Google still rules between search engines
The search engine market has still only one king: The Google. According to the latest research from Nielsen//NetRatings, around 2.67 billion searches were carried out in June using Google, giving it 49.4 per cent of all web searches carried out in the month. The figure represent year-on-year growth of 31 per cent. Yahoo came second but still has some way to go with 1.24 billion searches, or 23 per cent of the total. Yahoo’s year-on-year growth is similar to Google’s at 29 per cent. Third and fourth places were held by MSN and AOL with 10.3 per cent and 6.9 per cent respectively. Both companies notched up around three per cent year-on-year growth.
Ask.com and My Way experienced year-on-year growth of 66 per cent and 51 per cent respectively, but each accounted for only two per cent of searches. The old-school starts, very popular in 1990s like Netscape, Dogpile, iWon and EarthLink all experienced negative annual growth, clocking up around 0.5 per cent of all searches in June. There’s also another interesting result of this survey: YouTube, famous video-sharing site, is the fastest growing website at the moment, with monthly unique audience of something about 19 million people…
