly modern. So if you are no graphics whore
and want a really good game – get Gothic 2 and its Addon !

(Gothic 2 was the game that inspired The Witcher, the developers are fans of the Gothic series, as well as
    of Sapkowskis books.)

I’m probably one of the few ones that actually enjoyed Gothic 3 a lot. But this is like Gothic 3 dumbed down and with all the bugs (which most were fixed by community). The quests feel stupid most of the time and dialogs are messed up.
It’s a real shame since I really liked Gothic 1, 2 (with NotR) and 3.
On the plus side they did some graphical improvements but still they feel kinda outdated.
I can only hope that Arcania is not following the stupid trend of multiplatforming and dumbing the series even more down like what happened with Elder Scrolls.

Arcania, when it comes out (probably late 2010, but they say late 2009, something I don’t believe) will blow a lot of minds. Spellbound has been working for 15 months on Gothic 4 and it already looks amazing. It probably has the best lighting I’ve seen since Crysis.

I’m only scared that maybe Spellbound are a little to ambitious with this title, the things they want to do with Gothic 4, trust me, have NEVER been done in a game, not like this anyway and surely not in such an open-world game.

horrible? it’s fukin terribel!!! the rpg athmosphere is zero.
the only thing thats good its that you are free to explore with almost no limits. oblivion is way better. the gfx it’s just average.

    November 25th, 2008 | 20:38

I like action adventure games with rpg elements and Gothic is just that, and it does that great!
Free detailed and beautiful world to explore, lots of monster to kill, loads of quests to do, crafting weapons and alchemy… and that pretty much dwarfed Oblivion in every aspect. (And it doesn’t have any g*y fairy and elven crap hehe).
The combat system is imo much better than it was in 1 and 2, though I wish shields would have actually done something.

But that was about Gothic 3 after the patches.

Gothic 3 FORSAKEN GODS is a whole different story… I’d stay clear of this one even if I were the most hardcore fan of the series (which I’m not).
AFAIK it’s only made to tie up the story between Gothic 3 and Gothic 4, nothing more.

well i played golthic and oblivion enjoyed them both ignore the guy who siad its a left click button game thats not true there are serveral combat moves you can make its def worth playing and now most of us have powerful machines we all prob can handlge gothic 3 but the prob with this add on is that its made by budget company so im kinda not gonna bother

can we have feed back on this anyone played the add on pls???

    November 26th, 2008 | 18:52

Gothic 3, has some elements better than Oblivion.

G3, is less linear. G3, offers a better RPG feel. And G3 looks better. ( but thats only because its a newer game than Oblivion and uses newer technologies… That all being said:

Oblivion was a better game. It was put together better.

But if you want an Action RPG, forget both of these and get THE WITCHER.

The Witcher has a more believable storyline than both. The combat is more real, and requires more than just left clicking all day. And the gameplay elements are fantastic.

  40. nothatbad
    November 26th, 2008 | 22:07

This game starts after Gothic 3 finished. Only played it briefly but everything looks and sounds the same as Gothic 3. It is really slow still, but feels slightly smoother to me, also the combat is roughly the same as before but seems to work a little better also, but maybe I am imagining it. In my opinion the combat system is easier to get the hang of than Gothic 1 and 2, therefore it is probably is more accessible to people who haven’t played it before.

    @53
It’s funny you say that The Witcher has more than left clicking all day when combat is all about timed clicking (which works very good here and is actually fun).

I agree that The Witcher is a better game than both of them with beautiful graphics, a good combat system, a nice story and alive characters (and the Enchanced Edition is even better with refined gameplay).

Playability even worse low FPS on quad 6600, ati 3870

  47. Rhobar
    November 27th, 2008 | 15:54

    @carry ng

Don’t use the patch on the disc, instead download the patches from jowood forums or worldofgothic they work just fine.
And the game runs just fine on Athlon64 x2 5000+ with 3gb memory and ati hd4850 (with equal nvidia it would run flawless i guess) and that’s a medium-end puter getting around 20-50 fps when maxed without AA.
