Gorgeous 70-inch TV gets perfect Wii-shaped hole

It’s Christmas morning in the Mann household in Wisconsin, USA. Santa has brought the best present of all – a rare-as-hen’s-teeth Nintendo Wii – for the children to share and enjoy. In preparation, the family has bought a whopping 70-inch rear projection TV for their front room.

Karlee Mann (14) sat by while her cousin Bryce (also 14) dominated the initial few games of Wii Sports Tennis. When Bryce finally gave in to her protests, the heady mix of frustration, adrenalin, anticipation and family rivalry proved too much. In an instant the remote slipped from her hands, the weak Gen 1 strap failed to catch the escaping projectile, and the Mann’s $4500 TV took a clean bullet to the head. Oops.

I have to agree a little bit.. Some of the Offtopic stories are just way off topic.

But keep up the good work with all the other articles! :)

I don’t get how these fools are losing control of their Wiimotes, it’s people getting far to excited and not using it properly.

I just find it funny when i read this types of reports as stupid people deserve something like this to happen.

Please… like the Wiimote would create a hole like that, maybe if shot out of cannon.

Actually a Wii can do such a thing, some of these players are veryyy energetic. People playing tennis get in the face. People playing bowling get their furniture served. You should check it out yourself. There are so many cases, its so sad.

I love how people blame the straps. :) What happens when they aren’t using the straps and they just chuck it at their screens? What then?! :-P

I have to laugh, this kind of stupidity is well deserved. It’s not hard to hold the Wiimote tight enough to stop it slipping. Hell, I don’t even bother with the strap anymore, it’s an inconvenience!

And come on, with a big TV like that, you’d think they’d take a *little* bit extra care…

  27. January 9th, 2007 | 23:28

I just came back home, when I mentioned this story to my friends they died from laughing. So I think moost Wii accidents are funny!

How can something in the OffTopic section be TOO OffTopic. You people are idiots. It is clearly headlined OffTopic, if you want it to be in any way related to Games or Torrents, there are sections for those. If he wants to post this that’s his prerogative, not yours to judge solely because you have a God damn opinion you feel like sharing. It fits perfectly well here under the OffTopic section, and WOW, it even has a little bit to do with games since the Wii is a console.

rear projector TV’s suck anyway, get an LCD TV, soooo much better :D

    January 10th, 2007 | 00:43

All you idiots bitching about this being here. Fuck you fucktards, don’t like it DON’T FUCKING READ IT.

Or better yet, ask to be a poster and post your own crap so we can bitch about it in your comments.

Can’t say I feel sorry for the people that owned the TV, if you couldn’t see that coming, you get what you deserve. It’s nature thining the heard with natural selection.

If you have a 70 inch projection tv, and buy your spaz kids a Wii, and can’t forsee that wiimote creating a new video port in the center of your screen the answer is simple.

You don’t DESERVE a 70inch tv. or a wii. I hope the kid has to pay for the tv with their own money.

These problems wouldn’t happen if they’d steered clear of the Wii in the first place.

    muhahahaha phishybongwaters!!

I like your darwin-natural-selection die motherfucker attitude. Action –> Consequence thinking RULES!

And your last line cracks me up.Fuck kids, they have to learn the hard way.

If they had a 70 inch TV, they most likely can afford another one, no harm done.

    January 10th, 2007 | 07:03

yeah, must have been an atmosphere to strike sparks after this incident. haha. kids will learn. no pain no gain. if i were daddy, there’d be a _lot_ of gain. ;)

someone should start selling wii-cages. tough wire mesh to attach in front of your multi-k tv. 900 bucks or so, you could make a fortune. =)
